The ukulele band gave a “spirited” performance and won over the local crowd quite magnificently
I was on the door , selling raffle tickets and window panes and did well at both. Suffice to say I was busy And had to keep sending friends to the bar for a beer….
Over 150 people turned up including lots of old faces
And would you believe it
The lovely Chic Eleanor ( centre)
Turned up
Affable despots Jason and wife claire with Claire’s dad
Gwawr and the lovely Tracy Manchester
Locals from the village Turpins et al
An action shot of Velvet Voiced Linda , Village leader Ian and bouncy Bridget
Neighbour Sailor John and Med…
Hattie and Adam
The object of the night was to publicise the TCA and not to make a profit
But with food sales ( all my chilli sold) raffle tickets and pledges for the window panes as well as the band donating their gig to us for free we made a rather impressive profit
I got home to walked the dogs around 11.30:…..I was pissed and walked into the garden arch without a clue….big laceration on forehead lol
A great night ….of a place …we all felt a part of /
It sounds like a good time was had by all and how wonderful that you made a profit, too!
ReplyDeleteSorry abpout the collision with the arch and your forhead. Ouch!
Hugs!
I have a thick head….
DeleteLooks perfect John - So many happy faces x
ReplyDeletePerfect? no ..but we were happy with the numbers and the support
DeleteGlad it was such a big success and so well attended! A ukulele band is always fun too.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn’t quite my taste but they did win me over
DeleteCongrats on the successful event, but I have to tell you that when I saw the title "Pissed", I let out a little Oh Oh because, until I saw it was about one too many beers, I thought someone or something had pissed you off. That's because, over here in America, that's what pissed means ... upset, really really angry.
ReplyDeleteNo , quite the contrary I was happy. It was a fun night with lots of good nature
DeleteGlad the evening turned out so well, other than your attempt to clobber your garden arch. :) Hope your head is doing better. PS: That chili looked really good!
ReplyDeleteIt sold out !!!!!
DeleteSounds like a good time - until the garden arch got in your way. Very rude! And no chili to take home. It's so satisfying to bring home empty pans.
ReplyDeleteI’d tasted enough chilli to last me a lifetime ..thank god there was no leftovers
DeleteJason normally looks handsome and spry but there he looks rather rough. Is that his pissed face or should we blame the camera? Eleanor looks chic, of course, through any camera - she probably does "tiddly" at most and never "pissed"?
ReplyDeleteLol that’s rather rude lol ..but I think he’d had a couple ….Eleanor does an amusing tipsy she loves the wold even more than usual ( which is considerable)
DeleteLike choral singing, Ukulele bands seem to be extremely popular. I have a friend who plays in a HUGE one in Somerset.
ReplyDeleteI noted the worst players were hidden at the back x
DeleteOy. When I read 'pissed', I thought something had upset you. I read nearly the whole post wondering what on earth would have made you mad about such a lovely evening.
ReplyDeleteIt's straight in my mind now.
Sorry about the laceration.
In Great Britain "pissed off" means the same as "pissed" in America but you have to have the "off" on the end.
DeleteWhereas "pissed" means somewhat drunk, inebriated, affected by over-indulgence in alcoholic beverage (in the UK). Similar confusion and more embarrassment can occur with the word "fanny" but I will avoid getting into that (the issue, not the... oh never mind...),
DeleteSigh…..
DeleteSounds like a great evening.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of work , but it was worth it
DeleteGood job, all! Events like that can really bond folks together and they're fun too. Ouch on the collision though.
ReplyDeleteOur community Association has earned its wings me things now, we have taken on the hall which is a huge commitment , we have made a community orchard, redeveloped the pond , regularly hold coffee mornings and heating hubs, the toddler group, and youth club are a success and the flower show has returned
DeleteLovely pics of a throng of happy people - even if you yourself ended up a bit too 'merry' for your own good.
ReplyDeleteI thought I;was allowed Raymondo , as all of the volunteers seemed worse for wear lol
DeleteNo one could seriously begrudge you your little 'moments', JayGee. Enjoy!
DeleteMy darling husband died on the 25/3 in our local hospice. Thank you for the work that you do there. My heart is broken John
ReplyDeleteSiobhan x
Condolences, Siobhan. xx
DeleteSo sorry for your loss Siobhan, many hugs from New Zealand. xx
DeleteJo in Auckland
I hope they looked after you both well .
DeleteBest wishes to you siobhan
My sympathy to you and those who loved hm, too.
DeleteHugs
We hold you in our arms dearest Siobhan.
DeleteCondolences to you and your family Siobhan. Even though I don't know you I will think of you with sympathy as you grieve.

What a great day/evening. The hall must be well and truly fixed as a venue for fun now! Well done on making an unexpected profit, too. Shame about the argument with the garden arch, but at least you've got a reminder of a good night! xx
ReplyDeleteIt’s not out of the woods . We need to market it better
DeleteEveryone looks like they had a great evening! Glad it went well. Bad luck with bumping into the archway afterwards though.
ReplyDeleteRemember dyspraxia and alcohol don’t mix lol
DeleteLooks like a great night out. I've seen the Great British Ukulele Orchestra twice and they were amazing.
ReplyDeleteWasnt WEAVER a ukulele player?
DeleteHow wonderful ... except for the laceration.
ReplyDeleteI’ve bumped worse
DeleteHope you don't feel hungover this morning?
ReplyDeleteI did …and it lingered and it was covid 😢
DeleteIt looks and sounds like a wonderful and successful day/evening. The chilli looked fab too.
ReplyDeleteNo complaints
DeleteA few complements
All sold
By the look of your photos there will be other sore heads this morning, looks like fun was had by all. Wish I lived in your village..good to have a good piss up after working so hard.
ReplyDeleteI loved several of my fellow villagers were well gone lol
DeleteA productive and enjoyable evening. I hope your head doesn't feel too sore. Xx
ReplyDeleteLol see above xx
DeleteA great and successful evening!
ReplyDeleteNice to put faces to names too
Yes, I thought that, too
DeleteYou know you have had a good night out when you wake up with a lacerated head and a blood-stained pillow. Well done to the good folk of The Village Formerly Known As Newmarket.
ReplyDeleteA diverting and entertaining evening.
ReplyDeleteGlad it all went well. Hope your head isn't too sore today!
ReplyDeleteI thought I had a hangover but also had a very sore throat . Just tested positive for covid again
ReplyDeleteAnd so will many of those attending last night test positive too! Nothing like spreading a few germs about! Perhaps you'll isolate yourself this time as you're supposed to do.
DeleteWhat a stupid thing to say, the symptoms only came on this morning. I’m in isolation now
DeleteSheesh what’s wrong with some people total idiots
Oh well, at least you had a good time pre-Covid bug. Do you still have to isolate? I know, given your work, it's advisable but in general? I'm no longer au fait with the Covid rules. Hope the sore throat doesn't develop into anything more serious. xx
DeleteWhat a bother! So sorry you've got covid again. Wonder where it came from and how many others will be + but that's not your fault, of course. Duh!
DeleteHugs!

DeleteI had to find out -- were you angry, or drunk? Guess I got my answer. Sounds like a good time was had by all, despite the germ.
ReplyDeletePissed does not mean angry in the UK
DeleteYES , I WAS A BIT DRUNK I had a few too many beers , bottled beer is not what I drink , especially the stronger %
Sunds a great night with a lovely village spirit.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have noticed pat is that post covid people are celebrating social contact again with a vengeance . Despite austerity, and fuel bills theatre box office is up, as is holiday booking etc
Deletesorry - meant 'sounds'
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fantastic night. I'm glad it went well and all your chili was eaten and you even made money! You know it's a success when you're stumbling into objects afterwards. :)
ReplyDeleteI think with the raffle and food we made over a 1000£
DeleteWell done, looks like a fab night.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely to see so many faces from the village, ones that don’t usually turn up for such things
DeleteThe Hall launch sounds like a huge success. Well done. I am sorry to hear Covid has struck again. A bump to the head will be sore. You'll need some time and rest to get well again. Take care John.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few bad heads this morning, sailor John next door was rough lol
DeleteSounds like a wonderfully successful and well-supported evening! Bravo & brava to all those who worked so hard to make it a success. Everyone in the photos look like they're enjoying themselves. Sorry about the tussle with the garden arch and that you've tested positive for the demon Covid. Take good care of yourself, John dear.
ReplyDeleteI lost my glasses too…only found them this morning
DeleteDoesn't Eleonor usually go to village events? Is she too posh to mix with the commoners?
ReplyDeleteOh do bogof dearest Anon - and I don’t mean buy one get one free.
DeleteToo posh to mix ? Another barbed comment.
DeleteChic Eleanor has graced many events , always with alacrity
Perhaps because you said "would you believe it? Eleanor turned up"
DeleteThat did sound as if she doesn't usually attend village events.
There maybe a lot of reasons why someone is surprised at someone turning up
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about you having covid again. I am just about ready to get my 6th covid shot..have not had covid or flu so I guess they are working for me. Canada has done a good job convincing us to take the shots. Hope you are feeling much better soon, just relax and enjoy Albert and the doggies GG
ReplyDeleteApparently uptake of the later jabs here are now disappointing
DeleteGreat news for the hall.
ReplyDeleteBollocks to COVID. Didn’t you recently get another booster? Hopefully that will keep it a mild case. The people I know who have had it recently haven’t had it too badly. I hope that is the same for you.
Best to Albert
Yes I’ve had four jabs. I’m ok just a sore throat and a headache
DeleteJust another thought for the hall, when I lived in a small rural town we had a well attended indoor Bowls night once a week at the local hall.
ReplyDeleteDear John (sounds like the start of a breakup letter),
ReplyDeleteWe wrote to you from our home in California a couple of months ago and now we find ourselves as homeowners just down the road in Llanelwy! We were determined to get to one of the events in the village. Damn, missed it. So close and yet so far. No excuses - this one just got away. The next event for sure.
