Summer

Will from Byron Street came around this morning to repair the roof slates moved by storm isha. Older than me, I was impressed by just how quickly he got up that ladder.
Like a rat up a drainpipe.
It’s almost oppressively warm here, with hazy sunshine lifting the day.
I’m seeing clients this afternoon and have lots to do at home.
Summer may finally be here
Today’s video is of the surprise speech from Princess’s  Leonor and Infanta to celebrate the first decade of their parents accession to the throne.
King Filepe’s face is a picture

    1. It’s better the other way. The field is full grass all ready yellowing and the green hills that run in a semi circle beyond

  8. The Summer heat is in Massachusetts too. The last few days have been 90+ degrees F. Oppressive and heat warnings abound. Your garden is thriving and looking beautiful.

    2. Not hot here, sunny and 74* F with a 20 mph wind off the ocean, just a glorious first summer day at the beach. [US]

Lovely cottage garden John - glad you give Red Valerian space - my gardener hates it and I have a constant fight to stand up for it. Needs a tight rein though!

  12. Your garden looks quite summery, and as always, gorgeous! Hope you've had a good day with clients and knocked-out whatever chores you had on your list.
Take care, stay well hydrated, and be kind to yourself.
    Happy Solstice!

    1. That would have cost me a fortune for one slate repair. I was grateful he managed with a ladder and I tipped him accordingly

    4. John, I have noticed a fair few of your readers don't really seem to "do" or to "get" humour (perhaps especially Scottish humour). They're quite a po-faced serious and literal bunch, some of them. But Happy Summer to all (especially those in Australia, New Zealand and other lands south of the equator because Summer is heading back to them now so at least they have something to look forward to).

    5. Something somewhat related, that also intrigues and rather depresses me about modern communications is that people managed for many hundreds of years, in fact many more, to write in various blends of jest and solemnity or mixtures without having to use silly smileys or "lol s" or "ha ha s" to convey their intentions, but nowadays such daft textual flags seem to be required to remove all subtlety and opportunity for flexibility of varying interpretations. I am clearly too old for this world. Am I being serious? You decide, or choose.

Like the reader, or many readers, who thought or think that really is you and chic eleanor in the sidebar (haha, lol, :), oops)

    7. I agree with you Andrew. I struggle to convey my feelings easily and lightly in text or online and do resort to smileys sometimes as I am loathe to offend anyone unintentionally. I can't quite get the hang of it all but still want to join in the chat, but I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes it feels a bit like a minefield and I tread carefully as I know I am clumsy.

    8. I do feel that many American readers ( and occasionally some some “ British” miss ironic jests
Humour often disappears in the written comment for all sorts of reasons too
In Lee’s case, I think she’s just a fighter lady. Already primed to face a troll.
