Will from Byron Street came around this morning to repair the roof slates moved by storm isha. Older than me, I was impressed by just how quickly he got up that ladder.
Like a rat up a drainpipe.
It’s almost oppressively warm here, with hazy sunshine lifting the day.
I’m seeing clients this afternoon and have lots to do at home.
Summer may finally be here
Today’s video is of the surprise speech from Princess’s Leonor and Infanta to celebrate the first decade of their parents accession to the throne.
King Filepe’s face is a picture
Oh, that view!!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s better the other way. The field is full grass all ready yellowing and the green hills that run in a semi circle beyond
DeleteDon't speak too soon, but I think you might be right! Your garden, especially in the sunshine, is glorious. xx
ReplyDeleteIt needs+Janet’s touch already
DeleteOh, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI hope Summer hangs around for a while. We have sorely missed her.
Ain’t that the truth
DeleteWhat a picture. I like the Valerian flowers.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone likes them , I do, but they play havoc with the dry stone walls
DeleteThe flowers think it is summer, they are usually right.
ReplyDeleteDavid I can’t remember but I don’t think u have a garden space
DeleteToday's the Summer Soltice, the longest day of sunlight, so it is time for summer to be here. Your garden looks great, John!
ReplyDelete🌈🥰❤️
DeleteIn Wales, we had our Slate roof 'Turnerised'. Nothing moves after that!!!
ReplyDeleteIs that covered with a bitumen cover?
DeleteThe Summer heat is in Massachusetts too. The last few days have been 90+ degrees F. Oppressive and heat warnings abound. Your garden is thriving and looking beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLol every time I say it’s hot, in the US it’s always hotter lol
DeleteNot hot here, sunny and 74* F with a 20 mph wind off the ocean, just a glorious first summer day at the beach. [US]
DeleteLovely cottage garden John - glad you give Red Valerian space - my gardener hates it and I have a constant fight to stand up for it. Needs a tight rein though!
ReplyDeleteYes Janet is ruthless with it too
DeleteThat is such a lovely photograph of your cottage. You should have it framed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Solstice, John. Xx
Yes how quickly has the time flown by
DeleteWhat a lovely photo of the cottage! Enjoy the summery weather and sunshine!
ReplyDeleteBritain has gone weather and euro football mad
DeleteYour garden looks quite summery, and as always, gorgeous! Hope you've had a good day with clients and knocked-out whatever chores you had on your list.
ReplyDeleteTake care, stay well hydrated, and be kind to yourself.
Happy Solstice!
Check check check xx
DeleteMen here contacted said - they aren't allowed on a roof without scafolding now x 👷
ReplyDeleteThat would have cost me a fortune for one slate repair. I was grateful he managed with a ladder and I tipped him accordingly
DeleteWrap him up in cotton wool and keep him John x
DeleteBeautiful photo of your cottage.
ReplyDeleteIt always looks it’s best in the sun
DeleteAye, the nights start drawing in now, daylight reduces day by day, the cold winter darkness is on the way... :)
ReplyDeleteJesus Another happy character !
DeleteAt least the video was sweet, he’s a handsome dude for sure
Lee
Lee lol you are going to collect upset readers
DeleteWho cares Lol
DeleteLee
John, I have noticed a fair few of your readers don't really seem to "do" or to "get" humour (perhaps especially Scottish humour). They're quite a po-faced serious and literal bunch, some of them. But Happy Summer to all (especially those in Australia, New Zealand and other lands south of the equator because Summer is heading back to them now so at least they have something to look forward to).
DeleteSomething somewhat related, that also intrigues and rather depresses me about modern communications is that people managed for many hundreds of years, in fact many more, to write in various blends of jest and solemnity or mixtures without having to use silly smileys or "lol s" or "ha ha s" to convey their intentions, but nowadays such daft textual flags seem to be required to remove all subtlety and opportunity for flexibility of varying interpretations. I am clearly too old for this world. Am I being serious? You decide, or choose.
DeleteLike the reader, or many readers, who thought or think that really is you and chic eleanor in the sidebar (haha, lol, :), oops)
DeleteI agree with you Andrew. I struggle to convey my feelings easily and lightly in text or online and do resort to smileys sometimes as I am loathe to offend anyone unintentionally. I can't quite get the hang of it all but still want to join in the chat, but I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes it feels a bit like a minefield and I tread carefully as I know I am clumsy.
DeleteI do feel that many American readers ( and occasionally some some “ British” miss ironic jests
DeleteHumour often disappears in the written comment for all sorts of reasons too
In Lee’s case, I think she’s just a fighter lady. Already primed to face a troll.
You must get a tiny delighted feeling everytime that you pull up to that beautiful cottage!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, happy g garden you have to welcome you home every day and to greet your lucky visitors, too.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Happy Summer, John!!
ReplyDeleteDitto
DeleteThe video was adorable. And your garden is just wonderful! Enjoy summer :)
ReplyDeleteI take Will must do this quite a bit if he's able to scramble up a ladder so fast.
ReplyDeleteI also love valerian. Your garden and cottage look so good in the summer sun.
ReplyDeleteRampant valerian.
