The Wallet

I drove back to Trelawnyd and had to meet other trustees of the Community Association for a meeting.
I was late getting home.
Tonight I was due to drive back over to the hospice for a curry night out with staff but the prospect of the hour and a half round trip was something I didn't quite need.
I need to stay in the village today
So I’m going to see Blazin’ Fiddles at the Hall

Ian from down the lane said he’d Knock  on the window for me if I managed to get a ticket, and I did, so he will. Several other people I know will be there from the village and from choir.
It’s what I need today.
A few beers and some good music

I had a lie in this morning, ( another thing I needed) and came down stairs to find that Roger had managed to remove my leather wallet from the kitchen table and had done a good job on it

It had been a birthday gift from The Prof from years ago.
And I was surprised just how upset I was when I found it in tatters
Another reason for a pint with good friends tonight

  1. Maybe Roger thought it was time to let the old wallet go and replace it with a new one, to go with your new life? Ranee

My sympathy in the loss of your two patients. Even as nurses, those events do knock the wind wind out of our sails. You were wise to stay home and treat yourself to wild music, beer, and time with friends.
Time for a new wallet, eh?

    Hugs!

  3. I think it's definitely time for a new wallet, one chosen by you. And a night in the village sounds just right.

  4. The death of one patient is enough to knock you sideways, never mind 2. I think you did the right thing by going for music, beer and friends. I always found work things ended up everyone talking shop - not what you need at all. As for the wallet, pick yourself a lovely new one - and keep it out of reach of Roger! xx

Good music, beer & friends sounds like a perfect way to unwind and reset at the end of the week you've had. Wasn't familiar with the musicians, so I Googled Blazin’ Fiddles. WOW! How have I been so unaware? That's being properly corrected... thank you! Hope you had a marvelous time this evening! 😊

  7. What a difficult day. I hope the outing and friendship, a pint and relaxing make things better. This post really brings home how harrowing yet important your hospice work is. sending hugs, I'd buy you that pint if you'd add a paypal button, btw.

Most deaths are sort of planned and supported accordingly . But some come “out of the blue” and need careful handling . I had both
I was lucky , as the staff on duty were cracking

That Roger! Glad you are going to have a night out in the village. I remember when I was 5 I received a bright red umbrella as a gift and my puppy chewed it to pieces. Take care of yourself.

  10. My daughter's puppy has been getting into mischief at her home, too. Her puppy, Sofie, dumped over a large plant and spread the dirt all over the carpet!
Hope you enjoyed your evening out!

Aggie is a cushion stealer and has no remorse…it’s the game she plays with us. Visit us and you will see 7 cushions piled up on the dining room table , She is almost 6 months old now and we forgive her anything except piddles and poos in the house . The Wolf on the other hand in his early years favoured the vintage danish chair…$ 400 later and much nicer fabric. Pups!
As for the wallet, put it in the drawer of memories .

    Good wishes

Roger is still a youngster, chewing is what they do. Provide lots of dog toys and put anything you don't want to be chewed out of his reach. I hope he wasn't scolded for the wallet however upset you were.

    2. I've found that it's the squeaky toys that cause fights, soft toys and non squeaky ones don 't cause any problems. Pups need to chew something, it's a canine version of a childs teething ring.

  14. Oh, I don't know if I agree with the previous posters who are saying 'time to move on'...I still have somewhere a cloth wallet from the 70's, in my time of 'no leather'...and now my black leather wallet is going on 30 years old. But, sometimes events happen, and we do move on. Take care, John.

The leather phase for puppies can be expensive - always the most expensive and comfortable shoes! Having spent a summer hanging around a hospice in support of a friend who was a patient I can only marvel at the strength and compassion of the staff.

  16. I hope you enjoyed the evening of caring for the caregiver. Take care of yourself, others need you. Even without a chewing puppy, I keep my wallet in a drawer when I am not carrying it. A few years ago I splashed out on an American Alligator wallet, I love it, and no one has ever noticed it. With care it will last decades.

  18. My Caesar was and still does chew things. If he sees a leather shoe or glove within reach, he goes for it. None of my other dogs chewed like Caesar does. "Blazen' Fiddles" sounds outstanding.

  19. I get sad to see things worn out and go as it reminds me of the ephemera of things, especially myself. I will someday be this wallet, or the patient in the hospice.

  20. It's hard to give up something like a wallet that gets daily use. It's like it becomes a part of us. At the same time, maybe Roger was hinting you need a new one without the past associations. :)

  21. Sorry about the rough shift but glad you had a local friends night to look forward to. Don’t fret over Roger. He was only the messenger. Sometimes the universe
dictates our opportunities to let go when we can’t do it ourselves. Hugs.
