Yesterday my nephew Pete rang me up to see if I wanted to go to a local food festival with him .He’s a total outdoorsy speed junkie so this was a change of direction for him so I was delighted to do something different .
We were accompanied by my elder sister Ann and have just spent an enjoyable hour perusing the stalls and buying up tidbits not usually seen in Welsh high Streets.
I bought a selection of Italian Arancini rice balls and some overly expensive olives and after we had a nice chat and a drink in the gardens of the Glasfryn which is a restaurant overlooking Theatre Clwyd.
Pete showed me a photo on his phone, it was of when my father and mother met King Charles when he was a budding Prince Charles and was taken in the 70s
I hadn’t seen it for years
My mother looks terrified . My father just very proud
That's a great photo to have!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed. I was glad he sent it me. I have no photos of my parents in the cottage .
DeleteYour mother does look terrified!
ReplyDeleteSadly she was nervous of many things
DeleteWhat a fab photo. Your dads face made me smile, he looks so proud x
ReplyDeleteHe loved being on the council and was head of the district council for many years
DeleteArancini are great fun to make…even more fun to eat
ReplyDeleteThey are very scotch egg ish
DeleteThat is a wonderful photo. I would have to display that one if it was mine, especially with the monarchy on everyone's mind.
ReplyDeleteThey both were immensely proud of this moment and later when they both went to one of the Queen’s Garden parties.
DeleteMy eldest sister is a CBM and my brother in law will be an OBE soon . Both will be going to the palace too
What a delightful outing you had with Ann and Pete! Yum!
ReplyDeleteLove the history-in-the-making photo! I think you favor your Dad.
Hugs!
Funny but Pete looks more like him
DeleteWhat a treasure that photo is! It's a shame your mom was wearing gloves -- probably her one opportunity to shake the hand of royalty and she couldn't even really touch him!
ReplyDeleteAll of the women had to wear gloves I seem to think
DeleteWhat a lovely photo of your parents. I think a copy of it would look perfect on the wall in your cottage. xx
ReplyDeletePerhaps I will get one framed
DeleteA lovely photo and it would look good on your cottage wall. A very special outing you had also.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never been a big keeper of photos of my parents and have non on display ..yes perhaps I will
DeleteWere your parents presented to King Charles by arrangement ?
ReplyDeleteMy father was a councillor for many years
DeleteThat's a great photo John! What was the occasion that they were meeting him?
ReplyDeleteI don’t remember , I think he was just visiting local councillors in Flintshire
DeleteOh Bugger! I forgot it was Mold Food Festival this weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe can't drop in tomorrow, we'll be at a birthday party in Lancaster.
Oh, never mind, there's always next time.
Last time we went to Glasfryn I had a very lovely steak sandwich, it was raining though, so we sat inside!
Those Arancini balls look good. X
The festival didn’t have many stalls where you could purchase food to take home, most of it was to eat there…The rice ball stand had one woman in charge and she was rushed off her feet and nearly out of stock
DeleteThe balls I had for supper, they were delightful
And it looks like Charles is taller than both of them!
ReplyDeleteHe does doesn’t he ? Charles is 5 foot 10 the same as me ..my father was a little shorter that I was

ReplyDeleteI haven't met any of the royals - just a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II as she rode by in a car near Althorp House in the 80s - and I am unbothered by it. I do hope that the new King acts on his wish to slim down the royals for the sake of decency. Anyway, I wish no-one ill well and hope that he is a good and fair king.
ReplyDeleteI think many of the new royals are going their own ways. The princesses eugene and Beatrice both have their own careers and Edward and Sophie’s daughter has chose not to have any royal title and is in university
DeleteI remember she had to curtsy too which was a terrible ordeal for her.
ReplyDeleteBut when she got home she danced around the front garden
Lovely that they have a choice.
ReplyDeleteYes , Princess Anne’s children have gone very ordinary

ReplyDeleteAnonymous I pity you. You must lead a terribly boring and toxic life.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
Always the same old song with her. And she'll be along to complain some more when she is deleted.
DeleteShe is so predictable.
DeleteThat is a wonderful photo of your parents meeting Prince Charles. Framing the photo in gold or silver would look lovely on your desk. You are following in your parents footsteps with your community leadership.
ReplyDeleteI heard that the Royal Mail has been re-named Charles III Post Office. Abbreviated to C3PO. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteLOL - good one :)
DeleteNice photo John. You should have a copy on your mantlepiece.
ReplyDeleteYou are a fine mix of your parents John.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo to have available for display in your cottage. I think you bear a resemblance to both parents and a good looking fellow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely momento of a day that evidently meant a great deal to your parents. I cast my vote with the others: it needs to be displayed. Perhaps you can get an orange frame for it. :D
ReplyDeleteThe photo is a treasure. My grandmother had one of a cousin, with the queen mother (he was commander of the queen's guard.) The rice balls look amazing
ReplyDeleteBe grateful that your Roger at least hides all of his treasures under his sleeping pad. It keeps your house neater looking.
ReplyDeleteFritzi not only has stacks of silly items, socks and underwear are among her favorites, cached in various corners throughout the living and dining room. She has all manner of torn up pieces of cardboard, tissues, pieces of paper bags all over the living room floor. She is a canine paper shredder. It's hard for me to keep up with her.
She burrowed into my husband's stack of clothes that were ready for the washing machine and came out carrying husband's small penlight flashlight which was on.I don't think Pomeranians are generally known as burrowing dogs. I think she was just burrowing in his clothes to get his scent all over her.
Great photo!
