Bad Dog

The attack was photographed

It's a testament to any small community when news gets around like wildfire.
This is , of course, helped by social media , and in Trelawnyd's case, it's own on line discussion board.
Towards the later evening of the carnival the affable Despot Jason was Savaged by a dog which was on one of those extendable leads.
The dog meant business and several small children were in the potential line of fire.
It was " lucky" therefore that Jason bore the brunt of the attack.
The injury to his hand is a serious one, I've seen it so I know And he's presently in England awaiting skin grafts.
The police have been involved.
Jason and his family are popular in the village.
You don't often know just how much until something happens like this
Going Gently and everyone here, sends their love and best wishes

  2. Terrible. All good wishes to Jason, we feel almost as if we know him as he's frequently mentioned here.

  3. I bloody hate those extendable leads. My dog has been attacked several times by dogs on one, the owners have absolutely no control over their pet.

I sincerely hope that Jason makes a full and speedy recovery.

Extendable leashes should be outlawed, IMO. Did you know that the package warns of possible amputation should the leash get wrapped around your finger? Carol (Philadelphia)

  5. Nasty. Please tell Jason that your readership wish him well. (Why affable despot?)

  6. We always had extendable leashes for our dogs but there is a time and place that the leash can be extended and that's not at a carnival with lots of people. It's not the fault of the leash it's the the owner not having control. Best wishes to Jason and I hope there is no permanent damage.

Oh, goodness. I'm so sorry Affable Despot Jason was injured and I wish him well with the surgery and recovery he'll need. Am glad, though, that the children weren't hurt.

There are some places some dogs should go and that leash was certainly a wrong choice. The owners should have had better control and perhaps that dog is too excitable to be in crowds. They should have known better.

    Hugs!

  19. I'm getting fed up with dogs now. I once thought of getting one but could not think of a good enough reason. If they attack people then just kill them. Never mind if they are good with children normally.

    1. And after they have been put down, fine the owners a lot of money. That would sort out the right people to own dogs.

      Delete
    2. I totally agree... now I am hearing the dog was not on a lead

      Delete
    3. Sorry, but that's a bit harsh. In my experience, it's usually the owners that are at fault for not controlling their dog, or putting a highly reactive dog in bad situation.

      Delete
    4. The owners should be punished. If you want a dog, train it and Always keep it close when around children, no matter how sweet and friendly.
The idiots that own the dog are at fault so the child and poor dog suffer, shameful.

      Delete
    5. Of course it's the owner's fault but in many cases like these the damage has already been done to the dog and it's very unpredictablility precludes it from being safe in public

      Delete
  20. OMGoodness. What a thing to happen. Do we have any idea why the dog suddenly attacked like that? All good wishes to Jason.

  21. Why the owner thought it would be acceptable to bring such a dog to a public event.... We had a rescue dog that stayed at home 24/7 as we could never trust her, actually we could trust her-- to be aggressive! She bit the delivery man after he had been told to leave her be. She had all her needed shots and he told his employer and doctor he had asked for it. She even gave us hard nips when she was having too much fun. Poor thing was pretty abused. She died peacefully by my side and I bawled like a baby despite the challenges of being her support human.

  24. I do hope Jason is better!!
People forget that some dogs can be set off by the slightest things. Especially if they have not been trained well and even then it can be tricky. Proper leashes and, if needed, muzzles, when out in public is all for the greater good.

Please let us know if a Go Fund Me of something similar needs to be set up especially if he has to be out of work to support his family while recuperating. I am sure there are some on your site that would contribute.

Village? Not village? Larger than what I think of as a village when someone can have a dog like that and it not already be untrusted, unless it was a visitor to the village. Speedy recovery to the Affable.

  65. I would take a bet this is not the first time this has happened with this dog. This is why it is always so important to file a police report (or in the USA a report with the Animal Control) to let people know. Our dog of 13 years was killed by another dog and believe me it was a learning experience for us.

  77. What breed of dog bit poor Jason? The photo is a little grainy - looks like a mastiff type. I had a frightening encounter walking my dog at Amlwch recently with a woman with two mastiffs who could barely control them. The one dog was very threatening. I think both myself and my old dog would have been mincemeat had it broken free. Unless you're in the military or security services I do not understand why people would want such an animal - and especially as a pet! Hope Jason's hand heals swiftly with no complications.

  78. Wishing him the easing of pain and a good recovery. I love dogs, but am infuriated by owners who don’t monitor their behavior and location. Those long leads are in the control of the dog owner... or should be. Wishing the Despot well.
