“ I’m not mad at you I’m mad at the dirt”

Are you having a sale? “ Mrs Trellis asked over the garden wall, her watery blue eyes were twinkling
She pointed to the small yellow arm chair and the living room rug  which sat sunbathing on the lawn.
She was the third person to make such a joke this morning
Indeed, one Walker asked if I was selling the chair which she said was “ Ever so cute”
I’ve placed cushions and throws all about the garden on bushes and walls.
There is nothing better for a doggy household to deodorise things than to place them in full sun

I’m spring cleaning today. No theatre, no friends, no cinema , just carpet cleaning, proper hot water washes on the paintwork and five loads in the washing machine.
I find cleaning very therapeutic , which is all well and good when you share an 17th Century cottage with 2 dogs, a cat and a log burner. Of course having a new dyson hoover and carpet cleaner help, and I’m such a sad bastard that I always “ look” at the amount of vacuumed detritus whenever I’ve given the living room a good going over.

There is something very satisfying in inspecting the fluff amount!
Am I the only one that does this?
Again, I realise I am a sad bastard

Doors and windows are open wide letting bird song, and the scent of honeysuckle into the cottage as well as Mrs Trellis’ old lady's “ You hoo!!! “
It’s warm and sunny
And it’s a joy to be home

  1. Mine looks very much the same (minus the knife)and I always look at my dirt. Aargh. It makes me feel I have accomplished something good!

  3. Actually, checking the contents of the vacuum cleaner bag may have you discovering missing coins or other small items! But mostly you will discover a lot of pet hair!

    2. I was going to say the same- you never know what you may find in the detritus of the vacuum cleaner bag.

  4. You're not alone in that one John. V satisfying to check the fluff amount, especially if you go over the carpets again once you've just emptied the container. I can also admit to enjoying emptying the lint contraption in the tumble dryer. God I'm sad!

  5. I do ! I remember many years ago buying a Dyson....purple and lime green ,it was a thing of beauty. First day I had it I vacuumed with my old Electrolux and immediately after with my Dyson....the joy of seeing all the dirt the Electrolux had missed.
It is very satisfying seeing dirt in the canister....but then again I really do need to get out more !

  8. Many years ago when men talked about Dysons at dinner parties and had never in their lives taken any interest in vacuuming before I was persuaded to buy one, a Dyson. I hated it from the minute I got it, seeing the dirt in the cylinder and then having to EMPTY it, yuk. I went back to my trusty Electrolux with bags and chucked the Dyson in the shed. I later gave it to a young chap who thought it marvellous so I said, "have it, take it away" and he did. I prefer to judge how well my current hoover has done by how lovely the carpet looks when I've finished.

    2. Mine was that yellow one. Glad to hear they are better now. It used to block up all the time too, couldn't even manage to gobble up a sweet wrapper.

Count me in with the examiners of what has been vacuumed up. You never know what you might find mixed in with the dog hair and dirt.
How sweet it is to have a clean and perfumed (that honeysuckle) home and you're assured of having a lovely, fresh smelling home to return to during your holiday!

    Hugs!

  12. Two cats and two long haired women result in great scary hunks of detritus in the vacuum canister. I don't look through it, but feel satisfaction in dumping out a full one! You've reminded me that I intended to wash bedding and hang it out to dry today. -Jenn

  14. Cleaning is a necessary evil, and no I don't examine the contents of the vacuum cleaner, in case there are any dead 8-legged things in it. They scare me even when they're dead.

  15. I don't look at it CLOSELY, but I do look -- which produces a level of satisfaction at a job well done!

  17. I have a Bissell vacuum that removes embedded pet hair. I'm always astonished at the amount in the canister when the rugs didn't look that "hairy" prior to using it. I have one cat with fairly long hair and a long-haired Chihuahua. My hair is shorter than both of theirs.

  21. A lovely day like this and a clean house just makes life feel better. That's an impressive pile of fluff; I have a Henry and the dust is contained in bags (thank goodness!) It's always surprising how quickly the bag fills up...or maybe that's because of how long it goes between vacuuming sessions! x

  24. I am appalled by the amount of stuff which accumulates in my Bosch cordless cleaner in a fortnight - where does it all come from? My cleaner has a filter in it and it is always full of white hairs - they must be mine - nobody else lives here.

  30. Oh John I do it too.
I use a robo-vac daily and the Sharp vacuum 2 times a week, I have all hardwood and can't stand grit or animal hair floating around. 2 cats and 1 Scottie dog and I swear I sweep up the equivalent of one animal per week.

  33. I use a new Dyson Stick for smaller cleans, and it is quite astonishing how much it picks up. It has a clear barrel so you can see what's in there - that's after you've heard the knocking noises the little bits of Lego make as they're whooshed up! Because of my lung condition I also have professional cleaners in and their commercial cleaner does a great job, but they won't retrieve the Lego!! You have other problems. Which do you think is worse to step on - animal 'Oops' or Lego?

Love a fluff check after a vacuum clean, so satisfying. Although these days more a necessity check for bits of Lego and very small but very important toys that will be missed! Hils
