I've just been told off by a Polish Amazon delivery driver
I saw him as he banged on the front door at lunchtime and thinking he was just selling something I let the dogs barked their heads off as I listened to Meera Syal in the BBC radio. 4 podcast of A Small Town Murder in the kitchen.
The driver banged a few times at the front door then came to the lane kitchen window where after seeing me casually sipping my tea he gestured angrily that I come to the kitchen wall.
" You are very rude ignoring me !" he remonstrated " I have a package for you!"
And I apologised somewhat red faced
Good for him, I thought....I was being a bit of a knob hiding away
The package was a gift from Nu. It was a book she had been reading that she thought as would like , the story of the columnist Melanie Reid who had suffered a devastating spinal cord injury after falling from a horse in 2010. I shall start it this afternoon.
It's blustery today and cold . Already I've defrosted the freezer and spring cleaned the kitchen. ( guilt spurring me on after yesterday's pointless hangover) and walked the dogs twice. Mary and I met up with policewoman Jo and her three greyhound bitches. ( Three dogs but only eleven legs ) Mrs Trellis caught up with us with Blue in tow . I noted she had her more tight fitting bobble hat on against the gales. It made her eyes squint like Micky Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's
Trendy Carol ( in a very nice NorthFace jacket and ski pants ) waved as she went last but the rest of the village seemed deserted due to the bad weather.
Only dog walkers like us are silly enough to be out.

Mary watching the blustery weather
He probably only had a 30 second window to deliver your package. They only get about 30p per drop.
ReplyDeleteI realised that....on a Sunday too
DeleteDo they normally deliver on Sundays? You must be very special!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I initially ignored him
DeleteNo quiet country lanes any more on a Sunday. Deliveries are 7 days a week.
DeleteThree dogs, eleven legs. Never looked at that way, but now I realize I have only 39 cat legs in the herd.
ReplyDeleteOne of jo's greyhounds had a leg amputated
DeleteHe knocked? My Amazon deliveries are always just dropped off in front of my door or in the bushes next to it. Sometimes they take a picture. I'm usually home and nobody knocks! My dogs' barking let me know that someone's been there.
ReplyDeleteSeveral times
DeleteI have read excerpts from her book - I really admire the way she has dealt with her paralysis. Shall be interested to see what you think to it John.
ReplyDeleteDidn't realise that about Amazon drivers being paid by deliveries.
I hope this is nowhere near you.. sounds awful
ReplyDeletehttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-47508328
That's more South Wales...Trelawnyd lies in The north East of the country...xxx thank you for worrying
DeleteYeah, it's not a very nice day out, even here. Super windy! I love your description of Mrs. Trellis in her bobble hat. I guess delivery men must have to put up with a lot.
ReplyDeleteShe did make me smile...all she needed was thick bottomed glasses to complete the outfit
DeleteMy Amazon packages are simply left at the front door and they don't knock. If they don't see you, do they leave the package? I've never seen an Amazon truck, they use other carriers here. My dog Bounce and I go out twice a day, rain or shine. He looks cute in his raincoat.
ReplyDeleteWe had the 'God squad' this morning. I had gone in the bath so Tony had to answer the door in his dressing gown... I usually make them a cup of tea and have a natter. They insist on trying to convert me bless em'.
ReplyDeleteYea, he was rude. He could have just left the book. No guilt here just laziness.
ReplyDeleteI like a woman in a tight bobble hat but may I ask what kind of bobble did the ever sophisticated Mrs Trellis have on top?
ReplyDeleteCream Pom Pom
Deletewe can all be arseholes sometimes.
ReplyDeleteA man's home is his castle and you choose when to let down the drawbridge. You probably didn't make too much of a dent in his day, par for the course. We have roofers at the moment, the dogs are turning themselves inside out. Fortunately the roofer likes dogs.
ReplyDeleteWinnie heaven..man up a ladder
DeleteI hope we all get decent weather, sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of Mary.
ReplyDeleteThe Sunday Times gave the book a very good review last week. Very tragic and sad. Love Mary's photo x
ReplyDeleteShe went to one of the only 11 spinal units in the uk....I could have nursed her
DeleteI'm afraid it's worse in rural areas - the number of delivery drops expected don't really take account of long distances or poor roads. Most couriers who deliver here have had to drive 50 miles from their depot before they even make their first drops. It makes for very long days. I didn't realise that they work Sundays though.
ReplyDeleteSobering eh? Just to earn a crust
DeleteOur delivery folks seem to ring the doorbell or do nothing more than leave the package silently and it's up to us to discover something is on the porch. Wonder if your delivery guy was already grumpy?
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of Mary and I also love window seats.
Hugs!
I think tom was right, low pay on a deadline AND on a Sunday
DeleteI wore shorts and a sweatshirt today for coffee on the beach. It was a blustery 14C this morning! So, "Polish Amazon" delivers in Wales?
ReplyDeleteU bugger
DeleteNot so much "rude" as plain inconsiderate of you.
ReplyDeleteU
Oh how boring are you?
DeleteUgggh
DeleteGoodness, these wimps who won't go out if it's a bit blustery. I go for a walk every day, whatever the weather, unless it's actually pelting down.
ReplyDeleteIt's been rough today..

ReplyDeleteI thought that was YOU with Mary, made up a day bed in the window seat, then l blew the pic up and realised it was a tan coloured cushion with a red and white one underneath, not your head wearing an old Xmas jumper.Dozy mare!
ReplyDeleteTess xx
It's Mary's favourite place...she watches her small world from up there
DeleteDog walkers are a hardy bunch!
ReplyDeletemary has a nice perch there.
ReplyDeleteThat's an adorable picture of your dog by the window. My amazon delivery guy never knocks...he just leaves the package on the porch. Hope you weather gets better...
ReplyDeleteWe had a blustery day, but with 3 more inches of snow. It was painful walking the dog. I’m envious of the green grass out your window.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of Mary looking outside is a beautiful one.... frame it! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are bunkered down inside with the air con working overtime here in Brisbane. Outside it's 37 degrees !

ReplyDeleteLovely photo of Mary she has the right idea
ReplyDeleteTwo things;) Melanie Reid writes an article which appears in the Saturday Times Supplement on living as a paraplegic, she writes with insight and courage, someone to be admired greatly.
ReplyDeleteThe other, those delivery men work hard, just look at their 'track' records, they deserve our thanks and humility.....
Thelma she was more disabled than a paraplegic she was tetraplegic..
DeleteAnd I agree the delivery guys deserve better x
If I'm going out but expecting a parcel delivery, I tape a note on the inside window of the front door to please leave on the doorstep. The puppy has got into the habit of ripping the note off ! If I tape it to the outside, the wind and rain gets it.
ReplyDeleteIt's your choice as to whether you answer your door or not..HE was the rude one. All he had to do was drop off the damn package!
ReplyDeleteThat was super nice of her! Receiving a book is always a treat.
ReplyDeleteAnd here amazon just leaves the package out at your doorstep if it's too big for the mailbox. With the winds we've had I wonder how those have fared.
And Mary looks so comfy looking out...
Happy reading!
XOXO
A dog named Mary. I don't know why, but that cracks me up. My friend's cat's name is Doug, and that, too, pleases me. -Kate
