I have now turned my car radio to radio 4 now on my morning commute
I cannot abide the all-too-early Christmas songs blaring out
To me Christmas songs on the radio should only start around the 20th
I'm on a one off night shift tonight...
My friend John from Sheffield rang me earlier and told me to get my Christmas lights up
" You need to get yourself going!" He said kindly
The postman gave me a shove in the same direction when he dropped off a bundle of cards
He's a new postie who looks a cheerful soul,
As did the cards he delivered

No Xmas lights this year but will display a wreath and a small tree, string of xmas cards and stockings.
ReplyDeleteThere's nowt like an image of Jack Nicholson in "The Shining" to lift one's Christmas spirits. I agree with you that December 20th is about the right time to start Christmas fuss. This year the country will be getting the most godawful Christmas gift ever - Horrible "Get Brexit Dung" Johnson as prime minister. Very depressing.
ReplyDeleteThat new postie doesn't know what he's in for!
ReplyDeleteStill too early for lights. It's still Advent! Fourth Sunday of Advent is about right - that's the 22nd. Keep them up until Epiphany (Jan 6) so you can enjoy them throughout the Christmas season. There's something about celebrating particular days at their proper time that's very satisfying.
ReplyDeleteSince dozens of houses round here have put up Christmas decorations, I'm now sending my Christmas cards and I don't care if they're "too early" for some.
ReplyDeleteIs Jack Nicholson the only bizarre or original card received so far? Yours, disappointed. And Debra's quite right!
I love the Christmas carols John- I have classic fm on day and night and I'm sure it helps the dogs relax.Started to design a card for you last week but it's a mess and I have given up- and "the shining"always gives me the willies! x
ReplyDeleteLucky girl getting the Willies. I'd be happy just getting a sniff of one.
DeleteMavis,if I was ever to be offered one again which is unlikely,I would happily pass it on to you x
DeleteI'm not sure said willy would appreciate my manhandling. You keep it for yourself x
DeleteOn second thought,I think I may thankyou Mavis-it could be Craig Davids and I do quite like Him x
DeleteCreepy Jack Nicholson for Christmas?? That one may be the winner but I really like the glimpse of Holly and Ivy!
ReplyDeleteAm glad your new postie is cheerier than the last one.
I'm okay with Christmas songs and decorations after December starts but am disgusted to hear the songs in shops in late September, October, and November. Puleeeze!
Hugs!
Yea ! I see a Christmas Scotty card !
ReplyDeleteMine go out tomorrow.
parsnip
the cheerful postman might go postal soon!
ReplyDeleteLove the xmas cards!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right, xmas music should start on the 20th and end on the 25th. Any more is just torture.
XoXo
Posted mine this morning.X
ReplyDeletecards are my favourite thing about Christmas - but don't think I could stand that horrible face - I would have to hide it behind another one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely assortment of cards John and I like the cheery bunch of flowers on the table makes for a welcoming scene. I don't do Christmas well, tired of the music and happy families on the Hallmark daily TV
ReplyDeleteshows where every family lives in a mansion and more presents under the tree then the size of my kitchen what what are the poor children supposed to compare that to.
christmas starts to burst forth here on the 21st when we celebrate solstice with lots of light
ReplyDeleteDon't Christmas lights or cards here.
ReplyDeleteThe story goes that the old postman had a bit of a breakdown when he heard you had requested Christmas cards. He may be back after he rests up a tad.....

ReplyDeleteSince I never get cards in the numbers that I send them, I have cut down on the people that I send cards to.
ReplyDeletePeople who mean more to me ...
I sent 20 cards.
Yesterday I got 1.
Now , if cats could send Christmas cards...everything would be different.
I do zero decorating for any holiday. It's just what I prefer. I don't like the accumulation of decorations in storage and I don't enjoy the actual decorating. I love seeing what others have done though. I also suspect that in the future if I find myself with grandchildren, that I may warm up to enjoying decorating again. For now though I'm a plain Jane I guess!!
ReplyDeleteWe had the Christmas songs on all day at work yesturday, my head was banging when i got home. Its too early for me yet, my tree isnt up. I need to write my cards and wrap pressies this week.
ReplyDeleteI get a tree up and that's just so there is somewhere to put the presents. I don't do Christmas well at all.
