Yesterday I received an email from a chap who has followed Trelawnyd online for a while
It was a very chatty letter which told me that his grandfather had in his possession schematic drawings of the original Memorial Hall and these he had recently collected from his brother in France.
He had framed these rare documents and contacted me to see if we would like them
How wonderful I thought.
A fantastic coup
He asked if he and his family could drive up from Bournemouth to personally drop the drawings off to us and I suggested he came on the flower show Saturday where we would reserve him a table and cream tea in appreciation and where the whole committee could thank him
I’m awaiting his reply.
How wonderful a gift
How lovely
How wonderful! I hope he comes to the flower show :-)
ReplyDeleteI do too
DeleteThere you go! The sun shines when you least expect it, to prove there is a lot of good in the world still, and that love always trumps hate. Now, won't that make the flower show even more special?
ReplyDeleteYes, turn your head on the world for a moment and it smiles back at you
DeleteYorkshire Liz has said what I was going to say, but much more eloquently. There are some generous, kind and good people in this world. I do hope he and his family can attend the flower show. Just had a thought for funds for the TCA - sell colour copies of the plans, framed or unframed. I'm sure many villagers would like one on their wall. xx
ReplyDeleteWe will make a fuss
DeleteWhat a grand gesture of him and his famly.
ReplyDeleteCan the mayor make them honorary "citizens" or some such fanfare as that? Honorary family of the area.
An award for humanity. Humanitarian award in their honor.
Or a group effort to provide them with gifts from the area...handmade things.
ReplyDeleteWow how generous of him!
ReplyDeleteAnd kind to bring it personally
DeleteHow wonderful to be offered such a gift. I hope that he and his family come to be thanked in person.
ReplyDeleteI do …the committee will sort a cheese and wine day for them if they can’t make the flower show
DeleteHaving an online presence allowed this guy to find you and make his very thoughtful and generous offer. The schematic drawings of the Hall will be very nice to have.
ReplyDeleteThis guy's grandfather, who originally held the drawings, must have a connection to the Hall and the community. I suspect there is a nice story to be told.
I look forward in finding the story
DeleteThat's a fabulous gift!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the drawings duplicated and archived somewhere, just in case of destructive forces
I’m not sure how, but we intend to frame them professionally
DeleteWhat a thoughtful and generous offer f to you and all of Trelawnyd. I also hope t these drawings can be duplicated .
ReplyDeleteHugs!
How wonderfully kind & thoughtful!
ReplyDeleteI do hope the fella & his family can attend the village flower show and see the Hall and meet many of the wonderful folks working so hard to keep the Hall open to the village.
and so meaningful x
ReplyDeleteWOW, that's a big, unexpected, wonderful development!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. Where will they be kept? Is there an archivist in Trelawnyd?
ReplyDeleteWe plan to frame them professionally and have them on display
DeleteAnd just like that.... what a wonderful thing to happen and just in time for the flower show; greater things are afoot I feel.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
And just like that x
DeleteThat's very exciting! An unexpected addition to the village history.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Won't it be wonderful if the family are able to come along to the flower show. Sharon x
ReplyDeleteIt will a lovely full circle
DeleteHow absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have just watched the first episode of - Just Like That. I agree that it was a bit of a messy start but what I did like is the continuity of That Dress appearing again. I thought that was a nice touch.
DeleteLike that paris dress
DeleteThe good side to blogging.
ReplyDeleteIndeed , you are so right
DeleteA truly wonderful gift and exciting to have VIP guests at the flower show.
ReplyDeleteRe the kindness in the world. One lovely aspect of being old, disabled and rather short - all the lovely people in supermarkets who reach things off high shelves, stop to ask if they can help and the cashiers who tell me not to hurry no one minds.
ReplyDeleteA lovely turn up for the books as they say ( wonder where that originated?) And the perfect time and place for the presentation
ReplyDeleteI love this as evidence of how your blog touches people. Nice karma.
ReplyDeleteNina
Thank u
DeleteCopies of the drawings would feel at home framed and hung in your cottage! A very thoughtful family.. GG
ReplyDeleteGood idea the originals will look beautiful on the wall
DeleteOf the hall
DeleteThe quality and interest in your posts invites this kind f gesture John - you get us all so interested. The raffle tickets for 'your' hospice arrived this morning. It is thanks to your posts that I now support it.
ReplyDeleteThank you pat, for your constant support of a hospice on the other end of the uk xx
DeleteNice piece of history, returned
ReplyDeleteOh, that's wonderful. It will be so exciting when he arrives.
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping the papers will find the story interesting
DeleteWhat a generous donation for the Memorial Hall walls, and bringing the framed prints on the day of the Flower Show would be just perfect. I hope it happens. xx
ReplyDeleteI hope so too….
DeleteHow amazing! You say the "original" Memorial Hall -- so this is not the one in use in the village now?
ReplyDeleteNo it’s the same building just with some minor modifications
DeleteDoesn't that just make a heart sing!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a nice story
