Piss Boring Blog

Piss Boring Blog today.
I've started my holiday time by hand cleaning the living room Gaudy Welsh Jugs which are dusty and soot covered after months facing the log burner fire.

The living room paintings have been cleaned too, then carefully placed on the bed in the west wing
In order for me to sugar soap the living room  walls in preparation for painting.

The photographs of nearby Llandudno yesterday
Were sobering .
Please let us all not get angry, or judgemental
But let us all take a little time to reinforce just what social distancing means in real life
Let's teach each other with patience

  2. I have also just cleaned all the soot and dust from our sitting room after many months of an open fire. Turned the rug to the lighter coloured side too. Ready for Spring now.

    1. It's a mildly gritty soap that cuts through any grease or oil on the walls and cleans them ready for re-painting.

Does it contain real sugar and, if so, would it attract ants?

      Wondering ...

    3. Me too! What is the brand?

    4. Sugar soap does not contain sugar, it contains salts. It is used to prepare walls before decorating and cleans off any trace of old wallpaper paste, nicotine etc. It is available in hardware shops in the decorating section and says Sugar Soap on the packets

    6. For North American readers, we have something for a similar purpose called TSP (trisodium phosphate). It will strip kitchen grease off walls, appliances and cupboards like nobody's business.

      Delete
    7. Is TSP toxic? Sugar soap made w salts sounds more benign?

      Delete
    8. TSP is basically salts (trisodium means three salts). I wonder if it's just the same as sugar soap with a different name.

    9. It sounds like just the same thing :-)

  8. You have an enviable amount of energy John! Inspiring stuff. My excuse for not spring cleaning yet is that I'm still lighting woodburner. I see one of Joanne's fantastic teatowels under the lovely jugs, I've got peacock blue, they're excellent

  9. I was feeling people were just too close on Saturday on paths before I got to escape further into the depths.Several times I stood back quite a way and said "we were told to keep our distance"in a nice way.Yesterday the car park were closed and I don't blame them.Today I heard plans are off for my holiday on the south coast too but it just can't be helped.I'm cleaning here and it did need it.My dogs are getting agitated though x

  10. Aside from the occasional, lonely walk outdoors I'm pleased to say that family and friends are very carefully obeying the Social Distancing rules - but we've been doing it now for over a week and those very sobering images from Italy and Spain do drive it home. However, there are still idiots out there so most of us suspect that stronger laws are coming - which is fine by me.
I'm working on the bedroom today - windows washed, furniture wiped down and floors washed! If nothing else we're going to have very clean homes!
I'm supposed to go into the office tomorrow morning for a couple of hours but there are some more announcements coming this morning so might not be doing that!

  11. That picture is disheartening. You do have an incredible amount of energy, and hey, I have one of those tea towels, too! Enjoy transforming your walls and show us the results when you're all done, please. -Jenn

  12. Looks much the same here (in California) from what local news has shown. DH and DS2 working from home for the past week, which will continue for at least another three. I've been working out menus to stretch the food for extra meals at home and reading plenty of novels to stay out of their way. Fresh paint sounds lovely!

  14. Although that's the takeaway part of Pebbles Fish and Chip Shop they should have taken away the outside tables and served chips … to be taken away.

Perhaps the takeaways in seaside resorts should be closed during the day to discourage all those folks who simply don't understand what STAY AT HOME means.

The National Trust haven't helped by opening all their gardens free of charge at the moment to allow people to walk in the fresh air. I understand what they are trying to achieve but the trouble is all those people who have never been before are flooding in because it is free of charge to get in and to park.

If people don't start to take this seriously we will be in a full lockdown situation like Spain.

    1. I understand that the National Trust and many other gardens and parks have now closed, Sue. They could see that people were just not behaving in a responsible way. People don't seem to realise that many of them will catch it, they will infect their loved ones, and people they know and love will die. They are unable to see the bigger picture.

Well done on getting things clean in preparation for painting the sitting room walls. It's one time that not having a huge room is a real boon.

You've got to wonder what people are thinking when they clump together as usual. Perhaps they're not thinking?

One thing I've noticed as how quiet it is outside. Even planes rarely fly over now.

It's raining here, so I won't be washing the windows today.

    Hugs!

  19. Beautiful jugs!
We are on a clean too...it's Spring apart from anything else.
It's no good advising them...it will be the forces out on the streets like Spain and France..then they will have to take heed

  20. I think there are going to be a lot of spring cleaning and decorating over the next few weeks. Hope the warm weather continues it makes the whole situation a bit less depressing with a bit of sun shining.

  21. People don't seem to realise that the longer they refuse to stay home the longer they will have to stay home! My mum who's in her late 80's will not stay home, she's driving us nuts! We've now had to threaten to not see her at all if she doesn't stay in. We're still seeing her a couple of times a week under very controlled and distancing circumstances. People don't seem to be understanding that although they might pull through it ok there's every chance they will pass it along to someone who's much more vulnerable and won't. Well done on getting your head round decorating, I'm finding it hard to settle to anything at the moment. x

  24. Scary pix. Here just about every business has bee closed for a week or more. The restaurants take take out order by phone and you wait on the sidewalk for your food. The little coffee shops in grocery stores have taken away their chairs and blocked off the area with tape. I hope they get the message quickly so the disease doesn't go nuts there. Hugs.

  25. There is a lot of selfishness and greed in the world I’m afraid and there always will be. Let’s hope they see sense very soon. If any of their loved ones had to be hospitalised and there weren’t any beds or ventilators, they would be the first to complain ! We watched the Channel 4 programme about isolating which was good. One doctor said not to go mad with the cleaning, decorating etc etc to start with but to pace yourself so I’m doing as I’m told 😂🤣😂. Take good care of yourself John. XXXX

  30. We are in total lockdown from Wednesday 24/3/2020. Only essential services will be allowed to work. Many people who are set up will work from home. Being one with compromised lung condition I am terrified to catch it. I have already being social distancing. But the supermarkets are diabolical... only trolley length queues...not the required 2 metres. Fortunately from this afternoon I am on booked A/L and I am going no where but my garden which is big enough that I am not near anyone at all. I cannot believe anyone who is not taking this seriously. We in NZ have 102 cases to date. We have watched whilst Italy dies! I have family in the UK and have urged them all to take it seriously. Be safe everyone!

I don't think the country, or indeed the world can afford to be patient with the idiots who can't see that it's not just about them. Some people's stupidity and selfishness knows no bounds.
Your cottage will look fabulous when you've finished.

  37. Love your collection of jugs - such pretty colours. I just about manage to wash up. I have been contemplating dusting but only after hubby has hoovered and that hasn't happened yet. With all this sunshine, the garden has been calling and since I haven't been out there all winter, there is much to be done. Have managed to clear debris, dig over one raised bed and homemade compost has been forked over it. Daredn't plant any seeds yet with the threat of frosts. Maybe next week. Busy inside contacting all my piano pupils to arrange skype lessons. Looks like I will lose half of them for the duration but thankfully most of my daughter's pupils are sticking with her. It's her only income, so it's a great relief. Both our 90+ fathers are coping well with the isolation. We stocked them up just over a week ago and their neighbours have promised help and support. If they ban long journeys we won't be able to visit. All our kids are working from home, apart from one who works in a supermarket, so we hope he's ok.

  38. At least pubs and cafes are closed now. Social distancing goes out of the window in supermarkets. People standing around chatting as per normal and bunched up queues at the checkouts. It's frightening. Distancing needs to be enforced in queues and the checkout staff need to be protected behind screens (nice jugs btw).

While many are cleaning, I am in the garden. I've cut down ornamental grasses, trimmed back shrubs that got a bit large for their space and had a day-long bonfire to rid my property of brush. My second bonfire will be lit before April 1, and in the interim it is being added to. Next up is to plant the tomato seeds a friend gave me. Keeping busy and productive is very satisfying. Susan
