Sick

Dorothy is not well
The vet thought pancreatitis
I agreed she has the symptoms, though not the temperature
Meds, pain relief but not yet needing IV fluids
She will be reviewed again tomorrow morning.
She’s clingy and needy and sad
And almost collapsed once when trying to vomit
I’ve seen patients do that so didn’t panic
I don’t panic when the animals are poorly
She’s wrapped in one of my jumpers with her head on my side

They break your heart just a little, don’t they?

  1. Yes they do but it's worth it. Hope she improves soon. Lots of love from me and my Luna who cost me a small fortune in vet fees when she got very sick as a puppy xxx

  3. My lily had severe pancreatitis - she was hospitalised for a weekend - then during the daytime for more treatment until friday - I fed her through the tube at night - Then for another. week plus every hour- then she began to eat by herself and the tube. was removed - love to you both x

Our little dog, also Lily, had a couple bouts of pancreatitis which were treated with "stomach calming" meds and various diet changes. We finally settled on poaching turkey breasts and broccoli for her and knock on wood no further trouble. Hope Dorothy has a similar positive outcome, perhaps minus the home cooking!

  11. Unfamiliar with the disease in dogs, is it diet related? I know I put patients on low fat diets that were disposed to the problem. Hope she gets better soon.

I admire people who stay calm when their pets are sick, I'm stupidly panicky when mine are. And yes, it's heartbreaking to see them poorly and sad.

Hope she gets well soon,John. We had to take our dog to ER last week. She couldn’t walk. Vet said cervical disc maybe. We opted for rest and calm at home. She’s better now with meds and able to walk without support. So scary..

  49. Do we have an update on dear Dorothy this morning. If it is indeed pancreatitis she may need careful feeding and special food indefinitely. No more cocktail wieners or meatballs for her. Is D about 9 or 10? Is that old for a bulldog?

pls let us know how she is and how you are!
