ABBA Voyage -

I think I’ve given my sister Janet a bit of a flavour for London for her Christmas gift to me was a ticket to see the ABBA voyage concert at the old Olympic park in Stratford .
Of course she’s going with me ( that’s the beauty of such gifts ) and in a similar vein I’ve got her a ticket for Les Miserables for her Christmas gift , with the proviso that I go too…..
A great result either way.
The kick off is February
Let’s hope the trains are running

  5. Ever so lucky you! (Trains permitting). I'd give a lot - if I had it - to see both these shows. Even though I saw 'Les Mis' three times on the London stage 30 years back it yet remains the musical that gives me more delectable goosebumps than any other - and I've seen a mighty lot of musicals, including a large number of the 'classics'.
As for 'Voyage', ditto. Only wish I could have been going with the late and even still much-missed Anne Marie of Philly in tow. She would have loved it ever so much - NOT! :-)

    2. Yes, it's strange and curious why the 'A' word always did trigger her - and likely still does. It's something we never really got to the bottom of.

    3. Raymondo I, like you saw the original Les mid back in the day and I’m revisiting after 30:years wanting that original sense of awe.
As for Anne Marie..I will raise a glass xxx

    4. Yup, that first time for me was probably the most magical theatre experience I've EVER had. I was so overwhelmed by the music, the production and the performances that on the way out (it was a w/e matinee) I stopped by the box office to buy a ticket to see it again, three weeks later. And then I saw it yet again couple of years further on, taking a former female work colleague with me who was likewise transfixed by it.
I thought the film was good, especially the acting by almost everyone involved (even if Helena B.C. had been miscast). But nothing can substitute for the electric charge that comes through from an authentic, polished live theatre performance - and you know well what I'm talking about. I hope that what you will be seeing confirms it, recreating for you that original quasi-'mystical' experience.

And, as ever, here's to our Warrior Queen of lasting memory.

  14. At least three of us thought of Anne Marie. Sounds like a great couple of shows. I wouldn't drive into London (again - that is a long story) but I wouldn't let the trains stand in my way.

    2. You see I would drive; go a day earlier like you... eat, drink and be merry; see the show; eat drink and be merry (but not so much as I couldn't drive) and then make my VOYAGE home. Bugga the train situation.

  17. We did the Europe trip 5-6 years ago when we were still in California. Yes, we did the Abba museum. The one comment I have is those folks were sure small...the clothes were tiny. I love their music.

    1. Here in the UK, the trains are disrupted because of workers' strikes. Many days there are no trains at all. Hopefully, agreements on pay and conditions will be sorted soon. x
