Gay Wizards

I disliked the Harry Potter film franchise finding it all somewhat tiresome  but I liked the first Fantastic Beasts movie , which is a prequel of sorts.
I didn’t enjoy or understand the second film in the Beast trilogy but sort of got to grips with the third-  tonight’s movie fantastic Beasts The Secrets Of Dumbledore
I say sort of ……
The action bits were exciting , I like the Queenie and Jacob characters too but over all it is
Jude Law who made it for me as he makes for a rather tasty gay bear dad wizard, what with his lovely beard and wide selection of hand knitted tank tops.

  1. Being bisexual, I would definitely say neither Dumbledore or Grindelwald is my type but I do wish there were more LGBT characters

    1. I agree ….and it’s sad in a way that both Dumbledore and Grundlewald are tragic sad characters

  2. Jude Law always manages to be rather tasty in all his films, even when he's playing the Pope fer gawd's sake.

Sindy's Ken? What relevance does that have to John's review?

  5. Apparently the movie was made to make more money to J.K. and it shows: plot holes, discrepancies and downright too long. The sad part is, I used to love the books. Now, that TERF has gotten to me and I cannot enjoy anything Potter anymore.
    Ugh.

    XOXO

    1. The sign of a good film is that it should stand alone without anything having read the book it’s based on
Like I said, I often didn’t have a clue what was happening

  6. I'll agree on Jude. Shame top billing went to Eddie Redmayne since it was Law heading up the ensemble cast.

  7. Well I loved the Harry Potter movies... especially the first 2... Evrerything was brand new and exciting magical stuff.. a castle.. wizards.. but as the movies went on they lost a little bit of that magical quality to them and got darker. I watched til the end but the first two will always have my heart.. I enjoyed the books too.. My favorite part of the 'Beasts' movies for me is always the creatures.. the imaginations behind them just fascinate me.. For me the more creatures the better the film.. I did go see the latest one.. I agree with Jude Law as Dumbledore and i do like Eddie Redmayne and the Queenie and Jacob storyline.. Entertaining with some popcorn and soda a nice few hours in the theater..

  8. I saw all the films, finding them not so much 'tiresome' but 'tirING'. For all of them within less than the first hour my brain was tuning out. Too much for my simple mind to take in and to be engrossed through their epic lengths. I'll confess that the special effects were impressive throughout, to say the least, and many of the films had nice 'touches', especially in and by some of the casting. However, can't see me wanting to sit through any single one of them again.

    2. I'm the same as you on the LOTR films, as well as the Hobbits. Didn't see the KK on purpose, as anything to do with animals in a central role, even fictional mechanised or drawn ones, including monsters, pushes too many emotional buttons for me.

  10. I remember knitting myself a Fair Isle tank top in the 70's. Mind you, I was a lot younger and a very lot slimmer then! xx

I appreciated the technology that went into the films, but didn't like the films as such. Too much cherry picking from the books, too many plot holes, unexplained storylines, etc. I've read all the books, husband hasn't and he checked out after the first 15 minutes.

  13. Ah - waiting to see the last "Fantastic Beasts" on TV, rather than the theater. Even though I do love the Harry Potter franchise, to see them at home is enough. The Harry Potter books, up to the last 2 or 3 were the last books that I read aloud to my son, who by then, was "too old for that, Mom!" I watched the special episode where many of the actors reunited, and it was lovely to see and hear them talk about what magic making the films were, and growing up together, literally, on the big screen. It was touching. I hear that the Florida Disney Harry Potter World is beyond amazing!

  15. I am also waiting to see this movie on TV. I missed the second one and need to catch up. I enjoyed both the Harry Potter movies and the books. I am happy to see they are keeping the world alive with new stories.

  16. I watch a movie to be entertained and rarely retain too much. I like the fantastic and effects and fun of it all. I go to escape and not to think a lot. Makes it easy to watch over again. I enjoyed the harry potter movies and fantastic beasts, star wars, Sherlock etc..I want to laugh and be amazed with it all. I plan to see the other prequel Potter movies...the selection of actors seems to be most helpful and from you all are saying may be the saving graces. Have a sparkling day.

  17. I'm not a huge "Potter" fan either -- only saw a few of the movies when visiting some younger relatives and only read the first two books. I've never been big on fantasy fiction. I've heard the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise pales beside the Potter one. I'm intrigued by the concept of hand-knitted tank tops, though.
