The winner of the " this is me" competition is this photo.
I won't give the name of the entrant , suffice to say that I loved their honesty at sharing this as a description of self...warts and all.

  1. Excellent choice. I remember seeing that photo and thinking, Oh, yes, I get this.

  4. Thank you John for running this competition, I have been thoroughly enjoying the photos, what a clever idea!
Again if I lived closer, I would give you a hug. I mentioned before that my close friends were surprised because I cried when they told me they were splitting up, I was really close to them and it felt like a death to me.

I've been down that road twice, John. Next week I turn 76 (yikes) and I have survived and flourished and, dear John, so will you! OnWard and upward!
    Hugs from Colorado 😊

  12. Cats (and dogs, but particularly cats) have a very wide-eyed and intense stare, don't they? It's like they're staring right into your soul.

Well done to the comp winner....that could be my husband's picture....and, to a lesser extent, me. It's an unfortunate part of growing older.

Here's to the start of your new era, John xx

  16. Apart from a lot of other positive adjectives that could be applied to you it was so WISE of you to share this last years road instead of retreating into a ‘cave’

The end of one era is the beginning of anothsr. But it takes a size man to recognise an end, and a mature one to keep moving forwards with love and hope, despite a battered heart. You are a special person, our John. Onwards and upwards!

  19. It has all been said above......I am with them all and hope that your new era that is beginning will be a great one. Sending hugs too XX

  20. This horrible year will fade in your memory, like similar times have for many of us, and you will be able to look back and smile a little, at the not-all-good, not-all-bad times that life is made up of. Good Luck in the new job!

  21. The winning entry? I totally respect why you chose it. But it's pretty depressing. Mind you of the two, to me outstanding, entries which would have been a draw, someone might equally say "how sad" - except to me they aren't. Funny old world what speaks to one, what speaks to another.

Anyway, and probably the best part, these "contests" will give you an insight as to your individual readers. Have to agree with Rachel's recent comment though, and I am sure most your readers will too if they are honest, it would be nice to know the identity of each entry. Put it down to natural curiosity about each other.

    1. I see no reason to have published them. It must have been of interest for him to see his readers images of themselves. Without names or captions they were just meaningless pictures for the rest of us. So someone sees themselves as a pile of pills.

  22. It's a topic relevant in our household right now. Both of us live in pain and my response is to take the pills but it doesn't define who I am!!! If it did we'd be begging on the streets. So while I really get it, I'm also frankly so OVER pain and illness being the main topic of conversation.

I could have sent the same picture, although mine don't look so pretty as they are all white.

As Sue says, perfect timing. No more limbo, your way is clear-cut.

  32. Congratulations to the winner and commiserations, too. I don't know what all the pills are, although the little red one looks suspiciously like the migraine medication I have needed since my second brain surgery. I thought that my stellar adherence to healthy eating and exercise and good thoughts was going to make me immune to the health issues that come as we age. A diagnosis of several auto-immune illnesses and two brain surgeries later, I'm properly humbled but still happy to be here. Life is good. I'm having a great time, feeling greater freedom to be quirky old me than I ever have, and I hope the winner is, too. I hope that you, John, are beginning to look forward to the next part of your journey.

I liked the competition showing such a wide diverse group of people and interests all drawn together through your blog.

  37. The compositions were clever, and a few sad, or at least pensive. I preferred the lovely faces of people. Kind smiles were abundant. Makes me wish I could get to know those lovely people beyond your blog.

  38. I don't remember this one I was looking at faces. But how interesting and creative for the winner to think of putting on that. Thanks for posting who you decided was the winner !!
