Well I must say Deborah Kerr in Black Narcissus made pulling the fuck out of the Great bell on the side of the Himalayas look like a piece of cake.
Hattie and My efforts were all a bit shaky compared to that nun in a heavy habit
As you can see
Great fun !!!!!
One less thing on my bucket list

Well done. Bit funereal. Can you do a peal?
ReplyDeleteJust one bell!
DeleteLooks like a real upper body workout! But it sounds great!
ReplyDeleteThats your exercise for the week then! Well done, its lovely. x
ReplyDeleteCardio. Are you stiff and sore now?
ReplyDeleteI would be terrified it would fall down onto my head!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been really loud!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful sound but also quite a workout! Lovely Hattie may need to gain a bit of weight in order to have enough strength for this endeavor.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the bell has been repaired!
Hugs!
Lovely, John. And nice to see you in action.
ReplyDeleteLol not much action lol
Deletejust wonderful! thanks for posting it.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting experience! I didn't realize it would be so hard to get it to ring properly. Full time bell ringers must really have some arms on them!
ReplyDeleteThere is certainly a knack to it
DeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteSounds so lovely.
Jo
A lovely variation on clapping. I must say that I find the eight o'clock Thursday experience very moving each week. This was a super addition.
ReplyDeleteFat Prick (You, not Hattie). I like you. I prefer Hattie.
ReplyDeletePrince Charming, actually
DeleteNot quite !
DeleteKnees bend arms stretch..good workout but I was surprised the noise inside the church was not louder! As I have said before church bells are definitely what I miss living in NZ, that and rooks. Well done to you both but I do agree with Barbara Anne; the lovely Hattie is likely to disappear into the belfry on a big pull of that rope!
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! that must be so heavy to pull! hattie is a luv. and don't YOU look sexy in shorts and crocs!
ReplyDeleteSexy isn't quite the word
DeleteSexy is as sexy does and besides fyi I find you adorably attractive...
DeleteDid someone say CROCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!
DeleteHangs head
DeleteTakes me back to my childhood.
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL.
ReplyDeleteIt was Elstree Studios car park.
ReplyDeleteI have the photo of the bell tower over s shallow ditch
DeleteAlfred Junge was a master painter on glass.
DeleteI miss the sound of church bells! Los Angeles is too large compared to Savannah, GA to have the same effect. Well done you! xo
ReplyDeleteI wanted to go faster and faster.......
DeleteLooks like great fun to me.
ReplyDeleteIt was Andrew ...strangely satisfying
DeleteWonderful stuff. You both look splendid.
ReplyDeleteThe bell sounds true and clear ... thanks for sharing the experience with those of us so far away!
ReplyDeleteHattie is a little bit of a girl ... if she grabbed the rope up higher, she could go for a ride with each pull of the rope. LOL Of course, you would have to pull her back down or she would be dangling in midair!
It's a clear ring out of the mess we are in
DeleteFor a moment I thought Hattie might get lifted off her feet. You made it look so easy, though. Must be those patient-turning muscles. I wonder if I could do as well as either of you!
ReplyDeleteShe's such a sweetie
DeleteLooks harder than you would think. And in crocks.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a fashion queen David
Deletenah, just a queen. and we love you just the way you are!
DeleteThank you, sounded just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSome of the old temples in the mountains of Japan will let you ring the bell with an enormous suspended log....another one for the bucket list?
Not quite but travel is on the list Margaret x
DeleteA real morale booster!
ReplyDeleteYes it was
DeleteGood on both of you well done !!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I thought it would be easier than that!!
ReplyDeleteMe too
DeleteLoved it.
ReplyDeleteWell done, John and Hattie! :) Such a beautiful sound !
ReplyDeleteThere is something almost Primal about a bell toiling in a churchyard. Like a memory you can't put your finger on. It's good to know places still exist where this happens.
ReplyDeleteWell put!
DeleteYes nicely written
DeleteI agree. Well put!
DeleteWell done! I thought Hattie might not be able to keep her feet on the floor :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great (and achievable) bucket list item.
Next one
DeleteThe bell sounding and the ancient stones, it seems soulful and timeless and quite a physical workout too.
ReplyDeleteWell done. It sounds good. Far better than our computerised bell ringing which sounds very 'mechanical'.
ReplyDeleteA dong to be proud of
ReplyDeleteA first for everything Raymondo
DeleteDing dong! ;-)
DeleteWell done dear!!!!!! You look bloody happy as hell! Now you can ring it when supper is ready each night!
ReplyDeleteSounded alright to me, I can't even ring a handbell in tune.
ReplyDeleteThank u all x

DeleteIngmar Bergman. Start filming.
ReplyDeleteIm ready for my close up mr de Mille
DeleteWhat a cool experience. It looks like it's harder than one would think!
ReplyDeleteJust don't more into the bell tower :).
ReplyDeleteI did have a vision of you disappearing up the bell tower . .
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have had a few problems with your bell end. Not pulling hard enough.
ReplyDeleteStory of my life
DeleteThat looks very hard John-and Hattie did really good-I could not not ring that bell I'm sure xx
