  3. So powerful! And maybe this will introduce new fans to Purcell's baroque genius as well.

  4. Thanks for sharing this. One of my favourite opera pieces but although Annie sings it beautifully it sounds to my Aussie ears like she is singing ‘I’ll forget my fate” rather than “ah! Forget my fate” . I think I will have to watch Vanity Fair again, the scene where Becky Sharpe sings this is perfect.

  5. Not as good as Kathleen Ferrier to my ears.

  7. Very sorrowful. Often true to fate.

Haunting and beautiful, indeed, and I'm familiar with so many of the images. Can we become better stewards of the Earth in time?

    Hugs!

  11. I thought at first this was about the management of our world beating test and trace system.

  13. Love Ms. Annie. Can't wait to listen to this. How exciting. I know her voice is not what it once was... but she is such a marvelous artist. Thank you.

  14. So pleased you took my advice on this one. I was completely blown away. Your other correspondent is right - Natasha Little does a rather beautiful version in Vanity Fair. It’s unexpected but a moving moment amid all Thackeray’s dark humour.

  16. Oh, how lovely. I'm going to have to go on a back-catalogue trawl through YouTube now.
    Thanks, John. Keep safe.
