I love this poem
It was shared to me by Hattie
It’s a poem that suits her

All of us who write blogs, have something in common
We leave a little of ourselves here, for always.
I leave a journal of a small life.
One looked on benignly.
One based on reality but one which is gently sanitised, idealised and seen through an optimistic hue
(With occasional warts for balance of course)

I’m melancholy tonight
The dogs know it and have crowded around
Albert , pragmatic as ever, is by himself in front of the fire.

My nephew has just texted with a grown up I will treat you to lunch when we meet in November
He has Aspergers  and is 18 so his  comment was sweetly atypical

I’ve cut the lawn, washed windows, gardened, visited the vets , got stuck in traffic, shopped and spring cleaned the bathroom
Oh and I had a meeting about the pond with the avuncular Nick from the apt sounding Well Street

I disregarded by diet and treated myself to cheese and crackers for tea
But I’m still melancholy

I’m feeling lonely today
Just today

  4. This is what I say to myself when I'm either sad or lonely "you have to have bad days to recognize and appreciate the good days, Ruth so buck it up Buttercup". It doesn't cure my blues but it puts it into perspective. XO Roooth in Oxnard CA > USA

Get over it and watch or listen to the news. How can anyone feel sorry for themselves with what's going on in the world today.
"lonliness" is an inward thinking complaint.

You feel sorry for yourself, and the world, because of what is going on in the world today. That's pretty basic, isn't it? And it takes a brave soul to admit his loneliness to the world. Take a bow, John.

  11. A meet up with your nephew sounds great. He is a sweet and thoughtful young man. Everybody, without exception, feels lonely occasionally. It is hard. My meditation for feeling distressed is: Accept things exactly as they are because they are already here. Don't judge. Allow yourself to feel as you do. It is okay. Deep inhale on reading each sentence and exhale at the end (letting go).
    Sending love and warm wishes...

  12. Wish I could hug you. I cried today because I’m tired of being alone and would love to feel someone’s arms around me.

  13. You are the lives you have touched,
    The difference you have made
From a distance, or in contact.

Wish you were here, in one of your favorite cities.

Love the poem and it's certainly one for each and every person to take to heart. Ta to you and to Hattie for sharing it.
My friend, look around your home and here at your blog to see all of the ways friends far away have shown they care for you and about you.
If only Scottie had perfected the Transporter, we'd be there to eat you out of house and home in a heartbeat - or maybe we'd each bring food for a magnificent buffet?

    Big hugs!

  15. Your story the other day of cloud watching and napping with the girls in the garden is so endearing.
    Enjoy your world, we do.

  16. Sometimes, on days like these, it is too bad that your blogging friends couldn't be gathered up and seated in your garden. There would be so much laughter, loneliness would simply evaporate.

    1. Now that would be a good day out. John should organise a big garden party fund raiser. We'd flock to Trelawnyd from all over the country.

    2. I think that the garden would not be big enough....we would need several large fields for all John's blog friends!

  17. Beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing it. And thank you, too, for sharing snippets of your life with readers all over the world. Often bringing a smile to the day. Or a laugh. Or a tear.

  18. When you're feeling lonely, just read all the comments from your many friends around the world. Count me as one, John. Just now I thought of Charlie Watts. Play some rock and roll, pal, and turn it up loud.

  19. Something to do with living alone John? For the first time in my life I have days like that but they pass. Blog friends help me enormously - dogs would do too if I could stay upright enough to take one for walks - I miss Tess. But just remember you give out huge amounts of love and care to your patients, your blog friends, the villagers - you are the most loving, caring person and know.

  20. It's funny how loneliness works even if you are in a relationship or with a group of people it can suddenly strike - no rhyme or reason for it. Hopefully a good night's sleep will restore your balance. The poem is very good. x

  24. Sometimes you just have to ride it out . Being kind to yourself, with a ‘treat’ meal was sensible. I hope a night’s sleep will restore you. That poem is gentle and insightful. Embracing what you are, including the unfinished bits is hard though.

  25. Liking the poem . . .
Melancholy sneaks in for me when I least expect . . .
    causing me to rearrange . . . breathe . . .
    it changes me up . . .
    for a minute, plus two . . .

  26. I have the lonely times too John. It's a shame we can't always find the one we need. Words help but don't really substitute for that touch, hug and closeness that a real person gives.

  27. My grandma died 51 years ago and I have a spider plant ancestor of her one-I am quite neglectful of houseplants-I used to drown them but now wait until they ask-money plant, peace lily,Christmas cactus a few others and good luck flinging untidily everywhere x
