Silvia Sanz Torre

If Silvia Sanz Torre was conducting my choir, I’d do out if my way to please her. That’s the sign of a charismatic choir master.
In my mind charisma and passion go side by side, you see it in the great divas such as Diana Damrau, who Command  the stage with a certain something, that if you could bottle it, it would send a rocket far into space. I saw her once in New York at The Met singing The Queen of the night aria and you could literally feel the audience stiffen in glee as she started her chorus.
Peter Ustinov had oodles of charisma in spades too but his passion used to lie with words and with stories as many actors do
Audrey Hepburn had a still charisma. The late Queen a strength behind the eyes.
And I’m remembering The Red Faced Welsh Farmer here, who looked and sounded like an old pirate
And whose charisma was funnelled under a beanie had and a battered red landrover.

Without a bulldog to wake me up, I slept in after night shift. The Welsh patiently wait their turn to go out and we’ve just returned from an afternoon walk and venture to the supermarket for treats.
It’s wet and cold and I’ve heated up chowder and garlic bread which I’m going to eat with a serving spoon.
I’ve made garlic bread for me and a small mozzarella bun for the Welsh,  when cool they  will take their buns away to enjoy in a dark corner.
Dogs adore cheese.

Such is the power of an intelligent and empathetic person, naturally enough a nurse, who sees beyond the obvious and clocks charisma and emotional and intellectual power in others. Which is why there is a Going Gently family behind and cheerleading for this blog.

  2. Those are the sort of people that make life just a little more special for being in the world. To be around them ...you just want to soak them all up and help fill your soul with special.

  6. I've seen it with Barenboim working with his sons. It was like a string was connecting them. Many years ago I saw it in Abp Michael Ramsey leading a discussion with a group of Oxford university students. The rooms electric, and I sensed the persuasive power of goodness from him. Completely without ego, just responding to those young people and drawing them out.

  7. I can see what you mean about her. Wonderful. Charisma is such a special trait and I remember how your village farmer stood out as a strong character when you described him.

  10. And then there is John, a passionate nurse, animal lover, friend, village supporter, a charismatic writer and observer of the details most people cannot see or appreciate. Yes, charisma and passion go side by side in you!

Charisma is a strange thing. I can remember reading a Paxo autobiography. He said that of all the people he had interviewed Bill Clinton had charisma that would have made a fortune if you could only bottle it.

  23. As long as they don't try to use that charisma to try and take over the world, I'm all for it.

I think that charisma always involves an absence of self consciousness. That consciousness is turned outward to others. They have the ability to make you feel important and heard. Everyone craves that, I think, and we are drawn to them. They are rare and beautiful souls. I will never be charismatic. I am too awkward and self conscious. Debby
