Dorothy

The first time Winnie arrived at Bwthyn y llan
She was shy and frightened and slid across the threshold on her stomach

Today Dorothy did the same , albeit a little bit quicker and carry a third the old girl's weight.
She's  a small and rather pretty 2 year old bulldog with an eager smile and a bounce in her step

  3. I would be worried about bitches fighting as I have always been told they fight to the death if they take a dislike to each other. All Rescues I have every been to would not rehome 2 bitches together.
I will be very interested how you get on.

  4. She's beautiful. Looks like Mary has a new playmate to romp with while sedate Winnie looks on as referee and stink eye. A new breath of life in the old cottage. Is she yours to keep or a foster? X

  5. She is lovely and will do well. A nice fit for your two. If the hormones get out of hand give all the dogs a squirt of talcum powder on their rear ends. Makes them all smell the same and whilst not stopping all out war it does reduce it. It has worked well with all my animals. I was told by a lady who used to look after strays about this tactic some years ago. Wishing you well John. Now its special time with each but times three. Tricia x

  6. I was told and it always seemed true that two females compete for life. The only time two females worked for us was when one was very alpha and the other was very submissive, but it was never to the death or even bad enough for a trip to the vet. I would imagine the bull dog would be quite strong? I still say cute as a button! Good luck John, I hope it goes well because I know she's in a good home.

  7. I do wish you luck but I think it's love that's going to win out.
    Eventually.
    Dorothy is a darling.

  8. Dorothy is darling---and tiny! Is she a miniature bulldog or will she grow larger like Winnie? I'm not sure if you're fostering or adopting but she will have a loving happy home with you.

Your plate and food presentation are beautiful. Enjoy!

  9. Good grief, Dorothy really is tiny isn't she? I hope it all goes well, I am more than slightly envious, current dog Betty is likely to be my last pet, for many, many reasons and although she's a pain, I absolutely dread her death. She is about 12 now, so who knows how long she has left?

  24. That's a great video! The two dogs sizing each other up, Winnie's intervention, and, to my American ears, your very UK narration. You have a wonderful voice!

  26. Young bulldogs can be very athletic. I remember staying at my friend's house in Utrecht. I slept on the sofa bed on the ground floor, and they had to put a baby gate up to stop their young bulldog from bounding in on me in the night. In the morning, I had to move out of the way sharpish as she liked to run the length of the hallway into the room and do a flying bellyflop onto the sofa. I witnessed her do it one evening outside, when we took her for a walk in the snow while riding the bike, and she enthusiastically threw herself at, and demolished, some kid's snowman.
Good luck to you & your best china.

  28. I'm just catching up with several days of blogs, and what a lot has happened. I loved seeing the happy photo of you and John and also the video of Dorothy's introduction to your household. With Winnie's oversight, they'll be forced to behave, won't they? We once had a dog labeled "the hall monitor" at the place where we boarded our dogs when we were out of town. He wouldn't tolerate bad behavior between dogs, but he handled it a bit like Winnie.

  39. I wish you lots of luck, but with the amount of love you will get, things should be just fine.

I love how dogs have their own roles in 'the pack'. Charley used to our peacemaker, from day one even with all the others being so much bigger, she would step between sparring, open jawed dogs and stop a fight dead in it's tracks.

  40. OMG I love the snorts and bouncing around. They are adorable. Best of luck to you.
Seems like the Matriarch has it all under control, I hope...:)
