“ For the days that drag our souls into dreary circles “

Wales, like Seattle, is well known for its somewhat wet climate.
It has rained heavily every day here for the past ten days or so, and everything is muddy and wet and slimy. My friend’s ponies have been brought down from their treacherously wet and steep field on the Gop to graze on my field in the safety of flat ground.
It’s nice to see them feeding, the steam rising off their bodies in the wet
This muggy feeling in itself is exhausting and I find myself longing for a dry garden path and some weak sun on my face.
A gift of a book showing a collection of Andrew Wyeth paintings lifted the gloom nicely today
I lit the fire too, just after breakfast
Old Welsh Cottages get cold quickly if left unchecked.
I FaceTimed my friend Ruth who sent me some scotch eggs then spoke to a lady called Lydia from the office of National Statistics Wales who interviewed me about how I felt about Covid
One of the questions was about eating enough which was sobering
She told me that I get a ten pound voucher for helping out, it’s sad that everyone needs to be paid for helping out
My personal lockdown finishes on Thursday.
So it was lovely of my niece in law and great niece to FaceTime me this afternoon with a magic show
Thank god for FaceTime

I will leave you with a bit of Ella and the sublime My Funny Valentine

  1. Alan has just sent me a film of the fields opposite our Welsh home, they are all completely flooded yet again. The rain has been relentless in so many places over the last week or so.

What a lovely gift to get in the post, and Scotch Eggs AND £10 for helping out, your day is proving to be a good one 😃

Seattle's rep as being rainy is only partially true. What it does have is many, many grey days of one tenth of an inch of rain. Other cities, Chicago, New Orleans, Miami and others have twice the total rainfall as Seattle. I lived there a couple decades, and experienced it. It's the only city where the weather forecast has the term "sun breaks".....
Wish us luck in the election.
    Take care,
    Mike

How wonderful to have received such an amazing book unexpectedly! We have that marvelous book and it is a treat to spend time within its pages.

Scotch eggs and a 10 pound voucher? Sweet! Despite the rain, you have friends, family and us in computer contact, and horses, 3 dogs, one cat, and books to spend time with IRL. All the ingredients for a lovely day. :)

Yes, it's finally election day here in the US and heaven help us.

    Hugs!

  8. Surprisingly, the last few days in Seattle were clear. Cold and dry, sunny, very very beautiful. But today, Tuesday, it is pouring down rain, so we are back to the classic pacific northwest fall weather. I don't mind it, but I completely understand your desire for dry day. Hope Wales dries out soon.

  10. It is a sunny day here. I walked to the polls and made my vote for sanity. I find myself feeling hopeful, with no idea whether my optimism is warranted.

  18. Thanks for the Ella.
Ever read any of Harri Webb's poetry?
I think the poem I am thinking of is in the book "Rampage and Revel" and includes the line "English standards do not apply"..

  21. Your photo brought back fond memories of a week-long business trip to Washington DC I made in 1987, during which I found time to take in The Helga Pictures exhibition of Andrew Wyeth paintings at our National Gallery of Art. An unforgettable afternoon.
