A Nothing Kind of Day

A strange day.
It’s stormy, and we have gales here today.
I’ve done little , save for watching various eclectic stuff on iPad and tv.and didn’t leave my bed until midday.
The Bette Davis romp The Anniversary. Upstairs Downstairs ( the episode when the King came to dinner) and the delightful Canadian comedy show Kim’s Convenience was the order of the day.
By late afternoon , I became quite stir crazy and still in my nightmare the dogs and I picked up some mozzarella dippers and sat in the Car in the beach to share them .( 3.33 dippers each)
I opened the window as far as I dare, and the rain which was falling almost horizontally refreshed us all .
I wasn’t the only single person sat in their cars overlooking the slate coloured sea.
I’ve always felt sorry for single people sat in their cars before.
The wind and rain blew away the cobwebs and I’ve come home and lit the fire

  1. After a few spring-like days, it's gone all wintry again. Definitely a day for doing nothing much, which is precisely what I have done! xx

  2. I know Upstairs, Downstairs off by heart ..... I’ve seen it zillions of times. I think it’s lovely to sit in the car in the rain and stare out to sea ..... you are very lucky. XXXX

  4. It was a bit scary walking the dogs here today with the wind in the tall trees-quite a lot of fallen branches-beautiful though as the wood anemone/wind flowers are in flower x

  5. We love "Kim's Convenience" too! Did you know that fans of the show are called "Kimbits"? As Canadian as Tim Horton's "Timbits"!

  6. Put the husband to bed and had to book a Covid test for him. The dogs are unhappy because their human is asleep and they have to make do with me.

It's heavy, grey and overcast. The forecast said: snow, rain, thunder and a temp of 13C. So I think it's a stay in day.

  7. Since my partner died August 2019, no family and with lockdown restricting activities I dislike Saturdays and Sundays. My small allotment is a saviour, Saturday I was clearing the potato patch of weeds ready to sow the potato seed and Sunday I pruned my few soft fruit bushes. Two hours down at the allotment each day reinvigorated me.

  8. I have always loved sitting in the car at the seafront on wild, windy days and watching the sea. We have always referred to it as watching the seahorses ride the waves.

  9. I don't blame you going to the beach. We're now two hours away (Borth will be nearest) so it will be a Day Out and not a nip down the road any more.

It's been blowy here too - just been watching the HUGE pine tree at the top of our paddock thrash around and thinking, if that came down it would be curtains for the Guest Bedroom and probably ours too!

A nothing day here - finished a really good book and yearn desperately to meet up with friends, especially one who used to be my best friend in Wales - till she moved away - now she's near Hereford but she might as well be on the moon! Still, we can at least traverse the length of Wales again now so I shouldn't complain.

It's cloudy and windy here after overnight thunderstorms.
I've pressed a wall quilt to hang in our wee entry hall. I have also pressed some purple fabrics that will be cut into 3.25" strips and cross cut the strips into 3.25" squares. Draw a faint diagonal line on the back of the lighter fabric. Place the light and a darker square right sides together aligning their cut edges. Sew, keeping your presser foot on the drawn line. Sew on both sides of the line, then cut on the line. Open up and you have two matching Half Square Triangle block units. Of course, you can cut your squares at any size you choose. The world of making quilts is open to you!

    Hugs!

  11. I loved Upstairs, Downstairs (that's a grand episode) but my family always compared me to Ruby, not Georgina. Great for my self esteem!

  12. Sundays tend to be no fun days during lockdown when you live alone.

  13. Today I made my weeks yogurt, and picked up the necessaries for the week. I spent time with my grandson. Now Tim's asleep on the couch, and I'm in front of the computer.

  16. "Still in my nightmare"? or still in your nightclothes?

Like Barbara Anne, I worked on a quilt, but I will spare everyone the details and just say it is a throw for my summer deck, Blue Pineapples, cool. My pug has his first ear infection so with the gale winds here, our walks were limited; sand is blowing too. If I want to look at the ocean, it is right there, outside as I brew a cup of tea now.

    Good that you got out!

Hi lizzy! I've never braved a Pineapple quilt in blue or any other color but hope to commence making a Storm at Sea (have had the fabrics for years) and a Snail's Trail this year.
Hope your pug's ear heals quickly.

  18. We went to the beach today for the same reason. Started off in sunshine, then rain, then freezing rain, of course we were at the far end of the beach when the rain hit.

  19. Also, glad you like our Kim's Convenience, on its final season unfortunately. Schitts' Creek is our other home grown comedy which I highly recommend. Cleaned up at the Emmy's last year.

  20. Upstairs, Downstairs was a favorite. Nothing since has surpassed it. The beach on a sunny day is marvelous, not so much in the clouds and gales. More pensive and thought provoking.

  22. I used to love to drive to the beach, sit in the car, and watch the storms. Now I just sit on the terrace. You again have me craving mozzarella dippers. I wonder if our McDonalds even sell them.

  23. As a small child weekending with my Nana and Great Aunt and Uncle each weekend in their little four berth caravan we would drive to the seaside on wet days. Out would come the flask and the sandwiches and we would picnic in the car. I somehow always assumed that we would then get out and play or do something, but my Uncle would start the car and off we would go back to the caravan. I found it very confusing and remember the expectation of a few minutes at least on wet sand being thwarted as though it were yesterday.

  24. Kim's Convenience is my favorite sitcom...and this is the final season. I am so sad! I just love everyone on it.
