The American’s have a good word for jobs.
There are chores to be done.
I like the word chores.
Today has been the day for chores.
I bought a camellia for Nu’s garden which will be sent to her lovely new home in Surrey. Sorted out my diabetes Eye test and booked the Welsh in for their Haircuts.
I picked up a coffee and porridge from McDonalds and splashed out on a cheesy bacon wrap for Roger and Mary. ( they both eat their goodies with eyes blissfully closed)
I then went to see village leaders Ian and Helen about the Flower Show only to find them out, so I did shopping, collected a prescription for Trendy Carol’s hubby, paid Anne Williams for the throws she bought me from Spain, before cleaning out a kitchen cupboard and going to Supervision in Prestatyn.
Islwyn was walking down the lane when I returned home and stopped to talk
“You’ve lost weight” he observed, adding “I’m glad, this village would be sad to lose you”
Im getting more of that sort of comment recently and will accept the sentiment behind it now with some alacrity.
“Thank You” I told him, but he was already sharing an anecdote about a family member who had his legs taken off when he was 26 stone, the moment was gone.
I picked daffs from the garden as the chill evening approached
They make the cottage cheerful
They always do.
Daffs make everything cheerful x
ReplyDeleteThat’s why they are the Welsh National flower
DeleteFarmers here have chores too. My husband and I sometimes jokingly refer to our conjugal 'duties' as our chores.
ReplyDeleteAt least you are still conjugal lol
DeleteNow I want pink flamingo measuring cups xx
ReplyDeleteSainsburys , I got them
DeleteMy garden daffs are starting to burst into flower now. I love it, they make me smile. A happy herald of Spring.
ReplyDeleteA somewhat back-handed compliment, but nice to know the village loves you! xx
He almost said he’d miss me, xx
DeleteHappy Hooker beat me to it! That is what my Mother called a "back-handed compliment". Love those Daffs - they are a happy flower. Mine are in bloom here in Georgia along with my Hyacinths.
ReplyDeleteMy mother always said my hair looked nice from the back
DeleteThat comment reminded me of years ago when I was obviously pregnant. I couldn't believe how many women felt it necessary to tell me horror stories of when they delivered their child. I couldn't get away from them fast enough. People!
ReplyDeletelol the Yorkshire people have a saying “ There’s nowt as queer as folk”
DeleteI am with Islwyn, we all want you to have in our pockets forever, well, as long as we can!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteMe above.
ReplyDeleteI, too, love daffs for their happy color and ours are in bloom now along with fading purple crocus which were beaten down by last week's torrential rain.
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy today and certainly accomplished a lot! Nu will be so delighted with the new camellia you've sent to her.
Enjoy a cozy night with the family.
Hugs!
We are all watching The Repair shop
DeleteWish we'd get some newer episodes of Repair Shop, but we get from 2018 to 2022. Sigh!
DeleteHugs!
The new series without jay blades is tighter
DeleteI only discovered a couple of years ago that daffs have a subtle scent. I have some on my kitchen table now.
ReplyDeleteI do t love the scent myself x
DeleteI hate the scent kath
DeleteYour Still Life with Flamingoes is so beautiful. You always capture the clean serenity of your home. [I would like flamingo measures, how cool!].
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to live where spring is early and to have daffys in your garden already.
I always admire how you get so much done!
PS I hope your eye appointment will include the purchase of stylish new eyeglasses, ''just for dress up'', to go w your new slim look.
lizzy
Send me your address and I will get you some
DeleteIsn't it nice for you to be so loved by your community! xo
ReplyDeleteI won’t fudge my answer I will just say how lovely
Delete"You've lost weight. Not going to drop dead right away then." Ouch and funny. I have such a hard time buying flowers for myself. Why is that?
ReplyDeletePixie when I bought my first home in 1989 I always swore to myself that I would always buy myself fresh flowers , and I always have
DeleteIt is nice to have your efforts noticed, even if in a rather disconcerting way.
ReplyDeleteThat’s Islwyn x
DeleteI think daffodils must be one of the happiest flowers of spring. That's funny you like the word chores. I often tell friends that I have errands to do. And they always joke knowing me , and ask what's Aaron's last name!
ReplyDeleteNow that did make me laugh
DeleteThat photo is stunning squire
ReplyDeleteLee
Thank u x
DeleteThe flamingos are so cheerful. Do the Welsh like getting groomed? Mine hates it.
ReplyDeleteThey are not hand stripped which can be uncomfortable
DeleteThe flamingos are fabulous, especially as a spot of pink in the photo! Like the Welsh I close my eyes while eating something yummy. And I didn't realize "chores" was an americanism. I think of them as something done around the home vs errands being things that take one out somewhere. Research needed.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Ceci
I liked this response
DeleteI had a look for the word chore.,
ReplyDeletechore (n.)
"a small job or task," especially "a piece of minor domestic work of regular or frequent recurrence," 1751, American English, variant of char, from Middle English cherre "odd job," from Old English cerr, cierr "turn, change, time, occasion, affair business." Related: Chores.
Chore, a corruption of char, is an English word, still used in many parts of England, as a char-man, a char-woman; but in America, it is perhaps confined to New England. It signifies small domestic jobs of work, and its place cannot be supplied by any other single word in the language. [Noah Webster, "Dissertations on the English Language," 1789]
Isn't language fascinating
I loved this reply thank u xxx
DeleteOh Islwyn! My response would have immediately been 'how many stone do you lose when they take your legs, I wonder?' We are finishing up winter here, and I am still wearing bulky clothing. I wonder if people will notice a weight loss when I am wearing light clothing. I'm about to pass another mile stone weight, my second. I'm kind of pleased with that.
ReplyDeleteIslwyn is a doll, he’s a constant in Trelawnyd
