I'm knackered
Out at 6.45 am back at 20.45pm
One of three consecutive shifts
Everyone Welcoming
Mary hysterical when I returned
Winnie blew me a kiss from the doorway
I bought them a packet of Swedish meatballs
And we sat quietly together until I fell asleep watching the start of Bake Off
But not before Prue said to Noel " I'm dribbling"
There seems to be too many homosexuals on it this year!
But at lest the smutty entendres are startling
Very glad to hear it went well John
ReplyDeletehave a good sleep!
ReplyDeleteGoing gently...with swedish meatballs...
ReplyDeleteCongrats John, the first day of your life and all that!
xoxo
Get to bed...and SLEEP!
ReplyDeleteAll's well that ends well x
ReplyDeleteGlad the first step and day is over with and so glad everyone welcoming. Makes a real difference. Mary is missing you as is Winnie its all change on routines and they don't like change very much. Missy (our Jack Russell) hates being away from us and she gets all hysterical too. Remember its unconditional love - the best type to experience so you are doing something very very right. Sweet dreams Pattypan x
ReplyDeleteIt's going to take awhile for all of you to adjust. As you know.
ReplyDeleteIs "doorway" another term for "arse"? Well done on completing such a very long shift! That was a baptism of fire.
ReplyDeleteHomosexuals are over-represented everywhere these days, in my not so humble opinion. Throw a stick into the cafe of Broadcasting House and you will hit a screaming homo every time.
ReplyDeleteIf there are so many of them about, perhaps they aren't over-represented.
DeleteIt can only get easier????
ReplyDeleteThat's a long-ass day! And having to learn all new names, locations and whatnot must make your brain as tired as your body. At least you can sleep when it's dark!
ReplyDeleteNothing to do but tough it out, sleep and work, sleep and work. 4 days to recover presumably before the next lot. As you know your body and brain will acclimatize and you will learn how to pace yourself. Plan a whacking great treat for yourself for completing the first month. Put it on the calendar now in big letters.
ReplyDeleteyou survived your first day! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, John, REALLY! There can NEVER be too many homosexuals on Bake Off! We are currently watching last season's series here in Canada.
ReplyDeleteGlad your first day at the new job went well! Have a good night's sleep!
So pleased it went well. Sleep tight! Tomorrow will be easier x
ReplyDeleteIf Bake-Off didn't have Gays on it there would be few contestants worthy to be on the show IMO... and I'm a Food Network Junkie so that just would not do! Your Baptism by Fire on the new Career Path means adjustments there and on the Home front but it will be no time before you're settled in.
ReplyDeleteThe first day is always the longest, and fastest. Rest.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of a very, very long day, there is no place like home.
ReplyDeleteAlmost like it's your first day at school! Well it's that time of year lol. Hope everything works out for you.
ReplyDeleteAww, I thought of you all day long today, and couldn't help but think, I bet he's wore out...
ReplyDeleteTwelve hour nursing shifts are the worse.
I bet those fur-babies wondered what happened to you .
Hugs,
~Jo
I like the smell.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first day! There will be an adjustment period but no doubt you will do great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a long day. Have a good night’s rest. 1 shift down, 2 to go. Then you get 4 days off. Not bad at all.
ReplyDeleteMercy! 12 hour shift? That's no fun at all. Hope they use the Baylor system where you work 3 twelve hour shifts one week, 4 twelve hour shifts the next and so on so ever fifth week you have a week and both weekends off. Yes?
ReplyDeleteWe don't like Bake Off since Mary Berry, Mel, and Sue left. Prue and those others just irritate me. Not the bakers, of course. Prue and the Mel and Sue poor replacements are the irritants. In our (DH and me) opinions, even the baking challenges are not up to par as they used to be during the first four seasons.
Sweet dreams!
Hugs!
Sweet dreams, of sugarplums or Swedish meatballs or dribbling baked goods...
ReplyDeleteGosh thats a long shift, and especially when you are starting somewhere new. However, you know it will settle and help you stay in the village. Hopefully you slept well.
ReplyDeleteI hope Bake-Off continues with its Sunday repeats. It's good to have something to follow on TV.
ReplyDeleteYou had better get a couple of Scotch Eggs (sod the diet) in the fridge for a start; then plenty of cuddles with the four legs and then plenty of sleep and you'll soon be yourself again. Every time I woke in the night I thought about you and wondered how your day had gone.
ReplyDeleteAnd Tom -I must say - you disappoint me.
That is a very long day. I can't stand Bake off !
ReplyDeleteI hope you slept well x
Three day week is a godsend for you.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever considered a career as a spin doctor, Rachel? My question not being sarky; it's sincere. Myself being the eternal optimist, and rather irritating to those of other persuasions, I think (positive) spin is underrated.
DeleteU
I wasn't complaining I was Justin's I was tired
DeleteWhen did you last do 12.5 hour shifts rachel
I didn't think you were complaining, nor did I say you were. It was just an observation that I reckoned that is good for you with the dogs. Thinking out loud.
DeleteIn that you only have to leave them three days and not five days.
DeleteThat's a long shift, glad the staff were welcoming John.
ReplyDeleteYou survived! You'll soon get into the routine.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your first day went well. My 'gaydar' has never been good so I have no idea as yet who's who. Had a fit of the giggles over Paul's 'furry/fairy garden confusion though 😄
ReplyDeleteJohn,jj when I first saw your title I was worried that somehow the job situation had become fucked. But no, you were merely physically, well, fucked and the job had gone well which I was immensely pleased to read about.
ReplyDeleteFuckin' pleased in fact. (such a useful word, hey ;-))
I am just glad to hear you were welcomed so well into the new job. May you enjoy it for as long as you need the work.
.....and sleep ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. x
ReplyDeleteThe shifts these days seem a bit more human than when I was at work. Five x 12 hour shifts in a week, days or nights. No wonder I was ready for slowing down when I hit the 55 mark. You will get used to it.
ReplyDeleteJohn's shifts are more human? Working a 12 hour shift for even one day is hard. Add to that his travelling time and he was out of the house for 14 hours. I don't think that is something to make light of. Looking at your blog - wasn't your job driving? I don't think John would have done much sitting down. We should applaud any nurse, they work hard.

DeleteLeaving aside TWELVE (in numbers: 12) hours per shift, are you required to do alternate days and nights on a rota? Only asking because I do believe that round the clock shifts can play havoc with one's health, not to mention sleep. Once upon a time, nothing to do with work, my sleep pattern was wrecked to the point of heading towards the untenable. Unnoticed by me. But not my doctor. He told me, in no uncertain terms, that sleep deprivation (I managed to clock up about three to four hours in every twenty four) will, eventually, simulate symptoms of being permanently drunk and, possibly, lead to an unscheduled episode of psychosis. I don't know where I do find my doctors, John, but I have to hand it to them: Despite the fact that they are British they do NOT mince their words. Facts are facts. Even if they are brutal facts.
ReplyDeleteIn good news: I do sleep, once more, like the proverbial baby. Though where that saying comes from is a mystery to me since all babies I know have a habit of waking every 2.5 hours round the clock.
All the best, hope I haven't exhausted you,
U
Well done John, pleased you survived the long haul ! Hope you have found the perfect job and the animals get used to the routine too.x
ReplyDeleteAww so glad your first shift in your new job has gone well and that everyone was welcoming. Any new job is knackering but you'll soon get use to the change.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your title ... I thought you got screwed over. Over here, getting “Fucked” is usually pretty bad. Glad you mean that you are tuckered out after a very long day. Hope your new job is all you hope it to be.
ReplyDeleteCali G
The first shift is the hardest, soon you'll find the groove. However, there simply CANNOT be too many queers on the GBBO!
ReplyDeleteGlad your first day went well!
