Yesterday I parked at the beach with a coffee and just closed my eyes to the sun
Gawd I felt so much better.
For the first time since Lockdown, I reckon that this winter has been the worst in my history
It’s been dreadfully depressing
Physically depressing .
It’s almost caught me out
But hasn’t !
Yesterday’s sun was my MRS DOUBTFIRE moment
The snowdrops by the garden arch
The daffodil buds by the garden gate
Tracy Manchester’s kind text about the Memorial Hall windows
Help is on the way dears!
Spring is on the way
Each year, the winters seem longer and darker.
ReplyDeleteI thought the worst one was lockdown but I;was wrong
DeleteThe wicked witch of the East is losing her grip, Spring will come this year.
ReplyDeleteI hope it going to be a long hot summer
DeleteThis is my first winter in Wales (I moved here from sunny California). I have been surprised how quickly the light is returning.
ReplyDeleteweavinfool
I felt that this morning , as I was up early to go to the library , let’s see on Friday my first early shift in months , I’m up at 6 am
DeleteJust keep that Beast From The East away this year and let us enjoy a proper Spring.
ReplyDeleteAmen and a long hot summer
DeleteI am sorry John that this winter has been so hard - I come to your blog as I know I will feel better/ lighter/ more hopeful after reading - I am sure others feel the same - you are a light in the darkness for many
ReplyDeleteSiobhan x
You have been on a tough journey recently Siobhan
DeleteI’m not really moaning, just acknowledging
I could easily slip in the mud and be swept away - but somehow determination, my dad - something grips me by the shoulders and drags me to hope x
ReplyDeleteYes, I get that
DeleteIt's been tough. The weather has been really gloomy this year, even for a Welsh winter.
ReplyDeleteI will say it again , my lack of vit d
DeleteI have disliked this winter more than any other. It's been either dry but freezing or milder but very wet and dark with some wind thrown in too. Maybe it's an age thing but I have found this winter depressing and can't wait for spring.
ReplyDeleteMy anger towards winter is palpable
DeleteMaybe you need a moment from the film, "Brace yourself Effie". I have a vague memory of lots of endorphins being released.

DeleteI agree, it's been the toughest Winter I've had in a very long time. And loads of my friends agree. I wonder if the cost of living crisis and the depressing news from around the world is contributing plus our own personal circumstances. I saw my first single daffodil yesterday, bravely bending in the wind. Spring is coming :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteloads of my friends as well, Ali. I've no doubt the state of the world contributes
DeleteI think it’s a few things
DeleteA glut of sad news
A particularly wet winter
A cloudy winter which makes days darker
I echo Ali's thoughts (above) life is tough at present.
ReplyDeleteI have seen daffodils, pink blossom on a tiny tree and my hydrangea has many buds. Oh and my raggedy primroses, saved from last year are flowering. Spring is just over the bridge.
Just over the bridge
DeleteI like that
I’m glad it hasn’t caught you out, even if it’s come close. Help is on the way dear.
ReplyDeleteIt almost did my friend
DeleteRobin Williams - gone but never forgotten. Jackie
ReplyDeleteNot my fav male to female character that is tootsie
DeleteI simply love this!
ReplyDeleteSpring supposed to make you smile
DeleteGlad to hear that the winter blues aren't winning! Even though I get myself outside in all the weathers, I get SO tired of the cold, and long to live where I don't need a closet full of cold weather gear. Sigh. Love, love Mrs. Doubtfire. Robin had epic talents - making us laugh one of his best. Loved him since Mork and Mindy days!
ReplyDeleteThe end of the winter , I hope ends the conflict in the Middle East,
DeleteOne can hope eh
I think, too, that the energy of global unrest, the wars and conflicts, affects us all. How could it not? The world feels unsafe now, though, thinking of history, this is not new. It's just that we can all see it and hear it every day, in so many forms. Sigh.
DeleteWalked around the garden of a British friend here in southerly France on Sunday. He has lived here 35 years and is 93! He had a small stroke in June and is still recovering. This winter has been tough for him as well. In his garden, we stopped at each blooming violet, anemone and jonquil soaking up the signs of Spring on the wing. Hugs from here. x0x0
ReplyDeleteNicely put x
DeleteI don't know if it's an age thing, but I dread winter now. It just seems to go on, and on, and... But, the days are slowly getting longer, the sun is getting warmer and the garden is springing back into life. Hang on in there, everyone, it's coming! xx
ReplyDeleteNext I’ll be complaining the year is shooting by too quickly , I’m a fickle bastard
DeleteThank goodness. I'm longing for warmer days. Xx
ReplyDeleteAnd that’s unanimous
DeleteSunshine on one’s face and body works a treat.
ReplyDeleteYes, so right , I made even need to take myself away
DeleteIt just started snowing here, a moment in the sun sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh bugger
DeleteWell, it would appear I'm going to have another teary day. You and Mrs. Doubtfire have triggered it. But in a sweet way. Thank you for reminding us that yes, help is on the way.
ReplyDeleteDear Robin.
It’s the run with purpose that’s moving, spring will be here
DeleteGlad the sunny day made you feel better, John. Wishing you many more!
ReplyDeleteAmen x
DeleteIt sounds as if you are underplaying how sad the winter has been for you. I like you metaphor
ReplyDeleteHelp is certainly on the way

DeleteBette Midler singing The Rose comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteSee above Mona
DeleteI miss Robin Williams. That man wrestled with his demons and always made us laugh.
ReplyDeleteHe was like marmite wasn’t he
DeleteGlad you had a sunny pick-me-up, John. It sounds like you needed it. Spring is coming!
ReplyDeleteYes , I have missed the sun physically missed it
DeleteHear! Hear! John.......looking forward to it and all good things. Hugs from the base of the mini-mountain in Maine.
ReplyDeleteA rally rcry
DeleteThis winter I really have started to feel old. Actually I am at 80 I guess, just never felt it before. Bronchial infections, sleepless nights, now a painful knee out of the blue (what did I do in bed last night that could have caused that). To all of you in your 60's, take good care of yourselves - once you're my age things often change!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs John - enjoy those coastal views and fresh air.
Point taken and noted Mary
DeleteI'm so glad you could feel the hints of spring being on the way. Perhaps it's time to buy a potted plant that can later be transferred to the gardnen?
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I have several already babs
DeleteIt's been a terrible winter here in the US too. Although always seasonally affected, I cannot remember a winter I've felt worse. I too had a beach trip for some winter sun and it's done a world of good. Spring is coming!
ReplyDeleteI’ve never suffered from seasonal affected disorder so I wonder why I feel affected now, has it been such a dark winter? On reflection, I think it has
DeleteMay you continue to find moments of joy and renewal as we transition into spring, and may the warmth of the sun bring comfort and positivity to your days ahead.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my new post!
Thank you, I’m sure a few of us will pop over for a nose
DeleteGood man, it is you well earned! (Scandi expression)
ReplyDeleteI’d be happy in the garden as long as the sun was out
ReplyDeleteIt's boiling hot bright summer here and I have been struggling with low mood too. How could we not with all the terrible things going on? You'd have to be a psychopath not to be affected. A shame many of our world leaders are that very thing. Tina in west oz
