The Bells The Bells

Well I must say Deborah Kerr in Black Narcissus made pulling the fuck out of the Great bell on the side of the Himalayas look like a piece of cake.
Hattie and My efforts were all a bit shaky compared to that nun in a heavy habit
As you can see
Great fun !!!!!
One less thing on my bucket list

It's a wonderful sound but also quite a workout! Lovely Hattie may need to gain a bit of weight in order to have enough strength for this endeavor.

So glad the bell has been repaired!

    Hugs!

  10. What an interesting experience! I didn't realize it would be so hard to get it to ring properly. Full time bell ringers must really have some arms on them!

  12. A lovely variation on clapping. I must say that I find the eight o'clock Thursday experience very moving each week. This was a super addition.

  14. Knees bend arms stretch..good workout but I was surprised the noise inside the church was not louder! As I have said before church bells are definitely what I miss living in NZ, that and rooks. Well done to you both but I do agree with Barbara Anne; the lovely Hattie is likely to disappear into the belfry on a big pull of that rope!

  21. The bell sounds true and clear ... thanks for sharing the experience with those of us so far away!
Hattie is a little bit of a girl ... if she grabbed the rope up higher, she could go for a ride with each pull of the rope. LOL Of course, you would have to pull her back down or she would be dangling in midair!

  22. For a moment I thought Hattie might get lifted off her feet. You made it look so easy, though. Must be those patient-turning muscles. I wonder if I could do as well as either of you!

Some of the old temples in the mountains of Japan will let you ring the bell with an enormous suspended log....another one for the bucket list?

  29. There is something almost Primal about a bell toiling in a churchyard. Like a memory you can't put your finger on. It's good to know places still exist where this happens.

  30. Well done! I thought Hattie might not be able to keep her feet on the floor :)

What a great (and achievable) bucket list item.

  31. The bell sounding and the ancient stones, it seems soulful and timeless and quite a physical workout too.

  32. Well done. It sounds good. Far better than our computerised bell ringing which sounds very 'mechanical'.
