It’s been a nice evening.
Before I watched the movie, I wrote the blog then watched this delightful video of National Treasure Olivia Colman reading one of the original Queen Mum’s letters to her mother in law Queen Mary.
The applause pleased me as it wasn’t just for the scene stealing Colman. ( who deserved what she got) ……but it was also an affectionate nod to the Queen Mother , who always seems to have seen the best in people ( except for Wallace Simpson of course)
The chef had the best line..”France Will Rise Again”
The Last Duel was an excellent watch. Another swan song triumph for Ridley Scott
Jodie Comer was especially good in this gritty portrayal of middle age misogyny and male pride.
Nice night xxx
ReplyDeletei adore olivia colman. are you feeling better? i wish you good health by xmas.
ReplyDeleteI’m on antibiotics for a year
DeleteScans to follow
I loved the "Flowers" programme-especially the episode when her neighbour visited one evening-he suggesively flirted with her throughout in front of her angry husband-she laughed coyishly trying to brush him away while they cringingly danced-whilst she tried not to cause offence x
ReplyDeleteomg, i never heard of that before. how can that be? a year? i'm guessing it is very low dose? so this means you won't be feeling whole for a while?
ReplyDeleteI hope the long-term low dose antibiotic keeps the germs at bay. That regime worked well for others, so hope it does for you, too.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen "Flowers" and know nothing about Olivia Colman other than the wonderful video above. How nice you've had a lovely evening. May this be the first of many!
Hugs!
I did consider being in The Last Duel, but then RS moved the filming away because of Covid. I was in the original one; The Duallists, which was fun.
ReplyDeleteA year on antibiotics sounds worry some but if that is what it takes worth it I'm sure your in good hands John.
ReplyDeleteI love Olivia Colman she is so real not pretentious.
The Queen Mum was a real one-off. You couldn't help but like her. My MIL was on long-term antibiotics. They rotated every few weeks so she didn't get immune to them. I hope the scans reveal the cause of your problems, and that something can be done. Long-term meds isn't the best answer. xx
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to see The Last Duel so am glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a delightful reading of the Queen Mother's letter. I think she is quite an interesting character.
I’ve been enjoying Letters Live and this one was exceptional. I agree that the applause was not just for the wonderful Coleman but for the Queen Mother, as well.
ReplyDeleteI cannot get enough Olivia Coleman.
ReplyDeleteI just love Olivia Colman. I also admire your Queen Mother. Amazing women both!
ReplyDeleteI love these live letters (isn’t the audience laughing in the wrong places though?)
ReplyDeleteNo , I think they were gently laughing at the way the Queen mother saw the world .and was doing so affectionately
