Firefighting

I’ve had one of those “ firefighting” shifts at work .
To be fair they don’t happen very often and so I’m not complaining , I’m merely telling you, but I’ve only just got home this evening and it’s 10pm .....15 and half hours after I left this morning.
I’ve done as much as I could for a complex patient, but it wasn’t quite good enough and I’m left feeling rather disappointed and very tired.
I’m 58 and I feel it today

I’m too old for this shit
But at least Dorothy has licked my sore feet back into shape
Hey ho

  2. Hugs. As a 61yo nurse, I know and feel your pain. These last two weeks have been a gong show of short staffed days, overbooked beds, and a twat of a surgeon running wild because rules don't apply to him.

So we'll just pull up our scrub pants and keep on keeping on.

    1. That is what you nurses do so well. The twat would do well to remember those at the coal face are vital to his very existence. ‘Gong show’ love that expression.

Bless you for giving this complex patient your best. Tho it wasn't enough, you couldn't do more so be nice to yourself as you enjoy well deserved rest and relaxation.

    Hugs!

  5. More hugs. You give your all, and you care, you all do or you wouldn't be working where you do.

hope you are sleeping and having a good rest.
15 1/2 hour work shift is “over the top!”
I think we need to give a “shout out” to
    nurses around the world!
Not sure how you keep on keeping on!
    HUGS!

  8. What can one say after a day like that? Just, praise to you for your work, John. My daughter, who is NOT a nurse, is doing hospice work. I don't know how she or you or anyone can do it.

  9. Rest, you did good, rest.

  12. My hat goes off to you. You are on the front lines. I have deep respect for what a nurse does. My ex-wife was a nurse and I get it.

  17. That's a long day John, doing as much as you could then you have certainly done your best even when the end result is not as you would have liked, so put your feet up and enjoy the moment surrounded by the dogs and
    Albert.

  19. Jolly John, you must be exhausted! I hope you get a decent sleep and aren’t so overtired you can’t drop off. I’m sorry your best efforts didn’t work the needed miracle, but I’m sure you did your very best, which is all anyone can ask. Puppies in your future sounds very exciting.

  22. I am sure you feel shattered John but all I can say is that if ever I find myself in that situation the comfort of someone with the care, understanding and love that you have would be worth its weight in gold. Sleep well.

  26. Whoa.
That IS a long day, indeed. Being in a caring profession is something that few can do, no matter their age.
    Hope you rested.

  28. You need a good kip ! You’ll feel on top of the world after that and be ready to fight another day. I know you don’t want to hear it but thank you so much for all that you do.... where would we all be without you and your colleagues. We might not be clapping for the NHS anymore on a Thursday evening but we are all clapping inside. XXXX
