Joni at the Grammys, was a lesson in respect and class. I watched it last night in tears and again this morning.
I’m not 100% today, overnight my bladder has decided to play up and has put paid to college today. I’ve pushed the fluids, taken extra antibiotics and will return to bed. Trendy Carol’s hubby had already arranged to pick the dogs up and they lined up neatly ready to greet him as I was on the loo.
Last week I received a two page letter from the health board apologising that I was one of the thousands still awaiting review.
Sorry to hear you're not 100% today and hope you are better soon.
ReplyDeleteI always loved Joni MItchell and her creativity in song but to me that version of "Both Sides Now" was terrible and rather embarrassing.
I think we reviewed a different song..true she can’t harmonise as she did, but this song was designed to be strangely reflective and different. Her rehash of the original for LOVE ACtually suited the story of Emma Thompson’s character perfectly
DeleteI am assuming that your health situation is to be reviewed to kick it up to specialists? I hope so. This situation sounds awful. Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI’m awaiting a consultant review
DeleteI don't know much about healthcare in Wales but I do hope you find some relief soon. As for Joni: I was happy to see her (my favorite Joni song here) and I burst into tears at this performance Take good care my far away friend and thank you for keeping it real. Jackie
ReplyDeleteRavelled by illness and disability she still put up a spirited performance
DeleteHope you're feeling better quickly. I just returned from a walk during which I listened to Joni Mitchel (twice through). I walked into the house just as Both Sides Now ended for the second time. It is so amazing (and tear-producing) to see her performing again.
ReplyDeleteShe looked valiant
DeleteSo sorry It's not a good time for anyone to be ill. Whenever I see reports of people complaining that they are having to wait for what can be regarded as vanity surgery I want to shout at them. Not what the NHS was created for!
ReplyDeleteTo be fair most vanity surgery is a response to mental issues and needs
DeleteI was more enthralled by Tracy Chapman and Luke Coombs. Thought they sounded just amazing. It was so beautiful. Everything about it.
ReplyDeleteI’ve just watched their performance Tracy looks beautiful dusted by grey
DeleteBoth sides now was the theme song of my youth. I still love it and Joni. Thanks
ReplyDeleteIt’s a beautifully sad song
DeleteHope your bladder settles down quickly. An apology is all well and good, but it doesn't ease the problem, does it? Joni Mitchell, always a treat. xx
ReplyDeleteShe made my day . My bladder has settled down now, I know what to do to sort it
DeleteOh, yes, Joni Mitchell. And what about Brandi Carlile? Be well.
ReplyDeleteNot a singer I know , but I understand and admire her loyalty to mitchell
DeleteTake care of yourself,
ReplyDeleteI have done
DeleteSending virtual healing hugs, John. x
ReplyDeleteThank u xxx
DeleteSorry to hear that you aren't 100%. Both Sides Now is one of my all time favorite songs. When I got my cancer diagnosis, and I was driving home from the doctor that afternoon, the song was playing. Not Joni Mitchell's original, but a duet with Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles. So whenever I hear that song, I think back to that day.
ReplyDeleteBareilles is my favourite singer
DeleteHope you feel better, John. And can get some solutions to these infections from doctors soon.
ReplyDeleteI know the solution, I just need the theatre space
DeleteThat song means so much more to me now than when I was in my teens in the 70s. It also reminded me of Johnny Cash covering Hurt which absolutely kills me. And Tracy Chapman? She is perfection.
ReplyDeleteXx
DeleteI hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra, mind I feel much better , after more antibiotics , a push of fluids and a big sleep
DeleteI wonder whether your Dr has suggested probiotics x
ReplyDeleteHis Doctor will be a General Practitioner or one specialising in urology, not a herbalist!
Delete!!!
DeleteYou may sniff Anon, and use it to take cheap pot shot's at flis; but herbalism is behind all medicine at it's root. Do some research and stop being a snob.
DeleteI have a poor relationship with my GP
DeleteKeep your beak out Jo in Auckland the comment wasn't for you
DeleteThankyou Jo xx
DeleteI won't keep my "beak" out and watch you bully flis and make assumptions that are untrue.
DeleteAt 80, Joni basically taught a Master Class in high standards and dignity.
ReplyDeleteWell said Dave , I agree completely
DeleteMy favorite Joni Mitchell song is "Songs to Aging Children Come...'
ReplyDeleteOff to listen to it
DeleteAn odd melody Debby
DeleteI liked the idea that as we are older, snippets of our past circle back to us creating a life song. The melody is haunting, though. You are right about that.
DeleteSorry you're not well again John. My DIL got a similar letter of apology for not getting her op within the 12 weeks they promised. She's now getting it in a few weeks which will be 19 months from when she first saw her consultant!!! Our local hospital is running at 110% bed occupancy capacity which means some poor souls are lying on trolleys in treatment areas and corridors waiting for a bed on a ward :-(
ReplyDeleteI could go private but can’t afford it
DeleteI hope you feel better soon. Keep warm
ReplyDeleteI did even without my usual dog hot water bottles
DeleteJM is a legendary talent. I once owned all her music. Recurring bladder issues should be a priority. That said, US hospitals are struggling too. They are now releasing patients to make room for those waiting. The next time you go out of the country, could you see a bladder specialist?
ReplyDeleteI am on limited funds
DeleteLimited funds? Really? You still manage to go out to the cinema and theatre and buy salmon though.
DeleteWhen you plead poverty yet tell us of your gallivanting we don't have any sympathy for you. Not a bit.
We? - !!! - are you one of two madam?!!!
DeleteFFllisss
DeleteOne of two? What on earth does that mean?
and less of the "Madam" it's "Sir" to you, I'm not one for wearing skirts!
DeleteWhat a misery and am glad you wisely stayed home today. A urologist once told me that if you drink enough water any infection can be washed out. Barring, of course, poisoning yourself with too much water!
ReplyDeleteDo you drink cranberry juice? That helps by changing the oH.
Wishing you well and sending
Hugs!
And he was right
DeletePlwase make that 'changes the pH'!
ReplyDeleteJoni's voice is not what it once was. But what is what it once was? I found it still rich with emotion and gloriously telling of a life lived exactly the way she wanted. I loved every moment.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the bladder John.....people don't know until they know. Miserable.
It’s stronger than it was a year ago l when she sang her new version for the first time
DeleteSo sorry to hear the bladder's playing up again. Take good care of yourself. Hoping you feel much, much better soon!
ReplyDeleteAfter an increased dose of antibiotics and lots of fluid and a long sleep, I feel much much better
DeleteJM must find it frustrating not to be able to perform like she did, but being creative and making the best of what one has is what counts.
ReplyDeleteThey said I had to drink losts of fluids. I have a lot of brown bottles in the garage, both full and empty.
You could feel the emotion in the room
DeleteGlad to read you are feeling better, drinking is good, antibiotics fantastic. Good man!
ReplyDeleteI have the same issue
DeleteI drink cranberry juice by the quart
Keith
Xx
It seems I saw something very similar to this on a PBS special a while ago.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better John. Hope you get your solution soon.
Thank u
DeleteJoni is wonderful. A true professional.
