Mary and I having lunch out
It shows the panoramic views around Trelawnyd on a day which is much like today.
Now it is said that Offa's Dyke runs through the most Eastern part of the village before commencing it's drop to the coastal plain at Prestatyn.
For those that don't know Offa's Dyke is not a local celebrity lesbian but it is a huge linear earthwork built in the years following 757 AD. The earthwork is approximately 177 miles long and roughly follows the border between England and Wales
It is named after King Offa who was the Anglo Saxon Kind of Mercia.
My School was originally called Clawdd Offa which is aWelsh translation
Lots to do today as the garden needs a blitz
Off to have breakfast at the coffee morning, now. I need to hand in my entry form for the flower Show
Don't overdo it in the garden. You wouldn't want to end up with backache and nobody there to massage you tonight except a dog.
ReplyDeleteThat's what we think, Rachel. I reckon all that cleaning yesterday was for the party tonight...
DeleteThanks for reminding me I have no one to rub it rachel
DeleteI am very down to earth
DeleteToo much sometimes if the truth be known
DeleteBeautiful, beautiful countryside around Trelawnyd, I'm really envious. Taking Mary for a run up that hill once a day would be more pleasurable than dieting, and get you fit!
ReplyDeletePoint taken charlotte x
DeleteSmile and wave when you see the drone overhead.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to buy one David
DeleteThe heading would make a good cryptic crossword clue (4).
ReplyDeletePretty soon they are going to have to rebuild it.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that is due to Global Warming?
DeleteNo. It is to do with Brexit. In a few weeks time there will probably be a 40% tariff on Welsh lamb imported to France, even under World Trade agreements. Either Wales will have to break off from the rest of the U.K. and remain in Europe, or farmers will have to slaughter all their sheep and try to find jobs in towns. Offa's Dyke was to keep the Welsh out of England (or vice versa) during the Dark Ages. We are just about to enter a new Dark Age.
DeleteOh I forgot. Boris will make a really good deal with Japan in under six weeks.
DeleteI thought it might be but wasn't sure.
DeleteThe EU have just struck a Beef deal with South America for the South Americans to supply us with beef. I just remembered it while washing the car.
DeleteOf course they have. It is called 'future proofing', and it is to supply them with beef, not us. They are looking into the not-too-distant future and making plans for us leaving. The market will not be there for us soon, and the U.S. has plenty of their own beef.
DeleteYou were also warned right from the beginning that the E.U. were not going to make it easy for us, but still remained optimistic.
DeleteIt is to import beef from S America to here.
DeleteYou light the touchpaper
DeleteIt's lovely to know that we have got a bouncer on the door to keep the riff raff out. Be warned random invaders, for behind her sweet smile hides a mean right hook.
ReplyDeletecannot view it
ReplyDeleteYou can open it in YouTube. Beautiful countryside!
DeleteExultation is a word I would use for the video and you John. 'This is Home' song how it must ring quietly in the air.
ReplyDeleteIt does look quite beautiful Thelma doesn't it?
DeleteOffa's Dyke almost ran through our garden when it skirted Oswestry. It was our daily walk.
ReplyDeleteHow do you remember it?
DeleteWonderful. In certain places there were stone chairs carved into the path-side rocks. When my people owned the cottage (1960's), very few walkers went by; in fact I don't remember seeing any. I imagine that has now changed
DeleteI just completed this walk and loved it. Amazing scenery, especially from Llangollen northwards. When I passed by Trelawynd, Gop Hill was on my right-hand side, so the path runs through the western side of the village, surely? I didn't see anything of Trelawynd itself, though I did make a diversion to the very pleasant Eagle & Child pub at Gwaenysgor a bit later. Have you thought of doing the walk yourself, John?
ReplyDeleteThere is sone debate just where the dyke runs around the village
DeleteYes....some places it disappears completely
DeleteHow interesting! That certainly was a catchy title for this blog post. You do need to write that book, you know. Blog titles can become your chapter headings.
ReplyDeleteWhere would Trelawnyd be on the map?
Ta for the video of Trelawnyd from the air. The views and the music were lovely. Lucky you to live there!
Hugs!
Right in the north near the sea ( 2 miles as crow flies)
DeleteDoes it look similar to Hadrian's Wall?
ReplyDeleteNo. In many places it more resembles a large ditch
DeleteThis is just the best post today ! You live in a most beautiful area and of course the history. I must look up Offa's Dyke now.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started blogging I had a map of the UK and would mark places that I learned about through blog friends. Armchair traveling.
Mary looks so sweet. Such good manners.
parsnip
The unsmiling slow barista gave her a dog chew which she politely refused , then brought her a bowl of water which was placed on the chair seat next to her
DeleteI was sitting in a small tea garden at Cerne Abbas with my dogs and when the waitress bought the tray with tea and scones to the table she kindly offered gravy bone biscuits for the dogs-my top dog was furious, wasn't at all grateful,he wouldn't stop barking and we had to make a hurried exit x
Delete"Video Unavailable" - "It's outrageous!" grumbles A.Peabrain of Tunbridge Wells. As for King Offa, I thought that was a deal you could get at Discount Beds.

DeleteYes, yes, this is all lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt is
DeleteI walked about 12 miles along Offa's Dyke some years ago with my dogs.I think it was there we had to cross a very high wobbly bridge and saw an eagle x
ReplyDeleteMary is a beautiful girl. Loved the video. Trelawnyd is picturesque. I would love to go wandering and exploring the countryside. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI've seen some big dykes in my time but Offa takes the buiscuit
ReplyDeleteOffa's Dyke... biggest Lesbian in Wales... you are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI know
DeleteSo do we.
DeleteAbsolutely here for the dyke joke! :D
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed Wales from above what a lovely area you live in. Mary sure gets to live the good life going out for tea.
ReplyDeleteN. Wales is surprisingly flat. Sadly not much footage of the actual village...I had hoped to see you waving!.
ReplyDeletewe are 500 some feet about the coastal plain
Deleteflat we are not lol
DeleteWe are definitely not flat here in North Wales!! I'm developing one leg shorter than the other walking round our hillside home 🤣🤣
DeleteSuch a disappointment! I was hoping for lesbians!
