Singing In The Rain

It’s 70 years since Singing In The Rain was made, and so it’s easy to forget just how buff Gene Kelly actually was as a young man.
He was very easy on the eye.
Around twenty five people turned up for film night which is probably better numbers than the professional Scala cinema in nearby Prestatyn
And I must admit the film holds up very well despite its age.

  1. I do like an old film! Gene Kelly's dance routine is a classic. Morecambe and Wise got close, but the original is the best! xx

  4. I love SITR, but Donald O'Connor didn't get the credit he deserved!
As a child, I had quite a crush on Gene Kelly, despite him being 12 years older then my own mum!
When my son was a teenager, refusing to leave his bed in the morning, I used to dance around his bedroom singing 'Good Morning', which for some reason got him out of bed and running to the shower room.
Of course it could have been because I can't carry a note in a bucket! X

We would like to do this but we were told by our council that we needed a licence. Did you manage to get one? How?

P.S. I hope your sister is feeling better soon.

  15. I love that song. My mother used to sing the chorus when she was feeling particularly cheery in the morning.
The 50s kitchen they danced in was delightful.

  17. Gene Kelly had the best bum in the business! I love the "Moses Supposes" tap routine and all its complexity. Debbie Reynolds was only 19 at the time of the film and Gene was 32.

What a lovely event, apart from watching the film, a chance to get out and chat to other people. I’m always so impressed with the community events you help organize. It’s so easy to be lonely as you age, to think oh why don’t I just stay home and miss out on a social life, events like these are so important on so many different levels. Jean/winnipeg

I need a nap after that. How athletic all dancers had to be in those days. Singing and dancing . A real picker upper.

  21. That was a good turnout for the film. I don't know that I could sit at one of those chairs though to sit through a film. Could anyone donate a few sofas or armchairs for events like this? although it probably wouldn't be practical (for storage etc.)

My most fave movie of all time. I listen and watch this independent take on the hit single 'Singing In The Rain'. It's very ingenious. It was done by a bunch of students. Watch towards the middle. You will see how talented they are. I watch this almost every day. Makes me smile. Makes me happy. Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW4QoWsVi_g

Col is correct when he said Donald O'Connor never
    got the credit he deserved.
O'Connor's Make 'Em Laugh routine is one of a kind.
Debbie Reynolds sings If I Had A Talking Picture of
    You-hoo on YouTube.
Gene Kelly was in the first (Broadway) production of Pal Joey by Rodgers & Hart.
John O'Hara wrote the original Pal Joey stories.
