Just now, she is sitting my my side as I splutter my way through a lem sip and a packet of tissues, and will no doubt follow me to bed when I go up in an effort to shake this cold I am suffering from.
She's a giant emotional sponge is Winnie.
That's one of her strengths.
And one of her weaknesses.
I'm feeling sorry for myself today as my cold is making me headachey and muzzy.
Being alone with man flu.....made me envious of a gay couple I followed as they were doing their good natured shop around Sainsbury's this morning.
My basket of cold meds, tissues, small bottle of milk and cat food made me feel like a right sad sack.
I miss a cool hand on a hot forehead and a gift of a cup of hot lemon
I have to go into work tonight and tomorrow too..
No work
No pay.

They are sensitive creatures, and we are sure that Winnie must feel the loss of William around the cottage.
ReplyDeleteHope your bugs leave you soon. The last few colds I have had have lingered for some time. At the sniffly stage I have found a codral or similar was good at least at easing the runny nose stage.

I was weeping over nonsense the other day while sitting on the sofa and that ancient old cat climbed up to be close enough to put his head on my shoulder and purr loudly in my ear.
His version of “there there it will be alright “.
There is something very comforting about a cat music. I miss it.

They each cannot be more different from each other but the one thing they all share is that ¨cattiness" ...I fell asleep the other day while watching something boring on tv and having an old cat giving himself a bath .. while sitting on my stomach ..I think I might have even purred.

Look on the bright side, please. I also have the dreaded cold and feel like you but I have also lost my senses of taste and smell and have managed to lost five pounds so everything has at least one up. Take care, and one day all this will seem like another lifetime, you have a lot to give and you will find someone to give it to. Meanwhile love your doggies and cat and wait for luck to change. I don't know if they visit regulary but those 2 local girls who helped with the bathing recently could be the tonic she needs in she shape of a Christmas visit maybe?
Or could you just wear a boiler suit, carry a spanner, whistle and mutter stuff about 2-be-4's whilst shouting out '2 sugars in mine luv'

It may take a while, maybe a long while, but things will start to look up.
ReplyDeleteWhen I discovered my ex husbands extra activities, I ended up getting divorced, moved house, had to change jobs, my mom had a major stroke, the dog ran away - I did get him back - I had a break down, was burgled and had my bank accounts hacked. The list went on and on over about twelve months.
I almost turned to drink, but eventually I started to see some light at the end of the tunnel. It was a truly horrendous time, I survived and so will you. You seem strong enough.
Must be the nurse in us. lol
Winnie's had a hard couple of months,with the stroke,losing William,concern for Mary,and for you. Hopefully she will sleep most of the time while you're at work. You've had your own troubles for several months. Sweet Lord, working while feeling sick is an awful thing to have to do. I understand going in while sick because of needing the money,I just wish you didn't have to. Rest well when you can,I hope your shift(s)won't be too difficult. - Mary xxoo

ReplyDeleteIt's going to sound trite, but it'll do you good being at work overnight. It will help take your mind off how awful you feel and give you different folk to talk to! Easy for me to say when I'll be snuggled up fast asleep, but you know what I mean!

Winnie has lost one of her pack (well, two recently really). Dogs are very sensitive creatures, especially the more affectionate ones. Take good care of yourself....one day, I know someone wonderful will too x
ReplyDeleteYou get a lot of colds John. Take care of yourself. Our cat was put to sleep this time last year. Amazingly his sister hasn't batted an eyelid and they were close. Our other younger cat was traumatised. Take care now. Xx

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the miserable cold you're afflicted with. Do they sell There-flu in the UK? The kind we like is a powder that is mixed with hot water, add a tad of sugar, and it's a medicinal wonder. You actually feel like you're going to live about an hour later.

That was my husbands remedy except his “medicine “of choice was vodka.
DeleteA shot of that and into bed with warm flannel pajamas and blankets and he would sometimes wrap soft cloth around his neck.
His parents were from Russia, they knew how to wrap up ,knock back a bit of vodka and sleep like a baby.
You're allowed to feel sorry for yourself John....don't sweat it (and glad to see you're comfy in the crocs....I might need an operation to have mine removed!)...Winnie says so much to you without using human words...love is love is love.....and although you are right with the no work no pay line I RETIRED TODAY!... I must be stupid as it is a daft thing to do just now..but you know it had to be done and I have done it and the new year will unravel in front of us and we will both deal with it.....sending hugs x
