3. Why do you follow Going Gently ? I don't remember how I found your blog, I think it was because I was reading a friend's blog and her friend mentioned something about it. Over time my friend stopped her blog, I started one and then put it down for awhile, and returned to BlogLand after thinking about some of the wonderful writers I met virtually in the blogosphere. I was happy to see you were still going with your blog, John. I was absent for the very bumpy part the last few years have been for you, but am glad to be back. It's akin to catching up with a dear friend after being away for a time.

3. Why do you like Going Gently?
Why do I like thee? Let me count the ways. I like thee for the breadth and depth and height my soul can – oh sorry, just a minute here while I collect myself – okay let me try that again – I like your blog because it shows me your daily life, shares your thoughts and feelings, and gives me a glimpse of the place where you and your neighbours and live; a place I’ve never been and probably never will, but thanks to your frequent entries I’m shown a different part of the world through the eyes of a lovely person whom I’d love to spend time with, and your blog is the next best thing. I also like that you post frequently; I have your blog in my online directory where its name and link and the first sentence rise to the top of the list (I guess this is a sort of blogroll) when you post a new entry, so when I sit down to see what my bloggy friends are up to, there you are, announcing yourself – as someone above said: reliable.
4. Three things you like about yourself.
I read your questions last night while sitting like a vegetable in front of the TV in the living room with my fella, watching Midsomer Murders, and darned if I could think of what I like most about myself besides my stubborn, glossy, thick, straight hair – probably my best feature. But seriously, while out for a walk this morning the answers came a little easier. One, I like that I’m so intensely delighted by a quiet country road and the wind making the poplar leaves shimmy and shiver; it’s good to be easily delighted and I'm glad to be healthy enough to be out there walking. Two, I can carry a tune and it feels so damn good to sing. Three, I like that my needs are few and simple so that I don't have to chase the almighty dollar too far, although sadly I do still have to chase the F'n thing.
5. Favourite movie.

4. Even though when I look in the mirror without my glasses on I increasingly see Richard Nixon, circa 1974, staring back at me, I've actually been told by other people that I look good for my age.

Why do I like thee? Let me count the ways. I like thee for the breadth and depth and height my soul can – oh sorry, just a minute here while I collect myself – okay let me try that again – I like your blog because it shows me your daily life, shares your thoughts and feelings, and gives me a glimpse of the place where you and your neighbours and live; a place I’ve never been and probably never will, but thanks to your frequent entries I’m shown a different part of the world through the eyes of a lovely person whom I’d love to spend time with, and your blog is the next best thing. I also like that you post frequently; I have your blog in my online directory where its name and link and the first sentence rise to the top of the list (I guess this is a sort of blogroll) when you post a new entry, so when I sit down to see what my bloggy friends are up to, there you are, announcing yourself – as someone above said: reliable.
4. Three things you like about yourself.
I read your questions last night while sitting like a vegetable in front of the TV in the living room with my fella, watching Midsomer Murders, and darned if I could think of what I like most about myself besides my stubborn, glossy, thick, straight hair – probably my best feature. But seriously, while out for a walk this morning the answers came a little easier. One, I like that I’m so intensely delighted by a quiet country road and the wind making the poplar leaves shimmy and shiver; it’s good to be easily delighted and I'm glad to be healthy enough to be out there walking. Two, I can carry a tune and it feels so damn good to sing. Three, I like that my needs are few and simple so that I don't have to chase the almighty dollar too far, although sadly I do still have to chase the F'n thing.
5. Favourite movie.
Bandits, with Cate Blanchett as a kidnapped woman who loves two very different men, played by Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton.

At first I stumbled on Going Gently, as you do with blogs, probably because I read your comments elsewhere and was intrigued - and continued to read because you are a master story teller of even the everyday things. Now I also read because it feels like you are an old friend. Also, you are succinct in your writing, a skill highly underrated.
4. Three things I like about myself: try my best to be kind; able to make people laugh with just words (in real life, at least, not so sure about in writing); able to see many sides of a question or problem - the shades of gray.
