Mucho Gusto

It’s been a busy day culminating in a cracking theatre production at Theatre Clwyd. I’ll report on that tomorrow. I’ve had supervision and explored some old memories from my psychiatric days which surprised me. And I’ve booked a car and driver from Madrid airport to my hotel for peanuts. Remember it’s my first jaunt abroad alone since my aborted trip to Rome , and I’m mindful that led to a thwarted visit to A&E

Am I nervous at travelling alone ?

I am …..but I feel it needs to be done

My very question, s thanks for asking it, Lee and answering it, John!
Stay hydrated as you travel and take antibiotics with you if your doctor (which one?) agrees.
    Most of all, have fun!

    Hugs!

  5. I worked in Madrid for three years and still go back to visit, one of my favorite cities. If you can, stay in the Salamanca or Chamberi neighborhood (the latter is relatively cheaper), on either side of the Paseo de la Castellaña. Both are centrally located and good walking neighborhoods. I was back there a year ago February, in 2023, and Madrid is still a great place to be.

  10. I've traveled alone most of the time, and I enjoy the 'freedom' it gives...I can do what I want when, and not worry about staying in my hotel if I'm tired. I've not been to Madrid, only the coastal cities. Looking forward to your report. Enjoy, my friend!

  16. You were probably just unfortunate last time with Rome that you were quite physically below par at the time. I would make it as easy on myself as I could, and the driver from the airport is worth it, and probably the same thing on the return. Am excited with you and for you.

  20. I hope that you have a great time.
The Rome episode was a one off, it won't happen again. Booking a driver takes much of the stress out of arriving in a new country.

I have faith in you John, you will be just fine. Start hydrating the day before you leave. If I could spend a few days in India alone, then take 2 eight hour flights to Toronto, then 2 days later fly down to Grenada alone, you can do Madrid. Just don’t build it up in your mind, treat it as a job. Have fun and let us know all about it. Hugs. Gigi

  22. The Rome experience was enough to put anyone off traveling. This trip will be the one that puts it all to rights.
