A Face Like A Dried Teabag

Fantastic

The words  me and affable despot and international concert pianist don't automatically go together in my world but tonight Jason and I went to see Clair Hammond a professional tickler of the old ivories in concert at St Mary's creative space in Chester.
The concert was part of the Chester Music Society 's repitoire and It could be said that we were the youngest and most scruffy patrons there.
We had a cracking time.
Not only did we enjoy The flight of the bumble bee and various other lesser know pieces from Debussey and Rachmaninov- we revelled  in the fact that Jason was sat to a guy who was the spit of Grayson Perry and who had the best pair of fishnet tighted legs since Liza Minnelli was a girl.

Everyone including Mz Perry was incredibly serious and rather somber which was unfortunate as the pianist deserved a rather more rapturous applause than she received
That's where Jason's phrase " a face like a dried teabag" came from.
We giggled like schoolboys, but only in the car on the way home.
And .......All the way home.

  1. Wait- Jason was sitting next to a guy wearing fishnet stockings?
I need more description. Was a skirt involved?

    1. Yes a skirt was involved and a rather nasty yellow handbag

    2. Oh my. Well. I'm sure the result was simply fabulous. Or, maybe not.

  2. Fishnet stockings are not good in the winter. One might get a chill.

  4. I do love seeing a nice pair of fishnet stockings. I don't care who's wearing them!

  5. Fishnet stockings and a yellow handbag spell a very special kind of commitment to me. Especially during a piano concert. I bet there’s a whole story behind that! 😆😄

  6. I clicked on this thinking "teabag" would suggest something different altogether. Sorry, it's true.

  7. I'm going to see Beethoven's 7th symphony performed at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester next week ( and very much looking forward to it)never seen a man in fishnet tights at a classical music performance though, I wonder if that will change?

I have to agree that fishnets aren't usual winter garb because of the chill factor. I've lived in Chicago so can testify to that.

Sometimes it's kinder to laugh in the privacy of the car ...

    Hugs!

  10. I think the phrase might have originated in Belfast. There are plenty of faces like dried teabags in this neighbourhood. Smiling seems to have gone out of fashion.

  11. Ha ha ! I'm going to use that one !
I've realised that my Boss adopts my phrases, she now uses, " That went down like a lead balloon" which I nicked from mu husband.

  16. I'm always surprised when I see a photo of the Affable Despot. He looks so much more affable than despotic.

I was surprised how young Jason is--somehow I'd pictured him world weary in his fifties. Re the fishnet - I admire anyone wearing fishnet -if you snag them that would be it. Jean/winnipeg

  21. I guess I am the only person who read this and thought “awww bless her heart, she dressed up in her finest to go to a concert and hear beautiful music. She gave the occasion respect by dressing up rather than wearing jeans .
My husband and I had yearly subscriptions to concerts in NYC at Lincoln Center and in a city like that you will see all sorts dressed in all ways but everyone had the music in common, not what they were wearing.

  22. Such a wonderful evening, and the two of you are living proof fun is what you make of it. Was the adjacent seating to fishnet stockings, and surely a short skirt, just the luck of the draw, or did you two spot the yellow handbag and head straight for it?
