Take A Seat Mr Gray

A morning in the hospital what fun!
I've had a bath and am wearing clean undercrackers
I'm sat alone in the small waiting room
I have just had to change my next Of Kin on all of the forms which
shamed me somewhat
Hopefully, I can be picked up at lunchtime
hey Ho

when was the last time YOU were in hospital?

  7. I am going with my Mum next week as she is having a bowel endoscopy. It may take her up to 4 hours to come around enough to go home afterwards, so I am taking a good book with me, and hoping for a sunny day to sit in the Hospital grounds. I am hoping it is her poor diet of mainly white toast and coffee with 3 sugars in, that have caused her problems...Hope your cystoscopy isn't too bad.

  8. Never been in hospital for a stay but last time as an out-patient was 3 years ago when I had a strange, seemingly unstoppable nose-bleed. Had to wait 3 hrs 40 mins to be seen, by which time it had duly clogged up of course.

No shame at all in changing your next of kin. It might have been a good idea originally to make your next of kin your sister, as I guess you have now done. But, "what is love, what is love, baby don't hurt me, no more".

  15. Last Sept. in Utah whilst visiting friends on their 'most beautiful farm in the world'.
Imagine, waking in agony at 3 AM with what I knew was another kidney stone. They drove me by pickup truck to a tiny farming town which had an incredible little hospital. I was one of just two ER patients and received the very best medical care I've ever had -charming, funny doctor, two sweet nurses, and a technician. The MRI went electronically to Salt Lake City, results came back, I was treated like the Queen, and driven back to the farm a few hours later, pain-free and so thankful. Later, freshly laid soft boiled eggs and crunchy toast helped in recovery as I looked across the pond toward the mountains in the distance. Have to admit, it was better than two similar kidney stone episodes here at home!
Before I left a helicopter flew in and took the other patient to Salt Lake City - hope she made it OK.
Be well dear John - hope you were spoiled at your hospital - I'm sure you cracked them up with your sense of humor.

  16. I hope you don't have to spend very much time in the hospital as a patient.

I was in the hospital about a year ago for total knee replacement surgery. Will be going in for knee replacement surgery on my other knee in July. It is scary to think about doing this second knee, but it must be done, my knee is hurting more each day. The knee that has already had surgery is doing fine.

    1. For my second knee replacement the surgeon gave me a pain block inthe femerol (?) nerve. It made a big difference in the amount of pain I felt when they got me out of bed the next day.

  19. The last two times I emerged from hospital (both ops a few weeks apart) I also emerged happy, happy, happy. Oh so grateful. Only upstaged by my hospital stay a couple of decades earlier having given birth to the Angel.

People tend to poo poo the op itself (because it has largely good outcome) but never will you be more anxious when already looking at guide dogs for the blind in horror of the ultimate. I had been shortsighted from an early age (I hope only literally speaking, but fear metaphorically too) and then, at an unusually youngish age fog started clouding my vision. When diagnosed with a cataract in one eye I, stoically and like a (wo)man, flinched but didn't crack. When they told me my second eye was the same I DID crack. And, involuntarily, shed a few tears or two. Out of my eyes(!).

Once I'd psyched myself up (only took me a few years) to the op(s) the day after was wonderful. I can't tell you, John, the happiness I felt and still do. Like a child walking around in wonderment at all I could see, clarly - without glasses, without contact lenses, without fog. I asked to see my surgeon after the second op, an audience which was graciously granted. I hugged her with gratitude. She took my happiness in her stride.

Hope all is well up your most delicate parts (if indeed you did manage to rebook your birthday's appointment).

    U

  20. Last time I was in the hospital was last August, for my second brain surgery. It's not for a malignancy, and I'm fine for now although I may require future brain surgeries. For me, it wasn't a hard decision at all. It was either taking that chance or living a much constricted life. It's never fun to be in the hospital. You certainly feel vulnerable. Having to change your next-of-kin on all that paperwork must have made you feel even more vulnerable.

Get in to OR, Spinal block, doctor starts, yells OH MY GOD...delivers my daughter Sarah, she was 10 pounds 7 ounces. My husband and I are a couple of hobbits...no gestational diabetes... She was gorgeous. We nicknamed her Luxury Baby in the nursery because all of the other babies were compact loaves, and here she comes a lovely little chunk . Well 6 years later, Luxury girl developed type 1 diabetes and hashimoto's disease. At 22 she is a lovely person , in college and in good diabetes control
Hope you are feeling better soon John. Take care.

  27. Yesterday - but just for a blood test. I found out that half past two in the afternoon is a good time to go. There were spaces in the car park, and only five people ahead of me in the queue with three phlebotomists working. In and out in a flash, and only a tiny bruise to show for it! Thinking of you today - I hope they give you a cup of tea afterwards. X

2012 I had a hysterectomy, I came out of hospital the day before the Olympic Flame was due to come through our town. I really wanted to go and watch but physically could not. Eighteen months before that I had an appendix abscess. Three years before that I spent a week in hospital in Palma Dr Mallorca with food poisoning being taken ill on a cruise, cause fast food ashore. Think that must have been my 3 times unlucky as fingers crossed have been ok since. Hope you are ok John.

  32. What counts? I'm in the hospital every tree months getting blood work done. 2011 and 2012 outpatient cataract replacement surgery. According to my 12 year old ophthalmologist, I was yelling "It's alive!" as they wheeled me in. Good drugs. 2007, taken to the e.r. because Balder Half thought I was having a heart attack. Turns out my glucose levels were through the roof. Kept me for three days without a bath of any kind. Made friends with the flies before I left.

Last summer after I went to get up from a kneeling position and my foot locked so I could not put it down flat on the floor. Quick visit to the small injuries unit at our local hospital. Nobody else waiting. It took longer to do the check-in questions than to get in to be seen, examined and back out again! Total thing, including a five mile journey each way, was under half an hour. Amazing!

  55. Last year was wild. No admissions, but I tripped on a tree root. At the ER everybody, including me, was sure I'd broken it, but it turned out to be a massive hematoma that took 6 solid months to heal. Later in the year, I had a bronchoscopy and the doctor did a lung lavage or lung washing. (I always imagine them squirting in a bit of water and some Dawn and giving everything a good shake.) They found some interesting bugs and a fungus called psittacosis. It's usually associated with birds. Which is weird because while I used to work with wild birds, I've not handled them, wild or domestic, in the better part of a decade.

  68. Last time I was kept in was my suspected mini stroke 4 years ago. Lifelong asthma has hardwired my body to make rapid recoveries, so after 8 hours in A&E trying to work out what was wrong, I had a CAT scan (horrible) which was expected to show the anomaly but was clear. So to be on the safe side, I was put on the intensive stroke care ward & pumped full of anti-emetic jabs (but not quite in time), muttering to anyone who could hear "no more needles!"
By morning I was fine, but had to go through post trauma protocols at breakfast (involving swallowing something labelled yoghurt) to tick the boxes before I could be let out. Partner arrived with change of clothes for me & some decent tea bags, then we sat & watched peregrine falcons hunt over the rooftops of Bloomsbury while we all waited for the IT system to be fixed & my discharge form to be printed. Working for the same trust as where I was incarcerated, was not in the least surprised that I ended up having full board before being sent on my way.
And now I have the prospect in the next few months of having the remaining part of a broken tooth removed under sedation, or general if it gets tricky. And with any luck, whatever is wrong with my knee will get fixed before the year is out.
    Oh joy.

An item of underwear, believed to be a thong got stuck in the dryer and caused a small fire. I work nights, so was braless and chasing three dumb dogs around the front yard. Got two into the car with me (Extremely crazy bassett and a Scottie) while the old man Golden pooped up the street in the neighbor's bushes. Must have been a slow day on the fire circuit, because every department for 50 miles showed up. A rescue tech looked at me and took my BP. Next thing I knew, we were screeching down the road doing 80 mph. Kids got off the school bus that afternoon and the front door was wide open with the offending dryer in the front yard. DH was out of town on business, so they didn't spring me till that night.
