The new lavender borders on the village green
The Trelawnyd Women’s Institute have centred some of their considerable power base to spruce up the flower beds and borders of the village green. They asked for donations and plants to help the work and
As I got home fairly early, I went out to lend a hand.
The conversation not only centred around plants and shrubbery but also the fact that that many of the village wardens have had mishaps recently. Karen M had sustained a fall in her garden as did Nick from Well Street and village leader Ian has a surgical boot after snapping a ligament as he was pottering at home. All this tempted fate, as when I was showing off humping watering cans full of water from Affable Despot Jason’s house , I felt my back twang painfully.
I knew what to do, I went home , took a painkiller and tried to keep moving, but the pain was rather intense so I plumped for plan B which which was Valium.
Back pain is often all about managing spasm and Valium or diazepam is often an emergency drug of choice. So I rang a friend in the village who I knew had some and he kindly popped two tablets to me within twenty minutes.
I thought I had taken 4 mg of diazepam but as the tablets kicked in I suspected I had in fact taken 10 mg so by 8 pm , I was nicely off my head and giggling happily at shit on the tv.
The pain is back today , but not so sharply, and I am trying to potter to keep myself going
Hope your back returns to normal asap. I've had sporadic back ache and pain for two years or so and have to be careful not to do anything too taxing for my back. I find too rapid unbending is the main thing to avoid.
ReplyDeleteIt was my fault I was showing off and over did it

ReplyDeleteYeap xx
DeleteOuch! The joys of getting older, things don't spring back like they used to. xx
ReplyDeleteI was showing off
DeleteForgot to say - the beds look lovely. Just let someone else do the watering for a while! x
ReplyDeleteThey do don’t they ? That first photo ( not taken by me but by Helen from the WI ) is glorious
DeleteNo good deed goes unpunished, I guess. Glad your friend had the Good Drugs!
ReplyDeleteNext time I’ll check the tablets lol
DeleteOh, dear, a pulled muscle is a real misery. Hope it settles down soon and goes back to its usual silent functioning. Do you need your own Rx for Valium?
ReplyDeleteSeems it's not only the wardens that have been injured. Wishing Ian, Karen, and Nick well, too.
Lovely borders and beds that will bring joy to all.
Hugs!
No but I recommend everyone has 2mg of diazepam around for such problems it works better than any pain killer
DeleteI keep a few Codeine pills to ward off migraines after the visual disturbance starts. Better living through chemistry, doncha know?!
DeleteHugs!
No John everyone shouldn't have 2 mg of diazepam on hand. It's a prescription only drug and shouldn't be handled out freely between friends. My partner nearly died after taking diazepam for the first and only time (on prescription) as he's highly allergic to it. As we found out. A blue light ambulance dash to A & E, then six nights in intensive care before another nine weeks on other wards before he was just about well enough to return home. The drug shut down his nervous system and he's needed almost 24 hour care since then. We're 4 years down the line and told there won't be further improvements now.
DeleteSo no - Do Not recommend anybody to keep Diazepam (or any prescription only drugs) unless they're actually prescribed for them.
Ah Kath, I was about to say something similar, but I will allow you to take John's ire for pointing out the rules us supposed "plebs" are supposed to follow but which medical professionals seem to feel they can flaunt at will. I have a doctor friend who had pretty much everything on offer from his house, to friends, despite my GP sternly warning me only ever to take prescribed medicines that have been prescribed for me, and never to give mine to anyone else. Ah well, maybe we will both get John's ire now :) or :(
DeleteNot at all, you both are, of course right if you have had an old prescription it would still be prudent to keep a spare pill free in case of sudden backache , to be fair drastic allergic reactions are very rare indeed, but Katy you are of course right
DeleteI guess I know what I’m talking about when it comes to my own back spasm
Only xx
DeleteIf you are wanting to take a drug you have never been prescribed and TAKEN before only do so under medical ( or nurse prescribers ) advice. Xxxx
DeleteYou did reasonably well John, in that test of your alleged new-found ability to accept criticism, although you did succumb to the need to include a self-justifying addition :) The real culprit is the "friend in the village" who committed the fundamental sin of passing on their prescription medicines to another person. Further tests will doubtless follow.
DeleteI just honestly answered your comment Andrew...I'm glad you thought I did reasonably well.........
DeleteI didn't realize it was a test
DeleteHumour John, humour...
DeleteXx
DeleteI know a few people who have fallen recently-one lady has been in bed 2 weeks and steroids have helped her and an elderly man been in hospital for 3 weeks after an encounter with 2 lively labradors x
ReplyDeleteI haven’t fallen over for an age ..my dyspraxia must be improving
DeleteSo you will have been trained in lifting of patients, but watering cans are beyond you. You are not safe to be let out sometimes!
ReplyDeleteNo patients are lifted now, they and moved and handled
DeleteHope the strained back eases up soon. The last garden I designed and planted was the last one because every time I worked in the yard I'd be sleeping on the couch with a heating pad and pain pills afterwards. Aging isn't for the faint of heart.
ReplyDeleteI’ve have sciatic pain off lane on from years
DeleteI can't tolerate any painkillers, especially codeine. Since I had my ball bladder removed years ago, any analgesic causes spasms of my sphincter of oddi. Extremely painful!
ReplyDeleteI would love the comfort of having 2mgs of diazepam for an emergency but alas my gp won't prescribe it.
You don't know of any painkillers that I could tolerate do you?😁
If you have adverse side effects like yours it’s always best going to an informed GP OR a specific pain clinic x

DeleteI was only asking in jest but thankyou, john. You are absolutely right.
DeleteMaybe the next time you dope yourself up, you should have a professional on hand to monitor the dosage. Oh, wait... Hope you feel completely better quickly.
ReplyDeleteI feel sore but ok x
DeleteFeel better soon! xx
ReplyDeleteI will x
DeleteEver heard of 'ice then heat'? Hit it with an ice pack for 15 minutes to freeze it. Then 15 minutes of heat to thaw it out and allow the blood to move/circulate in and around the wound. Athletes do this and it works for us non-athletes as well.
ReplyDeleteYes., we use it for certain types of pain at work
DeleteSilly Boy!
ReplyDeleteBack pain and spasm are ghastly. Worse pain in the world. I've seen friends and relatives through spasm and it is painful just observing it. With your high dose med, you are in la la land. No heavy equipment/driving....please. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteI’m fine .lfjust sore now
DeleteWell I didn't know that ! I hope you are on the mend xx
ReplyDeleteI am ok deArheart x
DeleteYou should have been wearing your bra darling x
ReplyDeleteI’ve lost 18 lbs mave , don’t need one
DeleteGet a grip. You will always need your bra straps x
ReplyDeleteYou going tomorrow. . ?
DeleteI'm a maybe. X
ReplyDeleteThe photographs prove it was all in a good cause! Hope you can rest tonight and don't have a shift to work...that might take keeping moving a bit too far. x
ReplyDeleteI’ve taken a couple of days off
DeleteGlad to hear it! x
DeleteOuch! Those borders look lovely, but the cost was on the high side! I hope you feel better today?
ReplyDeleteI’m ok…..in bed resting , painkillers now working
DeleteI have heard of bulldogs humping cushions but hospice nurses humping watering cans! That is a new one for me. I hope that your back pain drifts away. In your line of work you don't need that.
ReplyDeleteI feel a bit better YP but I have gone to bed at 9 pm
DeleteTens unit is a blessing to me! The home units are not outrageously priced these days.
ReplyDeleteJust read your post to SWMBO. We both chuckled and I then told her one of her gourd plants is starting to climb but needs some direction so she'd better go out tomorrow and potter with it. 😊
ReplyDeleteDon't you know that rule about NEVER taking someone else's prescriptions?! LOL
ReplyDelete(At least you had a good time.)
