“Are you having a sale? “ Mrs Trellis asked over the garden wall, her watery blue eyes were twinkling
She pointed to the small yellow arm chair and the living room rug which sat sunbathing on the lawn.
She was the third person to make such a joke this morning
Indeed, one Walker asked if I was selling the chair which she said was “ Ever so cute”
I’ve placed cushions and throws all about the garden on bushes and walls.
There is nothing better for a doggy household to deodorise things than to place them in full sun
I’m spring cleaning today. No theatre, no friends, no cinema , just carpet cleaning, proper hot water washes on the paintwork and five loads in the washing machine.
I find cleaning very therapeutic , which is all well and good when you share an 17th Century cottage with 2 dogs, a cat and a log burner. Of course having a new dyson hoover and carpet cleaner help, and I’m such a sad bastard that I always “ look” at the amount of vacuumed detritus whenever I’ve given the living room a good going over.
There is something very satisfying in inspecting the fluff amount!
Am I the only one that does this?
Again, I realise I am a sad bastard
Doors and windows are open wide letting bird song, and the scent of honeysuckle into the cottage as well as Mrs Trellis’ old lady's “ You hoo!!! “
It’s warm and sunny
And it’s a joy to be home
Mine looks very much the same (minus the knife)and I always look at my dirt. Aargh. It makes me feel I have accomplished something good!
ReplyDeleteIM NOT THE ONLY ONE
DeleteI am sure you are not!
ReplyDeleteI’m sure I am
DeleteActually, checking the contents of the vacuum cleaner bag may have you discovering missing coins or other small items! But mostly you will discover a lot of pet hair!
ReplyDeleteThis must be my most boring post but at least many of you can associate with it
DeleteI was going to say the same- you never know what you may find in the detritus of the vacuum cleaner bag.
DeleteYou're not alone in that one John. V satisfying to check the fluff amount, especially if you go over the carpets again once you've just emptied the container. I can also admit to enjoying emptying the lint contraption in the tumble dryer. God I'm sad!
ReplyDeleteOh Steph I do that , a repeat hoover, to check on fluff levels
DeleteI do ! I remember many years ago buying a Dyson....purple and lime green ,it was a thing of beauty. First day I had it I vacuumed with my old Electrolux and immediately after with my Dyson....the joy of seeing all the dirt the Electrolux had missed.
ReplyDeleteIt is very satisfying seeing dirt in the canister....but then again I really do need to get out more !
You and me both lol
DeleteMy mother laid sheets out in the sun to dry on hedges for the same reason as yours.
ReplyDeleteI love how the sun cleans and gives new life to fabrics
DeleteFive loads of laundry? How often are you changing your skiddies? 😂
ReplyDeleteThey were on a boil wash
DeleteI’m washing the throws
Many years ago when men talked about Dysons at dinner parties and had never in their lives taken any interest in vacuuming before I was persuaded to buy one, a Dyson. I hated it from the minute I got it, seeing the dirt in the cylinder and then having to EMPTY it, yuk. I went back to my trusty Electrolux with bags and chucked the Dyson in the shed. I later gave it to a young chap who thought it marvellous so I said, "have it, take it away" and he did. I prefer to judge how well my current hoover has done by how lovely the carpet looks when I've finished.
ReplyDeleteI hated my old dyson , a big yellow monstrosity
DeleteThe new cordless ones are things of beauty
Mine was that yellow one. Glad to hear they are better now. It used to block up all the time too, couldn't even manage to gobble up a sweet wrapper.
DeleteCount me in with the examiners of what has been vacuumed up. You never know what you might find mixed in with the dog hair and dirt.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet it is to have a clean and perfumed (that honeysuckle) home and you're assured of having a lovely, fresh smelling home to return to during your holiday!
Hugs!
I’ll take a video of the honeysuckle later it’s in full bloom
DeleteYou are NOT the only one who does this. How else can you tell how much you’ve accomplished?
ReplyDeleteOh my friend , that god for that xx
DeleteSuch a feeling of satisfaction! And the smell of sun-aired goods is marvellous.
ReplyDeleteMeadow fresh
DeleteTwo cats and two long haired women result in great scary hunks of detritus in the vacuum canister. I don't look through it, but feel satisfaction in dumping out a full one! You've reminded me that I intended to wash bedding and hang it out to dry today. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteGet going Jen x
DeleteI've never found cleaning to be therapeutic in the least, but glad you do! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteMy first honest dissenter lol xxxx
DeleteCleaning is a necessary evil, and no I don't examine the contents of the vacuum cleaner, in case there are any dead 8-legged things in it. They scare me even when they're dead.
ReplyDeleteNow you’ve worried me
DeleteI don't look at it CLOSELY, but I do look -- which produces a level of satisfaction at a job well done!
ReplyDeleteTee hee , another one
Deletei guess i'm a sad bastard too because i always look at my dirt.
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteI have a Bissell vacuum that removes embedded pet hair. I'm always astonished at the amount in the canister when the rugs didn't look that "hairy" prior to using it. I have one cat with fairly long hair and a long-haired Chihuahua. My hair is shorter than both of theirs.
ReplyDeleteI have a dyson stick cleaner and I love being able to see how much I have lifted off the carpet.
ReplyDeleteDyson will be using this blog as an advert
DeleteI bought a Vax carpet washer recently and got that same satisfaction from seeing the dirty water! Sadly, the only bird song here at the moment is the awful squawk of the magpies. xx
ReplyDeleteI have them too, there’s a very loud fledgling who dominates the graveyard
DeleteIts so good to freshen things up in the sun. Such a natural way to do it too. Lovely to enjoy your house after the change of going out and meeting friends.
ReplyDeleteI’ve only “ owned” four houses in my life, and I have loved three of them
DeleteA lovely day like this and a clean house just makes life feel better. That's an impressive pile of fluff; I have a Henry and the dust is contained in bags (thank goodness!) It's always surprising how quickly the bag fills up...or maybe that's because of how long it goes between vacuuming sessions! x
ReplyDeleteI have a dyson pet cordless which is designed for animals
DeleteTurbo would never let me vacuum him (!)
DeleteHi John, I am always horrified by what the contents of my twice weekly vacuuming container are. Just the two of us and one cat! Yech!
ReplyDeleteI vacuume daily if I can
DeleteI like to see the dirt and fluff swirling around as I vacuum. Makes it worth the effort!
ReplyDeleteIt would seem I am not a freak lol
DeleteI am appalled by the amount of stuff which accumulates in my Bosch cordless cleaner in a fortnight - where does it all come from? My cleaner has a filter in it and it is always full of white hairs - they must be mine - nobody else lives here.
ReplyDeleteHave you used it on your mattress..now that’s an eye opener
DeleteThe larger the pile of dirt, the greater the sense of satisfaction, yes ?
ReplyDeleteOf course
DeleteSometimes i vacuume three or four times to increase the fluff mountain
I worryingly spotted a tick halfway up my curtains last week-it must of jumped off one of my dogs or me after jumping from a deer-a couple of years ago one was attached to my tummy and I had to have it removed-you never know what may be lurking in orifices x
ReplyDeleteI’ve just taken two from Dorothy
DeleteMy teddy had one on his nose yesterday and one near his ear today and yesterday a tiny one crawled across my I pad but I have been walking in fields quite a lot-this morning a hare shot from a mound with poppies and startled my tichy x
DeleteI surveyed the amount of fluff from my Dyson only this afternoon and thought are the cats really moulting THAT much?! Perhaps some of it was inherited with the carpets here . . .
ReplyDeleteWe should start a club
DeleteI’ve opened a Pandora’s box
ReplyDeleteHaha! Apparently the majority of your readers scan the fluff.
ReplyDeleteI love that you are airing your rugs and whatnot in the sunshine. There's nothing like the sun for freshening.
Enjoy your day, John!
I did DeArheart , I did
DeleteOh John I do it too.
ReplyDeleteI use a robo-vac daily and the Sharp vacuum 2 times a week, I have all hardwood and can't stand grit or animal hair floating around. 2 cats and 1 Scottie dog and I swear I sweep up the equivalent of one animal per week.
Joyce In Indiana
I could stuff a large sofa in a week!
DeleteLove my Dyson!
ReplyDeleteBonnie in Minneapolis
I always check mine for cats and usually there is enough fur to make one!
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteI use a new Dyson Stick for smaller cleans, and it is quite astonishing how much it picks up. It has a clear barrel so you can see what's in there - that's after you've heard the knocking noises the little bits of Lego make as they're whooshed up! Because of my lung condition I also have professional cleaners in and their commercial cleaner does a great job, but they won't retrieve the Lego!! You have other problems. Which do you think is worse to step on - animal 'Oops' or Lego?
ReplyDeleteLove a fluff check after a vacuum clean, so satisfying. Although these days more a necessity check for bits of Lego and very small but very important toys that will be missed! Hils
