Rice Balls & Charles

Yesterday my nephew Pete rang me up to see if I wanted to go to a local food festival with him .He’s a total outdoorsy speed junkie so this was a change of direction for him so I was delighted to do something different .
We were accompanied by my elder sister Ann and have just spent an enjoyable hour perusing the stalls and buying up tidbits not usually seen in Welsh high Streets.
I bought a selection of Italian Arancini rice balls and some overly expensive olives and after we had a nice chat and a drink in the gardens of the Glasfryn which is a restaurant overlooking Theatre Clwyd.
Pete showed me a photo on his phone, it was of when my father and mother met King Charles when he was a budding Prince Charles and was taken in the 70s
I hadn’t seen it for years
My mother looks terrified .
My father just very proud

Arancini are great fun to make…even more fun to eat

  5. That is a wonderful photo. I would have to display that one if it was mine, especially with the monarchy on everyone's mind.

    1. They both were immensely proud of this moment and later when they both went to one of the Queen’s Garden parties.
My eldest sister is a CBM and my brother in law will be an OBE soon . Both will be going to the palace too

What a delightful outing you had with Ann and Pete! Yum!
Love the history-in-the-making photo! I think you favor your Dad.

    Hugs!

  7. What a treasure that photo is! It's a shame your mom was wearing gloves -- probably her one opportunity to shake the hand of royalty and she couldn't even really touch him!

  12. Oh Bugger! I forgot it was Mold Food Festival this weekend!
We can't drop in tomorrow, we'll be at a birthday party in Lancaster.
Oh, never mind, there's always next time.
Last time we went to Glasfryn I had a very lovely steak sandwich, it was raining though, so we sat inside!
Those Arancini balls look good. X

    1. The festival didn’t have many stalls where you could purchase food to take home, most of it was to eat there…The rice ball stand had one woman in charge and she was rushed off her feet and nearly out of stock
The balls I had for supper, they were delightful

  15. I haven't met any of the royals - just a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II as she rode by in a car near Althorp House in the 80s - and I am unbothered by it. I do hope that the new King acts on his wish to slim down the royals for the sake of decency. Anyway, I wish no-one ill well and hope that he is a good and fair king.

    1. I think many of the new royals are going their own ways. The princesses eugene and Beatrice both have their own careers and Edward and Sophie’s daughter has chose not to have any royal title and is in university

But when she got home she danced around the front garden

  20. That is a wonderful photo of your parents meeting Prince Charles. Framing the photo in gold or silver would look lovely on your desk. You are following in your parents footsteps with your community leadership.

  25. What a lovely momento of a day that evidently meant a great deal to your parents. I cast my vote with the others: it needs to be displayed. Perhaps you can get an orange frame for it. :D

  26. The photo is a treasure. My grandmother had one of a cousin, with the queen mother (he was commander of the queen's guard.) The rice balls look amazing

  27. Be grateful that your Roger at least hides all of his treasures under his sleeping pad. It keeps your house neater looking.

Fritzi not only has stacks of silly items, socks and underwear are among her favorites, cached in various corners throughout the living and dining room. She has all manner of torn up pieces of cardboard, tissues, pieces of paper bags all over the living room floor. She is a canine paper shredder. It's hard for me to keep up with her.

She burrowed into my husband's stack of clothes that were ready for the washing machine and came out carrying husband's small penlight flashlight which was on.I don't think Pomeranians are generally known as burrowing dogs. I think she was just burrowing in his clothes to get his scent all over her.
