Frame of Reference

In supervision I am always being reminded to see things from my clients frame of reference, ie from their unique perspective.
It’s a hard skill to develop and to learn as we all analyse and unpick people on the hoof so to speak. I’m trying to view Trump’s apparent victory from the American voters point of view.
Most want more money in their pay checks, cheaper prices in the shops and a life free of the anxiety of illegal migration
Not that much different to the aspirations of the voters in the UK Brexit vote of 2016 me thinks.

I’m sad that Trump got in again.
He’s a liar, and a buffoon.
And America wanted you

Last time Clinton did win the popular vote but, so far, Trump not only has passed the 270 electoral college threshold, but is also winning the popular vote. (51% v 47%)

    2. I guess I'm asking our overseas friends not to lump those of us in that 47% in with those who, against their own best interests, voted for him. The two parties are not the same; Trump will abandon Ukraine, the EU and your little island, and he will bury Gaza. It's going to get very bad for us in the US and for the rest of the world as well.

  4. I think that just like the UK, both the US parties have pretty much the same agenda. One of self wealth and deceit. My only hope is that Trump stops Israel murdering everyone around them. Then the world might start to gather themselves a bit. Anonymous 12:36 am. Biden has sent to billions to Ukraine. He just sent another 8 billion dollars worth of assistance in September. While the people in Western North Carolina that have suffered and lost everything from the Helene hurricane flood were given a measley $750.00 assistance per family from the government. Many are still living in tents, but yet Ukraine is so much more important than US citizens. Thanks to the Amish community from Pennsylvania, they are there building small houses for displaced and homeless. Ukraine has always had Biden by the balls. Eventually, it will all come out in the wash just how crooked Biden and the Biden family are. Think about it. He's never had a real job. He's been on the US Gov't dole since 1973 when he was elected senator at age 30. His net worth is estimated at about $10 million dollars. Not bad on a Senator's pay.

Whenever a party loses, I believe they only have the party to blame. IMO, they hung onto Biden for too long and appointed an unpopular VP who just couldn't answer the questions. She tried to distance herself from Biden and was unsuccessful.
Over half the country are not Hitler worshippers or racist. Sure some are, just as there are racist democrats. Obama never would have been elected twice if that were true and if permitted he probably would have won a 3rd term. I believe if Michelle had been the candidate the Democrats could have won. As with Brexit, one man ( be it Boris or Donald ) promises the earth to satisfy their narcissistic urge to be popular without the slightest interest or intention of making good on that promise.

Politics is power and the major parties in either country are not going to give up their tilt at that. I'm not sure about the American presidential system working in the UK though. There may be more peace than anyone anticipated. Though there is one caveat. With Biden’s open southern border, illegals from all over the world have entered the US. You would be surprised at the groups of Chinese that have entered illegally. The majority of them are military aged men. Everyone with any inkling of a brain knows that China does not just open their country’s borders and let hundreds of citizens leave out the goodness of their government’s heart. Venezuela opened their prison doors and let their worst criminals out as long as they left the country and went to the US. Our country is flooded with undocumented illegals and many of them are criminals and gang members. And yes, they are committing serious crimes. A few women and a young girl have been raped and brutally murdered by illegals that came into the country through the open border. You don’t hear a lot of this reported on the major network news. A story here or there may be reported, but not the full scale of the seriousness of what is really happening. So, we in the US will be facing some serious problems. I hope many are capable of using a weapon to protect themselves. When the shit hits the fan here in the US, who is going to come and rescue us? I’m not worried. Most Americans know how to Lock and Load, and we’ve got the Marines! And to all the haters, they can GFY!

    1. I find it so interesting that the pro-Trump commenters (with the exception of Jinxxxygirl, more power to her) post anonymously.

Don't you think most of those "military age males" are just guys looking for jobs so they can send money back home? It's been the same story for immigrants going back to Ellis Island. Why all the demonizing and paranoia?

I don't understand where this idea comes from that Democrats start wars. GHW Bush started Iraq 1, GW Bush started Afghanistan and Iraq 2 -- both Republicans. Yeah, I know -- "uniparty." Whatever.

Oh, and that "peace agreement" between Russia and Ukraine? What you're really describing is Ukrainian surrender. If Russia invaded your living room, I guess you'd say, "Oh, that's fine. You can have it. I'll just live in the bathroom."

For the record, I'm Galestorm. I don't know why Blogger doesn't put my identity on my comments anymore. I'm been following Going Gently for years and have commented many times as Galestorm. And, yes it's a nickname, but that what my family still calls me. Everyone has an opinion, I just commented mine. If John doesn't like it, he can certainly block me. For the record, I could not stand Bush and certainly didn't f'ing vote for him. So just zip it. You don't live in the US, so your opinion is yours. As far as Ukraine, it's across the ocean. I think the Europeans should be more involved than the US. Personally, I am tired of my tax dollars going there when people are suffering in the US. I am definitely not again immigrants coming into the US if they do it legally. There is a damn big difference sweetie.

well said anon, decent people of all countries don't want war, we don't want family members sent [forced] to fight on behalf of very rich old white men the likes of bill gates and soros, because believe me, they [our family] are Not fighting for their country

Well done for leaving this open and allowing differing view points. Not many blogs do that as most seem to want to only allow comments from people who agree with them.

Thank you, John, for this space where we can get a range of points of view.
I believe that this election is the result of low information voters, like people who get their news from social media. Yes Trump will likely "solve" the wars, but not by negotiating peace. He will give Ukraine to Putin, and Gaza to Netanyahu. He is poking us in the eye - RFK, Jr., an anti-vaccine nutball as the head of all of our medical government agencies. Elon Musk will have the run of the government. Imagine!
I am beyond depressed for the country I have loved, and I am certain that many of his voters will be shocked and disappointed.

As Jesus said, Turn the other cheek. I know you are not religious, but it is good policy to follow. I will say, you do an excellent job of it John, keeping your blog civilized. You put up with a lot of BS on your blog. I do apologize if I became a little defensive with one of your followers on your blog. The bottom line is we are all in this together. Good or bad, the world is in a perilous place. We must all try and come together and get along. It's starting to feel like a bunch of toddlers fighting over toys. Every country has its own problems, but when people demean mine, I do get a little defensive. Graveyards are full of Americans and British soldiers that fought for our freedom. I do get a little defensive, but that's on me, because I care that they died for me, you, and everyone that has a different view. So many forget that. Galestorm

I think much of the shock and dismay comes from the fact that many Brits don’t understand how a country can vote for someone who is demonstrably: a liar, a convicted felon, a bully, a womanizer, self centred, rude and defensive. having said that the majority of those qualities apply to Boris Johnson. The main difference is that he has a posh accent and went to the “right”:schools…something that goes down well will many Brits.

  67. Trump’s win is an existential crisis. I’m an American, and I expect the U.S. will become a dystopian hellhole for all but the wealthy after his inauguration. My husband and I are relatively well off, but if I weren’t so old I would truly think about moving out of the country.

  68. A fucking mess is what we have here. Hopefully he can't burn everything down in 4 years.

  69. Keep in mind only just over 51% of U.S. voters chose him. A little less than 50% chose someone else. Only 65.5% of eligible voters , though high, were expected to cast a ballot. So, a lot of our citizens did not vote but I have not found on the internet yet the actual percentage of how many did mot bother to vote, so we don't know their preference.. Do not assume this vote with so many not voting means they favor the winner of this election. The vast majority of our citizens may, in fact, prefer someone other than that person, didn't like the choices so simply did nit vote — they failed to see how their lives might be adversely affected or didn't care.. Tragically, all of our citizens will suffer the consequences of this vote as did large numbers of Europeans in one country that prompted WWII years ago.

Who knows, we may all be pleasantly surprised. I think people need to do their own independent research. The news is so biased, things taken out of context, lies etc. This is politics, nothing new under the sun, read your history. Many skeletons in many closets, both parties, other countries leaders. Think long and hard who you would want to be leading this country not just domestic but international. The sun will come up tomorrow, the world will keep spinning, like I said we may be surprised.
