I bought new work shoes yesterday
Plain black supermarket shoes
My smart trainers, though bloody comfy
Are not regulation
One of my new colleagues thought they looked like " calliper shoes" with built up heels
Ive walked in them for 13 hours
And am presently soaking my feet in a washing up bowl solution of Epsom salts
My bed is calling
It's singing this song
At the top of it's mighty unmade voice
Plain black supermarket shoes

I havent seen that in years! I used to watch those two many years ago and loved them. Must have been on the tele. God - dont make em like that any more. Thanks John.xxx
ReplyDeleteMe too Jill ! Showing our age !
Deletei'm guessing crocs are not allowed?
ReplyDeleteMy husband would sing that song with way too much Nelson Eddy drama and I would laugh till I cried. Which was always his goal.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me .... a lovely memory
Your poor feet!
ReplyDeleteI wear "calliper shoes" and wearing the same expensive ugly shoe everyday is bad enough without people saying stuff like that
Nurses have a strange sense of humour
DeleteThe only regulation we have on footwear is no open heels. I've got black, white, multicoloured. Ecco walking shoes are my favourite.
ReplyDeleteI now spend most of my day on my feet and cover about 22k steps each day. I need my feet to feel comfortable, in a fit of disgust with all shoe shops. I slopped off to clarks to try on every pair. I wailed to the shop assistant. She smiled and came back with a pair of shoes that she said all the nurses wore its called UnStructured. I call them my ugly French lady shoe as it resembles the shoes that must have been in fashion one year we were in France. They do them for both men and women. I have 2 pairs I rotate. and neither smell. They feel a little like slippers and I love them. Although they are ugly as sin for women. The mens look a lot better
ReplyDeleteYep i wear unstructured by clarks really comfy. Really ugly and expensive but would not wear anything else at work.
DeleteYou could do worse than forking out a few quid on these to help your foul trotters

Golly.
ReplyDeleteThere’s nothin* better than getting home and getting out of work clothes!
I’m also standing most of the day, but I wear comfy soles inside my Doc Martens 😎.
If you sing like that to me, I’d even give you a foot massage, dearheart.
XoXo
I have reached the point in life that shoes must be comfortable. I feel for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope the shoes break in quickly. What exactly are supermarket shoes anyway - shoes bought at the supermarket or shoes to be worn by supermarket workers??
ReplyDeleteDo you have Rocky Walkers by Rockport over there? That's what I used to sneak through when I worked for the Park Service. They looked enough like the regulation shoes to pass, but were so much better. Which was huge as we were on our feet all the time. The uniform issue shoes would about cripple you.
ReplyDeleteSurely you have broken in those black clodhoppers. They will be more comfortable from now on but they will need polishing every day.
ReplyDeleteReally ? Supermarket shoes ? John's nurse feet need nurse shoes xx
ReplyDeleteOh god, my sister and I used to love to imitate Nelson Eddy and Jeannette McDonald doing this song! As for the shoes, I assume “supermarket shoes” are shoes you purchased at a supermarket?
ReplyDeleteOne of my first movie memories with my older sister.
ReplyDeleteNow.....go and get some comfortable good shoes for yourself! You deserve it mister man!
Haven't thought of Nelson and Jeanette for years and years.
ReplyDeleteUS Television...TBS /Turner Broadcast or PBS
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a new pair of "sneaker" type shoes, memory foam inners soft on my feet.... I wore them when I was helping a client shower and fortunately he had a towel rail in his bathroom ... he looked at my feet and said..."you look like you are moon walking". The bloody soles of the shoes; although rubber, are absolutely useless in a wet bathroom... we had a hoot that day as I was trying to help him to transfer from the shower chair to wheel chair! Get good shoes... it helps!
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
Just be thankful you're not expected to wear high heels all day. That must be purgatory. About time work dress codes were a bit more flexible.
ReplyDeleteGet some comfy smart black shoes from Hotter, on the high street in Llandudno. A bit costly but comfortable as hell for a day on your feet. They also do smart black trainers that you might get away with.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing worse than tired aching feet at the end of the working day ☹️
I agree with all who said you must get better shoes right away. It's no good trying to smile and be caring when your feet are screaming.
ReplyDeleteNelson Eddy and Jeanette McDonald (Mac?) predate me.
Hugs!
I think that comfy insoles make a difference, even to my wellies x
