Shit piping but the cake will be good
My nephew collected Bluebell for her full service this morning so I am effectively marooned for the day in the village.
Not that I mind.
The garden is overgrown and battered due to the rain recently and is in need of some attention as is the field which now resembles a jungle . Affable despot Jason and his big boys power tools will be helping me sort that out one evening soon
Trendy Carol ( sporting a motif t shirt, jeans and a nice leather jacket) called round to collect Mary for a play gallop with her Welsh terrier Seren.
She's offered to take Winnie too but the big girl is flat out on the couch.
I've promised to make two cakes for Bridget's tea tent for tomorrow's carnival too.
I'll do those later.( see above a postdated photo)
Fuck I've just realised that I've got no jam....I will go and bum some from Animal Helper Pat. She always has a well stocked larder
Dr Barnsley has just rode up the lane on his bike. He always seems to be in first gear, with feet pushing the peddles like Billyo , but never seems to get anywhere fast...
Lots of teenage school kids have been passing the cottage all morning . They seem to be on some sort of orienteering event.
Every little group of them have bid me a greeting when they passed the garden.
The youth of today eh?
I had to check on Google what it marooned, sounds scary, but the post I liked.
ReplyDeleteI’m loving your country style garden. All that colore and all those textures!
ReplyDeleteAnd you cook, too? You always surprise me, John.
XoXo
I bake.better than i cook
DeleteA lovely secluded spot. Any offers on the cottage yet?
ReplyDeleteVery kind nephew... and neighbors. And garden spot!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a perfect day to me - garden time and some baking! Enjoy! -Jenn (you should feature Trendy Carol in a post someday - as fashion inspiration for the rest of us!)
ReplyDeleteA theoretical question... Can you stay there? Fingers crossed you can.
ReplyDeleteLXX
Watch this space x
DeleteYou have wonderful, caring neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of that corner John - good coffee spot.
ReplyDelete"Good day Squire Gray!"...Yes. Young people do get an unfair press these days. Most of them are decent, cheerful and kind.
ReplyDeletethe cake looks great. i love the look of a homemade cake. your garden spot is so inviting. it's sweet that all of the kids said hello.
ReplyDeleteThe youth of today are bloody brilliant, they just get a bad rap because only the bad ones appear on the news and in the papers.
ReplyDeleteLoving the sound of your marooned day, we all need one of those every now and then 🙂
Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a day from a famous five book. All you need now is a mystery to solve lol. x
ReplyDeleteHaha.....there was one
DeleteSounds like a perfectly perfect day in the village of Trelawnyd.
ReplyDeleteSit back with a good book with your feet up....soaking in the silence.
ReplyDeleteThe chairs and table look very inviting x
ReplyDeleteSounds perfick. It's nice to be marooned sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI had to google "orienteering". I never heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to be marooned for a day. The garden looks beautiful and just right for a cuppa at the table where you can enjoy the silence, bring some music out with you, or make your own music.
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks wonderful. What flavor is it?
Hugs!
Lovely looking cake, that fondant icing is fiendish stuff to get right on a square cake! Most of today's youth (like most of the oldies) are more than OK. I must also do some gardening, there are too many pots sitting on what a family member rudely terms 'death row'...with some truth!
ReplyDeleteHave fun tomorrow. Weather forecast is fine for Saturday, more rain and thunderstorms likely Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThe Youth of Today eh John. I often meet them walking to Comp in a morning when I walk with Tess - they are an affable lot and almost all say hello. Does me good having been a teacher.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, there are so many fine young people out there. They are smart and engaged and caring.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cake! I recently bought coconut to make a special cake, got home and realized I didn't have enough butter or milk - gah - the cake isn't made yet! Maybe today, as it's raining and a bit cooler.
A wonderful day if you ask me but I love to spend time at home. That's a beautiful cake!
ReplyDeleteI love days when I am forced through circumstances to stay home. :::rest easy:::
ReplyDeleteXO From Ruth in Oxnard CA. USA
I join you with my feet sorta up.
ReplyDeleteHome is where I want to be all the time, but being marooned without transportation is a bit different. You've used the day beautifully - your cake is outstanding! I would never want to leave your cottage or your garden. I hope with all my heart that you can stay there. Thanks for the new word - I'd never heard of "orienteering."
ReplyDeleteYou need the. Best of both worlds me thinks
DeleteAs much as I adore Affable Jason please don't let him loose on your meadow. Sometimes it's best to just let nature be.
ReplyDeleteFor your eyes and ears only: On the, luckily rare, occasions that I wake at that dastardly hour of about 3 in the morning, unable to go back to sleep because some ear worm type thought keeps rummaging, going round and round the sludge (my brain), I apply my trusted mantra: Meadow. I remember and walk the meadows of my earliest childhood. ... And drift off ... happily ... soothed ... into more sleep.

No field should be left unattended
DeleteIt's just foolish to do so
PS John, here is a great way of getting "marooned". You can't find your house keys ... so you can't leave the house lest you lock yourself out. Voluntarily. When I phoned to cancel the appointment the receptionist said: "And I thought I'd heard them all [excuses].This is a new one." Oh, did we laugh. Nothing more ridiculous than the truth.
ReplyDeleteStill, it's a great way of "time out" (unless you are claustrophobic). However, if you'd like to know I will let you, there is a way of this never ever happening again.

Marooned sounds pretty good to me. And marooned in your particular far from desert island even better. LOVE that garden.
ReplyDeleteIt's wild
DeleteThe icing on the cake may be uneven but it looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteMadeira sponge with raspberry jam
DeleteGreat story telling about village life and the people who live there it sounds so idyllic, I'm sure that Bridget will be impressed by the beautiful cake.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the carnival and weekend John.
