“ Rough” was exactly how I looked.
I looked rough because I was ill.
Two long days on shifts on the hottest days of the year prior to almost two days walking around London had left me dehydrated.
In the bustle of work and pleasure I had forgotten to drink and by Borough Market , I felt my lifelong nemesis, a rip roaring urine infection, set in.
By the time I got back to my hotel to change for Nu’s get together I was passing blood and was shaky.
I am susceptible to urine infections , for reasons I don’t need to go into here and I was angry at myself for the fuck up but I knew all I could do was to hole up in my hotel room and drink gallons of water .
So that’s what I’ve done, with around three hours sleep.
An irritating end to a lovely couple of days and I’m feeling sorry for myself
It always seems that I’ve pulled myself up by my bra straps only to come crashing down in some sort of physical or mental jacuzzi ….
I missed Nu’s party and today I will miss a mutually flirty soho lunch and cinema at the Curzon with my friend Alex which was a let down but the only thing I need now is to rehydrate, and take some prophylactic antibiotics I have at home
….And rest
Hey fucking ho
Bad luck John. You'll be needing those antibiotics badly by now. Get home quick and if I had a magic wand I'd get you home right now, quick. X
ReplyDeleteI feel better than I did last night …but yes , I bounce back after just one antioxidant tablet…I could kick myself
DeleteAntibiotic
DeleteI've had it myself. Once you get to the passing blood stage it is painful.
DeleteOh yes
DeleteOh, John! Poor you. At least you know what it is and how to treat it, but it's a shame it spoilt your plans. Take it easy for a day or two and pamper yourself. Hope you soon feel better. Hugs! xx
ReplyDeleteJust one of those things, two busy long days at work didn’t help
DeleteYou'll know in future, carry a bottle of water with you and pack some antibiotics. Were you ever a boy scout? Be Prepared! xx
DeleteThe hot weather will have caught so many of us out with dehydration. More so if we are out of our usual routine. Urine infections are awful! So sorry you are ill and missed out on good plans. Hope you can get home soon and recover.
ReplyDeleteI suffered with bladder infections for years...no fun/very painful. Get better soon!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this, John. Hope you get can get your meds soon and, as you say, push fluids. Take care.
ReplyDeleteMavis is always right x
ReplyDeleteAnd you saw my urine sample
DeleteMavis I do believe you are John's firm real life living Guardian Angel in disguise x
DeleteI'll never erase that urine sample from my mind.
DeleteDo take care of yourself! There are docs in the City if you need them.
ReplyDeleteI did look at that for 45 £ you can get a video consultation and a prescription
DeleteOh man! I'm so sorry you ended up ill. Dehydration is a big deal, I am always preaching DRINK WATER! I add powdered electrolytes and salt to ours now, especially in this heat. (123 was the "feels like" temp here yesterday, WTF!)
ReplyDeleteBe well John!
Bloody 'ell John-keep it up the liquids-you don't want to shrivel up-anywhere-and moisturise too x
ReplyDeletePis-just remembered I heard once that pineapple may help the situation but not advisable if taking heart medication x
DeleteWhat a shame John! In the past I have had a couple of urine infections myself and they brought me down low - as if my entire body was somehow infected. A swift course of antibiotics soon had me right again.
ReplyDeleteOh Gawd...
ReplyDeleteAaaargh...peeing glass is no joke.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are on the mend.
Too easy to forget to drink though, especially with a change in routine. X
Oh, bloody hell! I find waterfall D mannose powder dissolved in water helps flush out the infection. Studies have shown similar effectiveness to antibiotics in preventing repeat infections. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32497610/
ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS travel with the antibiotics for ursine infections!
ReplyDeleteUrine!
ReplyDeleteYou're not safe to be let out on your own. Hope it passes(!!!) soon.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon, John. I've only had one URI but that was more than enough. No fun at all.
ReplyDeleteOops, that should be a UTI.
DeleteOh drat (I could say worse)- what a state to get into. I think we have all been falling short of drinking enough this past week but for you it struck home. Hope you are on the mend soon. Tell Nu she needs to have another party for you.
ReplyDeleteI got a bad case cycling the wine regions of the Loire. I blamed it on the saddle, never having ridden a bike for nigh on 300 years. Oh the injustice, and the fact the Leonardo Da Vinci homestead was just a blur of pain and piss. I feel for you John.
ReplyDeleteLXX
so sorry to hear this. they do stop you in your tracks.
ReplyDeleteTake care x
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge disappointment and misery made worse by it being avoidable. Hope your fluids and electrolytes are back in balance so you feel lots better.
ReplyDeleteSurely you'll be back in London before too long and charming Nu will have another party.
Big 'there, there' hugs
Oh, that is too bad, John. So sorry your trip was interrupted. Hope you feel better soon! xx
ReplyDeleteYou have my sympathies - nasty, vile things U.t.i's! Curl up with a pillow, take care. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteOh what an awful shame and an awful pain. Hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry John! Rest and recover and feel better soon. And get yourself a good water bottle to carry!
ReplyDeleteThat sucks. Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteSo unfortunate -- get well soon, John!
ReplyDeleteHell's bells! Your wonderful holiday disrupted. UTI's are the worst. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh no! The worst possible timing for that to happen! Then again, it's raining cats and dogs here this afternoon so I'm not sure how much urban exploring you'd be doing anyway. Take care of yourself!
ReplyDeleteSuch awful news, when plans mess up and your feeling so bad. Hope you feel better !
ReplyDeleteI have also messed up some small things that has sent me to bed for much to long. Not fun.
I was able to have a dinner out with Daughter her family and Son. First dinner out in years. It was great.
Hugs to you.
Ouch! Bad luck. Be better soon. xx
ReplyDeleteOoh. Health care providers are the worst at providing for themselves. Feel better quickly. Focus on the wonderful time you had hanging on to your bra straps BEFORE you landed in the jacuzzi.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry an infection interfered with good times.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Oh John l could cry for you such a shame hope you are feeling loads better. Take care love and hugs to you xxx 🤗❤️
ReplyDeletePoor John.
ReplyDeleteOh, NOOO!!! I do hope you have sorted it out and the antibiotics work their magic.
ReplyDeleteWell, crap!
ReplyDeleteHad antibiotics and a long sleep.
DeleteBeen there, done that. I'm sorry for the missed fun. I know how much you were looking forward to the fun.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was looking forward to last night very much .
DeleteAt least I’ve started my antibiotics , I’m no longer peeing blood and I’m off to bed xx
Not the best way to end your get a way John, shite happens when you least expect it, hopefully you will be able to go back soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry John! I know those are miserable infections. I hope you enjoyed the first part of your trip at least. It is so easy to dehydrate in hot weather and I'm sure you were happily distracted by your trip. Feel better fast!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are home safely now! Pls let us know how you are.
ReplyDeleteI’ve had two doses of antibiotic
DeletePushed fluids
Now off to bed with painkillers and bulldog
Take care of yourself Mr. Man! And you are a nurse too!! As my grandmother would say: 'TSK TSK TSK'!
ReplyDeleteI hope you rescheduled your flirty dinner!
ReplyDeletealso, clever title
DeleteOrder some D Mannose. It is fantastic as a natural remedy to UTI’s. I use it as a prophylactic. Excellent results and natural.
ReplyDeleteHello John...here's the advice of an "old" nurse who worked night 12hr. shifts for 20+ years. I was also very prone to bladder infections...never had time, or thought, to drink enough water during shifts. Once home, I drank quite a bit of cranberry juice to help but honestly, the best help came from my primary doc. He proscribed a daily dose of Macrodantin--- (don't know if they even make that anymore) But that was my life saver! I took 1 Macrodantin a day for about 5 years while I worked. When I retired in 2008, I never had any further trouble with infections, altho I still do drink a small glass of cranberry juice daily. You might want to consider this type of prophylactic treatment. One last note: during the active infection I took an OTC med called pyridium...now days it has various names but it's OTC and wow, it really relieves the pain when you pee. Take care and feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteLong term antibiotic will be my next step x
DeleteSounds awful but your descriptive recollection is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh! That's nasty! Hope you are feeling better today. :)
ReplyDeletePoor you! Hope you're better soon. x
ReplyDeleteI’m much better x
