I have nothing at all planned for today.
This is a big change for me, as you all know, because I do like a plan and I do enjoy a list.
Today I earmarked as a thinking day.
Now I do think a great deal, like most of us I do…but I have a bad habit of thinking about the wrong things.
I procrastinate
I day dream
I worry about the wrong things,
I waste time.
I watch tictok in bed
Watched lovingly
And so, today I’m having a “ think and do” day
I’m sorting out paperwork, through ideas and am information gathering.
Decisions left about things will be made.
Loose ends tied up
Plans formulated
And lists will be ticked off…
The chimney engineer has just been and his quote is 700 £ cheaper than my first estimate
I could have kissed him
I’m adding his quote to my list of to do things on my desk
Oh by the way my Welsh is getting better.
I make it a point of watching the clunky but long lasting welsh soap opera Poble y Cwm ( People of The Valley) and even though the Welsh is a type more spoken in South Wales , I can almost get by without subtitles
Pobl y Cwm is still going!! It always was a bit clunky!!
ReplyDeleteSee the video, it hasn’t changed but it has aided many a young actor to international stardom
DeleteIt has indeed!
DeleteMy time-waster is solitaire on the computer. I can waste hours doing that!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your day of thinking! xx
Mine too. I'm down to 59 seconds on freecell :-)
DeleteI'm pyramid and klondike.
DeleteLol , Dutch to me
DeleteHappy thinking and deciding day!
ReplyDeleteThank you…it’s been bloody useful

ReplyDeleteUpdated comment... I for got a comma.
ReplyDeleteI rarely do lists, since I don't like holding myself accountable for chores I over enthusiastically write down.
I do, I need that discipline
DeleteWhen I was in elementary school, we had workbooks that were titled 'Think and Do' books. I've often thought since then, that is a sensible way to live: think and do! Enjoy the day. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers for the much lower estimate on your chimney repair!! Will you schedule the work asap?
Hugs!
I’ve asked for it to be done, I will be buying new carpets too ( the old ones are dreadful) but will get them fitted only after the dirty jobs ( the fire and the new bathroom ) are completed,
DeleteIsn't it wonderful to imagine the chimney safely working, the new bathroom finished, and the new carpets down? What joy!
DeleteHope you don't have to wait very long for workmen. Wonder if Dorothy will latch onto the workmen as Winnie did?
Hugs!
It was mary that leapt on the engineer this time
DeleteWinnie's legacy lives on in Mary!
DeleteAnd in Dorothy who greets everyone she sees on the walkway
DeleteI too am a list maker - and a ticker off John - always makes me feel better. As to the chimney - round here in the Dales a high quote often means they don't really want the job so it is always worth getting several quotes. x
ReplyDeleteYes, getting workmen is bloody difficult
DeleteSorry, but it is Pobol y Cwm, not poble. For people who've never given it a thought (and why on earch would anyone outside Wales?), there is quite a difference between the Welsh spoken in North and South Wales, both in some actual words used, and also in how the language sounds.
ReplyDeleteI did Welsh O level, and for one year we had a different teacher for conversational Welsh. She was our Latin teacher, and a North Walian. Not a happy year!
I'm a 'thought bubble' type of list maker when I want to decide something. All options down on paper, see which holds up.
Damm auto correct lol
DeleteDid you notice lots of English words creeping into the CWM script
They have crept into every Welsh conversation I have heard in the last 40yrs!
DeleteI love it when they appear , especially the oddest word
DeleteOne character in the soap makes a point of using English words which is sweet
Good on you for list making AND ticking off. I make mental lists, then sadly, rarely tick things off. Usually only the things I want to do, rather than things that need doing! I used to occasionally watch Pobol y Cwm, and try to work out what they were saying before reading the subtitles. Very rarely got it anywhere near right! Good on you for learning Welsh. Must be a great help if there are native speakers around. xx
ReplyDeleteI join the dots a lot when watching the programme
DeleteI’m french wrong in my assumptions x
I have had three attempts at learning Welsh and failed miserably.I can cope with French and German but Welsh is something else!!!Good on you for giving it a go.
ReplyDeleteOsmosis helps
DeleteAfter tending to the dogs needs which takes most of my time only priority of the day may happen-there's really no rush here x
ReplyDeleteI had my first proper lie in this morning
DeleteI enjoy a good list as well- a tick-offed one even more. Like Weaver, a list always makes me feel better.
ReplyDeleteMy new favourite time waster is "Wordle". It's the game where you get 6 attempts to guess a 5 letter word. (It's very popular on the internet right now.) My sister and I both play it in the morning with our coffee and then text each other to flaunt our success or bemoan our failure. They post a new game every 24 hours so it's something to look forward to every morning.
Hummm tiktok is evil but I love it
DeleteHours just fizz away like Bath bombs
I like an action plan. The list is helpful but the action plan, for me, includes a completion date. Excellent that you have locked in your 700 pound job. Hopefully the job will be completed soon. It sounds like your Welsh skills have grown significantly. Nice accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI need an action plan
DeleteAnd I now have one
I hate thinking days. Work is bad enough. When it is cold, I like to just curl up in bed. TikTok is evil. I can get sucked into that for hours.
ReplyDeleteMuch of my spare time, especially at night is frivolous
DeleteThinking carefully about home and me rather than work matters is a change for me
Me me meme me me lol
Your reply reminds me of Jane on 'Coupling'!
DeleteHugs!
Cheers lol
DeleteI took a do nothing day off a couple days ago. And I did absolutely nothing. No planning (except for meals) and really no agenda. It felt good. But in retrospect, I feel like I lost a day because as I did nothing, I remember nothing from that day. Yikes
ReplyDeleteGetting figures and things straight in my head has been fruitful
DeleteThat sounds like an incredibly productive day. Impressed at the Welsh language learning.
ReplyDeleteI also work alongside seven fluent welsh speakers
DeleteI have a small notebook of 'To Do' which helps me to focus. Some of them are never ending like making birthday and Christmas cards and small envelopes for my Grand-daughters pocket money, the others are projects, some old and some new. I try to do two things from the list every day, but it sometimes doesn't work out that way.
ReplyDeleteWell done to you for learning Welsh, I intended to when I lived there and apart from buying a dictionary and learning words from road signs it never happened.
Glad your chimney is finally going to be sorted and what a relief at the price.
My lists are written in detail with small boxes drawn after each one
DeleteReady for the single tick !
In the first 45 seconds, I understood, Oh great, And now, and Fiona and Chester! I’m on my way.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if the People of the Valley had a coach trip to Sunny Rhyl, stopping off at "The Crown" in Trelawnyd and having a punch up with the locals. It would make super telly.
ReplyDeleteYour imagination tickles me

Let's rephrase your words, John. This is the spin doctor speaking:
Hurray, I have nothing planned today, I am a free man.
Thinking Day? Well, that'll be the day (to cross off the calendar). Certain things you can't force/schedule.
You enjoy a list? The ticks are just click bait - trust me, John. We have now entered a world in which if we don't get a "like", even if just an audible click on the comp or a tick on some arbitrary list, we resort to the foetal position.
You can't "waste time". Time just is.
Procrastination is action in waiting.
Daydreaming is good for the soul. It's the cradle of hope.
Thinking about "wrong things". Suffering monkey brain? Well, there is a cure for it. Details on request. It won't come easy but it sure works.
I don't know what tictok is, so you are alone on that one.
All the best, John, allow the flow to sweep you along, control is an illusion,
U
Lol you need to get out more
DeleteBut thank you for the review
DeleteWe all need time to think, to do, and not do nothing. I spend much of my workweek reading, understanding thinking, by my day off, it is time to not.
ReplyDeleteYikers! I think learning Welsh is WAY above my pay grade. I do love that black telephone on your desk, though.
ReplyDeleteAnother list maker here. I like your "little boxes" to be ticked idea! There are always items on the list which remain for ages as there is some struggle with sorting them out, but otherwise it can be very helpful to me.

ReplyDeleteGosh I had to delete TikTok from my phone, it was getting ridiculous I was sat up in bed watching until the early hours most nights. It's a case of 'just one more' just one more' and than suddenly it's an hour later.
ReplyDeleteI got rid of Tik Tok after watching it for a few months and I don't miss it! I have enough to keep track of without that. LOL
