Coffee time at the kitchen sink
David Sidaris then Lesley Manville on Desert Island Discs
Both nice people .
I’ve put a bacon joint in the slow cooker and covered it with butter beans
That will do for supper.
Lunch will be noodles, with walnuts and some boiled rice
Apart from dog walking, I’m not leaving the house today
The weather is blustery
We didn't leave the house because of weather today. 40C degree heat is a killer.
ReplyDelete40 degrees,
DeleteI’d melt
Was surprised by Sedaris’s choice of music. We are of a very similar age and I wouldn’t have thought of any of the pieces he chose, in fact didn’t know several of the pieces .
ReplyDeleteMe too. I didn't find his D.I.D. appearance anywhere near as grippingly and often hilariously entertaining as his radio anecdotes, nor his choices of music that interesting, but don't suppose it was intended to be so.
DeleteOnly found out a year or two ago that he actually now lives with his husband in this very county where I reside, a mere 30 miles away. Should imagine, then, that he must know Brighton pretty well.
I found it illuminating
DeleteHe underlined how unfunny he can be and how hard he works at a story in order for it to become funny
He was economical in his words ( especially his comments about his father) but what he said was striking at times
Maybe I was expecting, or at least hoping for, the person with whom I was familiar. Should have kept an open mind.
DeleteI know what both of you mean. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all.
DeleteRaybeard, you made me think about the music that people choose. Do you choose a piece of music to illustrate a story that you want to tell about your life or do you choose music that you like the most? On the other hand is a piece of music special to you particularly because of the memories it holds?

Traveller, I could write reams on the subject of DID, but if you want to pursue the subject rather than use JayGee's esteemed blog, could we do it on my own? You'd be most welcome there. Thanks.
DeleteNoodles and rice?
ReplyDeleteI’ve caused a thing by making both.
DeleteIn way of explanation, I make a bowl of fragrant rice at the beginning of the week and tend to have a very small bowl of it with most of my stir fry meals
A pottering day at home - sheer bliss. Busy doing nothing, my kind of days. xx
ReplyDeleteI’ve just showered Roger , boy was he stinking
DeleteBacon joint?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/pork-joints/sainsburys-smoked-gammon-joint-750g
DeletePossibly what we would call a ham? Smoked pork of any kind is yummy.
DeleteNoodles, walnuts and boiled rice ... now that sounds interesting.
ReplyDelete"Interesting" was not the term I was seeking ASL.
DeleteLovely with a satay or typical Korean sauce
DeleteNoodles AND Rice. Too many carbs. X
ReplyDeleteI cook a bowl of rice flavoured with rice wine vinegar and have a very small bowl with most meals
DeleteNoodles, boiled rice, walnuts and bacon? What’s for afters?
ReplyDeleteLunch stir fry ( see below re rice) the bacon and veg is for supper and left overs will be stir fried to tomorrow’s lunch .
DeleteWe're staying in today, too, because it's raining cats and dogs here.
ReplyDeleteI also wondered about the rice and noodles unless they're spinach noodles, of course.
Hugs!
Udon
DeleteUdon??
DeleteActually, noodles with walnuts sounds like something I'd enjoy. Is it stir fry?
ReplyDeleteYes, with mange tout, shredded leeks and satay
DeleteA bacon joint with butter beans sounds delicious. Although I am only 35 minutes away from Trelawnyd, all is still here....the sun is shining and there is not a breath of wind....odd how the weather can be so different in relatively close places...mind you, I find that in my town we seem to be in a little micro climate almost....often it can be sunny here, while all around the hills surrounding the town are dark clouds/rain.
ReplyDeleteThe wind has dropped a bit, but still no sun
DeleteGammon sounds very good on a blustery day.
ReplyDeleteTasty tea, with baby potatoes , cooked together
DeleteWhile we are on the subject of food…two recommendations. Fish Sauce (the squid brand one) and Gochujang.
ReplyDeleteGochujang is a staple, the red box is always in my fridge
DeleteI've never eaten walnuts with noodles or rice - I do like walnuts x 🍜
ReplyDeleteJust crush them like peanuts
DeleteFudge Mo Ma.....now that is too many carbs. :)
ReplyDeleteNaw small portions
DeleteNah, moaning mavis said is was too many carbs ...I was saying fudge to his idea and that fudge then would be too many carbs....love you all
DeleteHad to look it up. Your Gammon Joint when cooked is the same as what we call Ham here in the States. Bacon, for us, is pork belly (lots of fat) smoked and cut into strips which are then fried until the desired crispness and usally a breakfast item. I will say this, your Gammon Joint is a good deal cheaper than our Ham. Enjoy.

ReplyDeleteJohn…. Went to see The Whale last night….I have never walked out on a film but did last night after 30 minutes……took hours to recover from it …in my mind it was so traumatic that a character even a fictional one could accept that he needed to life like that. I will be interested to know your thoughts if you can bear to see it. The cinematography and atmosphere, at least what I saw of it I though was brilliant….it did the job on me
There's nothing like a blustery day when you don't have to go out and you are skilled enough in the kitchen to make the home smell delicious and the meals to taste delicious. And good radio!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this post. I just spent 45 minutes listening to the Sedaris-Manville interview and enjoyed it very much. The brief musical segment featuring Aretha Franklin took me back to happy days in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteNoodles with nuts and rice? Are you kidding? Try some of your left-over Gammon with Pease Pudding; lovely.
ReplyDeleteYour lunch is far more interesting than mine. I like a day pottering about at home while the weather is blustery outside and it's cosy inside. Especially with a bacon joint simmering in the slow cooker!
ReplyDeletewhat sort of coffee?
