  8. I'd so like to see 'Jamie' too. Sounded good from the very first time it got talked about.

Btw: Why have I never 'cried' in the theatre? I think the nearest I ever got was on seeing 'Les Mis' on each of three visits. Even in the cinema I've only ever come close on, at very most, half a dozen times in my entire life. I wonder if it's a 'gay thing'! ;-)

    1. No, my partner cries at the drop of a hat. He once embarrassed himself whilst reading a book on the bus, he didn't just cry it was wracking great sobs that he couldn't control! The book was The Extraordinary Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Jefferies, I have banned him from reading the follow up Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy, that had me crying from page 13!

    2. Well, I've definitely never come near crying at a book, Su - the nearest I get is when reading Shakespeare (which I do every day) when I'm repeatedly so overwhelmed at his imagery and command of language that I'm astonished over and over again reflecting "How could anyone have thought of THAT!!" But that's more of a cerebral response rather than the emotional one to which your partner is subject. I in no way think it's any sign of weakness. In fact any 'lack' is in myself as I (as well as my three brothers, though unlike for my sister) were all brought up to keep our emotions hidden inside rather than to show them - most unhealthy, as it turned out. It's something I regret and quite envy those men who, like your other half as well as JayGee, are in no way embarrassed by letting it out, as I fear I would still be.
I've not heard of that Rachel Jefferies book (nor of her, in fact) but am intrigued enough to want to give it a try just to see what happens - after all I do live alone, and I shouldn't think any of my cats would give two hoots if they saw me crumple up into tears. :-)
Many thanks for your response, though.

    3. Sorry, I got her name wrong, it's Rachel Joyce. I have a couple of paperbacks I could pop in the post if you fancy reading them, but they may not be highbrow enough.

    4. Not to worry, Su. I see there are a number of her books available through Amazon at reachable prices. I'll keep her in mind. Thanks anyway.
