Roger is doing well
Of course he is, he’s an affable fellow with no edge to him at all.
Within a day Albert and he had an understanding and apart from the occasional botty lick they have left each other alone.
Mary as expected is his pal of sorts and has already “ taught” him to walk on a lead and feel relaxed in the car. They sleep together in the kitchen she on the reading chair, him in his crate.
I’ve had peaceful nights because of it.
Surprisingly, the Diva Dorothy has been patient so far. Lots of growls and moans when he comes too near but nothing followed through as Roger just doesn’t react to her warnings.
He skips past her like a 50 s schoolgirl, gauche and a bit clumsy,
oblivious to any upset or slight he may of caused.
Think Joyce Grenfell in St Trinians
That is good news, John. Your own peaceable kingdom. They are all so lucky to have you as their human. Hugs, Elaine
ReplyDeleteI have forgotton I’ve had lots of puppies , I’m pretty good at training
DeleteOf course he's doing well. You've trained all your animals to be gentle and unfazed by new experiences, so there should be no real dramas. They will find their own way to rub along together. He's such a lucky dog to have landed in Trelawnyd with the Gray clan. Hope the UTI is improving. You know what to do, I just wish you didn't have to do it! xx
ReplyDeleteI’m feeling a bit rough but hey ho been here before
DeleteRoger is lovely John-Though my thatch looks so similar -his behaviour is difficult in public-I was training him myself with additional private lessons -Then contacted dogs home for advice and offered more training-They said a lot would have returned him - But I love him so and he's home x
ReplyDeleteHave you tried walking him , in Indian fashion , with another dog or dogs
DeleteThank you John-and yes- he is fine after initial barking-the problem is when another dog is running off lead towards him -then he is overwhelmed-After 12 separate 1 hour sessions with the dogs home -The advice was when he gets stressed-u turn or hide behind a tree x
DeleteTake him out with a friend you has a placid dog l don’t introduce them
DeleteJust walk behind them
He will do that-Just after I got him a larger bull type ran out of nowhere ,attacked him pushing me out of the way and -falling to the ground -So I do think he's not forgotten x
DeleteHe has a wise and tranquil look about him. He's lucky and so are you & the other pets. A lovely family. Ro xx
ReplyDeleteRoger and the girls went around to trendy carol’s for a play in her garden, the idea is for Roger to be socialised quickly
DeleteHe does remind me of William. Wise boy. x
ReplyDeleteI have called him William a few times
DeleteYes, the physical resemblance seems quite extraordinary - at least from this distance.
DeleteRoger is one lucky pup to have landed at the doorstep of Mr Gray et al. It amazes me that give the correct environment animals will generally find ways to either get on swimmingly or skirt the edges of friendship; a sort of bored distain. Hope you are on the up and up kidney wise.

You have to give new dogs consistency, patience and space
DeleteGlad to hear all is going well. Such a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteCheers david x
DeleteI love how he seems to know that Dorothy's warnings are not really sincere.
ReplyDeleteNot yet they arnt
DeleteWhat a warm and friendly addition to your home. Cheers, all.

DeleteI learned the hard way with our 18 month old old lab, born during lockdown she wasn't socialised nearly enough and because we've got a big garden I didn't put her on a lead for ages! Now Stan the man (westie pup 14 weeks ) is walking nicely on a lead already, out and about in the car almost every day.......so different......but Jas the lab loves him and the feeling is mutual so it's all working out.....
ReplyDeleteSo good to see your gang are happy John

The trick is to walking him twice a day with Dorothy running ahead to give him confidence . Going to trendy carol will also give him confidence
DeleteHow sweet that Mary and Roger sleep near one another and that this arrangement leaves you in peace. How funny that Roger has made his way around Miss Dorothy without tiptoing. That must be fute.
ReplyDeleteWish I could see what I'm typing but have said that before ...
Hugs!
I’ve also underlined with Dorothy that she is the favourite . She sleeps with me
DeleteLove the 'botty lick' reference. Sounds like something Hugh Grant's character in the Paddington Bear Film would say Tess x
ReplyDeletePuppies love a good botty lick
DeleteHe's really fitting right in. What a good lad!
ReplyDeleteE
He’s like William , who was rather lovely but dim , he was my favourite dog because he was such a gentle dog, I see Roger is going to be very similar
DeleteI'm glad he's feeling better
ReplyDeleteMy old dog was in my dreams last night 😊
That breaks your heart a little , I often dream of all of mine running towards me in a field
DeleteOh yes , St Trinians (giggle)
ReplyDeleteLol not many got the connection
DeleteHa...nice to see my old school mentioned and not forgotten :)
DeleteGlad to hear that Roger has settled in so nicely. How are you feeling? Hope you are better, John. xx
ReplyDeleteI’m ok
DeleteHe has the expression of an old soul.
ReplyDeleteJust like William
DeleteLove him from afar already….all doggies need a sister or brother . So pleased for you
ReplyDeletePam from Adelaide
Oh, that furry little face! Glad everyone is getting along so well.
ReplyDeleteRoger is adorable and he is doing very well as the new order settles in at the Gray household.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Roger update, I am smitten with him.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better - its hard to be everybody's main man and also be sick!

I have developed a romantic need for a Roger of my own. Actually the last thing I need with the three I already have. An Anatolian/Lab that weighs 130 pounds and thinks he is a lap dog. A Boxer/Pitt mix that is and absolute angel and then there is Timmy the terrible terrier. A Rough Coat Jack Russel that thinks he is Alpha and is the true son of satan.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see how it could be going any better with him. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI love that image of Roger skipping along like Joyce Grenfell!
ReplyDeleteThis is splendid. Sounds like he's already done half the 'work' for you. Keep it up, little fella!
ReplyDeleteSounds like Roger has fitted in perfectly. I have just added two chickens to my flock. Slightly older than I have had before so for the first time I tried adding them straight in rather than separating part of the run for an integration period. I can't believe how easy it has been. They slotted right in as if they have always been there and no aggravation at all. I am so happy with how well it's gone.
ReplyDeleteI guess that fitting into a pack isn't always easy or even guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's settling in well!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet face..your Roger..
