Bun

Night shifts are like black holes, they engulf everything .
I’m reading before I go to bed. The day is damp and cold and murky and the fire is uncharacteristically lit and has been since 10 am.
I have Ramen noodle broth for tea.
It’s quiet
Wet days dampen the sounds from outside.

Bun is a gentle soul. She’s affectionate and calm and already motherly despite her young age .
She’s warm too, and has stationed herself behind my neck, claws sheathed and eyes wide open .
Her expression is benign.
Whereas her sister Weaver is almost paralysed with uncertainty, Bun has conviction and a sense of character.

How do you tell them apart besides observing their behavior?

    1. Weaver has a licked clean injury to her left knee which has healed but remains a bald dot

Ceci, I've had as many as four black cats at once and I was sometimes asked that. It's easy, their faces, expressions, shape, size, the way they walk etc are all different. I can even tell from a photograph years later. It's like asking a mother how she can tell her identical twin children apart. It's obvious when they are yours. They even have different meows.

  3. It's been chilly and cloudy here too. I'm wearing my winter coat and mittens already when I am out and about. Have a cozy, comfortable weekend, John. xo

  4. John, have you heard anything about this? https://www.boredpanda.com/wales-outrage-dog-free-area-anti-racism-strategy/
    WTF??

And, there is nothing better on a raw day than cuddling with a warm kitty! Enjoy

  5. A warm, purring, furry scarf - lovely. I hope Weaver will gradually start to melt. Maybe, as the weather gets colder, the fire will draw her into the fold and all will be peace and harmony. xx

Your area has our weather from Thursday (day before yesterday) when we got nearly 2" of gentle rain. It was lovely but cold.
Bun looks so sweet in the picture and I join the hope that Weaver will become more happily confident of her place in the family.
It's time to get the cozy wools and fleece out of the attic, closet, drawer, or trunk in our hemisphere!

    Hugs!

  7. Looks like you have a degree of difficulty telling the two sisters apart - just that little bald spot. Perhaps you should dye one of them ginger.

It seems your kittens have reversed their personalities since you first saw them. Gigi

Lovely photo John. The eyes say it all. She clearly likes and trusts you. Weaver and Bun have got a huge fan club out here. They are adorable.

I have had black cats for the last 30 years or so. Up to four, now down to three. When you know them it is very easy to tell them apart - different size, walk, colour of eyes, shapes of face etc etc

  14. And now I feel as if I must love Weaver best because she has issues.

  17. And here we thought Bun was going to be the shy sister. Maybe Weaver will evolve if loved and cuddled enough?

Bun's eye color is beautiful. It looks like a lavender/gray on my phone. Are they really that color? Pat in Pennsylvania

I thought initially Bun was going to be the shy one and Weaver the bold one; but it seems about face now. Bun has the upper shoulder now you'll wear a wooly scarf from now on indoors. Lets hope Weaver becomes the other shoulder or at least the lap. I hated night shifts of any sort... I'm having to have them at the moment as I have adopted a disabled all white young cat who has separation anxiety and yowls all night long. Last night was better, I hope he settles eventually.

  21. John you have had enough animals to know how to help Weaver feel more secure, so I will just say you make your home and blog places to warm
