Special little moments just happen.
They often catch you unawares.
That sneak under your radar,
When you are least expecting them.
And they can brighten you heart, when you so need it.
This morning had such a moment.
The sun shining, Roger acting as co pilot his nose in the wind, we drove the seventeen miles up to the vets for his pre op assessment along wide country roads of bright spring green.
I had bought the CD of Christopher Tin’s piece The Drop That Contained The Sea which is a collection of commissioned works for chorus and orchestra centred about water in all of its forms.
I have enjoyed one of its pieces Waloyo Yamoni before, but have never listened to the entire piece before.
Each of the ten pieces is sung in a different language, and they explore different vocal traditions so diverse it’s breathtaking. African languages Xhosa and Lango are featured alongside Bulgarian, old Norse, Sanskrit, Ancient Greek, Mongolian and Portuguese.
And this morning we listened to it for the first time
Beautiful .
It’s good to be alive today.
You must have arrived feeling so much better than when you set out. Those pieces of music are very special aren't they. I hope Roger is okay. xx
ReplyDeleteHe’s fine, he loves the vets , he thinks everyone is there just to play
DeleteI bought that album after you put Woloyo on your blog. It’s very different and interesting, love it. My grandsons dog finally got spayed yesterday. It took so long to get a Vet appointment that she ended up with 6 puppies! Then they had to wait again.. Roger will be just fine, the snip is about a ten minute job. I used to volunteer at the spay-neuter clinics in Grenada, but it was mostly spays, the men there didn’t like doing anything to their male dogs, hence all the strays, a big problem. Hugs to Roger. GG
ReplyDeleteI’ve given the cd a real bashing today , the Indian Devipravaha is quite captivating
DeleteDon't worry Roger. It won't hurt ... much.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think he’d be bothered
DeleteWonderful, enthralling music John - made me feel that way too. Hugs to Roger (and you too of course)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the music pat , I loved the differences
DeleteThe snip. Not something I fancy myself... my previous two male dogs were neutered. I decided not to have my current male done - the only real drawback has been the constant leaving of his peemail signature every few yards on a walk. My bitch is getting spayed shortly - during her first season, her v#lv@ was the size of an orange and blood everywhere - she's a big girl (no chance of my male Border Terrier getting his end away with her - he'd need a stepladder!) .I understand that dogs live longer if they've been spayed or neutered. 'The drop that contained the sea' - what an evocative title - will listen.
ReplyDeleteLuckily Roger cannot reach dorothy either despite her sexual wanton ways.
DeleteBut Mary he can and so the snip will calm it all down
John have you seen the pics of Pedro at the Met Gala? Whew 😉. Jan
ReplyDeleteHe has good legs that’s for sure
DeleteI found the first piece particularly moving...the joy in the midst of rain, the growth it brings, the celebration of it. It works perfectly as a metaphor doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes……the Portuguese song is so sad too….but it’s mournful and mysterious Indian piece that moved me the most
DeleteMoving and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteHope Roger doesn't mind the lampshade too much
He will bash it into everything going
DeleteInspiring music to drive by!
ReplyDeleteWe’re huge Christopher Tin fans here but we missed him at the Llangollen Eisteddfod a few years back because one of the hounds was recovering from an op. Such are life’s strange parallels. Our current pup is too young yet to lose his love spuds but the day is in his not too distant future. Good luck to Roger.
ReplyDeleteJohn, your choice of music & theater never ceases to amaze me. A counterbalance to the mundane (?) dog neutering & evacuations on picnic blankets!
ReplyDeleteOh I’m always mundane
DeleteI do love days like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are so happy, John.
ReplyDeleteI am too, I needed a good day x
DeleteWhat nice music for a drive.
ReplyDeleteI guess it’s an acquired taste piece
DeleteI love especially "Goddess River " x
ReplyDeleteYes it’s my favourite
DeleteSome days, all the stars align to bring such unexpected joy. I'm glad you've had such a day. xx
ReplyDeleteSo am I
DeleteI shared the earlier choral piece with my former choir director, and he thanked me. He said Christopher Tin is really taking the choral world by storm. Amen to that. I can see a CD purchase in my future!
ReplyDeleteBonnie in Minneapolis
I’m so pleased bonnie x
DeleteWhat glorious, ethereal, amazing, and other such adjectives music, John. Ta!
ReplyDeleteHope Roger passed his pre-op assessment with flying colors and is set for his snip.
Will you replay this music when you make your next journey to the vet's office?
Hugs!
He has a tiny heart murmur but is generally very well
DeleteDon’t worry see the latest blog
DeleteI had a nice end to the day too, me and my friends at college all passed our skills practice
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes in lovely weather, you can get lost with the music
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about music, but love an orchestra and a choir, but wow!! Don’t Europeans sing with such passion and emotion. Marie, Melbourne, Australia
