The House Concert and Red Dragon

Andrew Waite

I have never been to a house concert before, but I am told they are quite common in the folk world where talented singers and musicians put on a gig in someone's house for a donation!
I adored my first time.
I've never before put the word  "enjoyment" and "accordion " in the same sentence either but after listening to two hour of French Jazz, Traditional Scottish  jigs and reels and some lovely songs by a a real Scottish pro Andrew Waite.. I am now a real convert.
It was wonderful watching a guy at the top of his game
The venue was a cottage perhaps 500 metres from my own and I knew twelve people out of the audience of fifteen which was nice. We had tea and cake in the interval and I've been invited to another gig later this month! What fun!

And now a quick thank you
Yesterday I received a parcel in the post by the bad tempered postman! It was from Janice who apparently has enjoyed reading through the archives of Going Gently with some relish
She reminded me of a blog I wrote nine years ago!
It was about a story of my affection for a simple garden ornament, a pair of Welsh Dragons who always stood either side of a path  in my Grandmother's garden,

I complained in the blog that although, I loved the dragons I never got to own one and Janice in her travels remembered my lament......

And so she sent me this

My own Welsh Dragon
How kind x

  3. I've been to a couple of house concerts over the years and they were fun! One couple I know even incorporated a special space into the house they were building just so they could accommodate more house concerts!

  10. I have been to concerts in people's homes, and on many occasions in small rooms above pubs. I love live music, and prefer it to be as intimate as possible.

  13. Some years ago we were invited to what I suppose was a " house concert". It was a world class cellist ( can't remember the name)who was trying out a new programme. It was wonderful sitting just a few feet from him!
Love the dragon....now you need another for the other side of the path!!

How delightful to now be part of your local house concert circle! More music in your life is a good thing.

What a lovely person Janice must be to find and send you the perfect-for-you dragon. Sweet.

It does seem that the winds have changed to bring good things your way: new job, new friends, unexpected fun and gifts, new dog, new duvet, and now a dragon. At last!!

    Hugs!

Love your dragon. Very kind of Janice to think of you. House concert does sound fun. How nice you are being included in the invite list. Must be a word of mouth event as I’m sure spaces limited. Glad all is well with you.

  29. Oh, I would have love that concert. Thanks for sharing it. And How kind of Janice. I’ve been reminded over this past year especially that there ARE people in this world who are purely kind. Janice is obviously one of those. You are, too... even if you don’t readily admit it.
