Back To University

My film studies lecture starts in a few minutes
Three hours of “ The Wind in film”
I’ve impressed myself by setting up my wireless keyboard and with the obligatory bucket of coffee I am about to christen my first very home office all of my own.
I did have a lovely Victorian desk but that went with the ex husband in order for me to keep the grandfather clock.
They cost similar amounts but I loved the clock more.
I like to be surrounded by things that please me and the desk does this.
A delicate vase with miniature yellow fish on it is filled with pencils and pens, an old framed photo of Finlay, my Filofax bible covered in birds, an indoor primula and a pot of tiny yellow narcissi, a trendy toast rack doubling as a letter holder. A puffin....a gift from an unknown blog reader....
I am all set!

Let’s hope I don’t cough and fart at the same time this morning like I did last week.
The green light went on around my box , indicating to all who was responsible.
Thank goodness the tutor merely whispered an ironic  “ How apt” given the title of the lecture

  1. Have a great time. As for farting 'better an empty house than a bad tenant'.

  2. I read somewhere back in 2019, we coughed to cover a fart, in 2021 we fart to cover a cough!!

  3. Is there room for you to rest your elbows on that desk?

  4. I loved the tour of your loved personal things round your desk John. Hope you managed to hold in the farts during this week's Zoom.

  5. One of my mentors would remark, there is more room on the outside, than the inside. I watched Knives Out yesterday, have you seen it?

I call it a fough (pronounced foff) - and a sneeze and a fart is a snart. Not that I'm guilty of either...(much) I love that desk. I've been working at home the last year with two monitors, a keyboard, a docking station and an ever constant juggle to find enough room to work on my kitchen table. I have serious desk envy

  9. It's always nice to inject a bit of humour into things I think ..... you do that in bucket loads !!!So, is your lecture about flatulence or the weather in films ? XXXX

  12. Moving around in the old building where I volunteer for a food pantry, I am ever so grateful that I can gently faff and it sounds like the squeaky old floor boards and no one's the wiser.....I hope! Carry on, John, carry on; it'll make you a memorable member of the group and a great story to tell around their table afterward. 'Fartin' John'

What perfect surroundings you've created for yourself atop your new desk! Sorry there is room for only one elbow though. Will your new desk chair have two arms so your 2nd elbow will have a comfy resting place?
I'd have chosen to keep the lovely clock, too.
My gran referred to farting as "passing wind" when she mentioned it at all. Usually it would have been tactfully ignored.

    Hugs!

  18. Was it a Zoom chorus of 21st century Le Petomane's? Or do you remain a solo (f)artist? Nice view from your window of the churchyard. I like the preaching cross there - it's older than the current church building I believe?

  22. One fine morning, I padded to the computer with my own bucket...and managed to spill the whole blessed thing on my keyboard. Suggestion for you: don't do that.

  23. I love your desk. It looks ready for you to write that book!

  24. The view towards your desk is excellent, but the people you’re zooming with see what is BEHIND you.... what’s that like John? I had to move all sorts of junk so my husband’s students didn’t get distracted by the clutter. New Zealand has a Covid outbreak in Auckland (the other end of our island) so Bill’s back to lecturing online. We’re only up to Level 2 (keep aa online record, keep your distance) but they’re in full lockdown again. University lectures are online because of the spacing issues.

So, how’s the view over your shoulder!

  27. 'How apt'! When I was in primary school the teacher was going around the class asking the pupils to spell certain words. She pointed at Richard who let out an extremely loud and embarrassing fart much to the amusement of the whole class. Miss Scott glared at him and said 'spell SURPRISED'!

  29. Ha ha, lucky we're all adults and can react accordingly 😂 an interesting, amusing post would be all the many and varied names for personal wind.
My favourite is my then (mid 1970's) 3 year old son declaring it was 'Pooey smoke' which his teenage surfer uncles picked up and it spread all up and down the East coast of Australia with the young surfers chasing waves.
