A Depressed red headed Mermaid with no tits

I'm finding retail therapy incredibly therapeutic at the moment
It's called " nesting"
Tomorrow I've arranged for my 40£ trendy kitchen chair to be delivered and today I bought a rug for the front room ( dead cheap in TK MAX) ...it covers a particularly stubborn vomit stain ( Albert's andnot mine ) and makes the living room look cosy and clean
When I bought the rug I noticed this delightfully flat chested and miserable mermaid Christmas tree decoration hanging near the tills and bought it on impulse .
The teenage till Girl eyed me suspiciously
" She's rather attractive !" I told her playfully
" If you say so!" was the curt reply
I did have my own sheep's wool beanie on so I did look a bit like a pervert , so I forgave her

Before you make a value judgement the mermaid is for one of Jason the affable despot's girls ..I always buy them each a Christmas decoration every year....another of my Yuletide traditions!
I'm catching up with him tonight..we are off to Chester to see a live comedy performance at the Storyhouse ...he's been a good friend recently.
I've just learned that I'm not working on the 18th which is the night of our choir's concert...I'll try to get a few people there to record the event for blog land.....

Ps the Village Christmas Market takes place tomorrow

  1. Great ornament - her hair kind of reminds me of those troll dolls. Sounds like you're getting into the Christmas spirit - it's hard here in Arizona where people decorate the cactus.

  2. I would have bought that mermaid in a redhot second. She is lovely in her own truculent way.

  3. Could you not un-pick the mouth, and replace it with a smile? She does look a bit miserable. (I'm sure some kindly village lady will do this for you)

Cute, but a couple of red stitches will turn that flat expression into a smile. How thoughtful of you to buy an ornament for each of Jason's daughters! Perhaps you'll find the other needed ornament at the village Christmas market?

Hope the comedy performance tonight was a barrel of laughs.

Marvelous that you're off work the night of the choir concert!

    Hugs!

  6. Leave the sad mouth. It's better than a false smile.

  7. I'm admiring her fluorescent pink strapless bra with hair to match and her beautiful sequinned flipper. Definitely a mermaid with style so she can afford to have resting bitch face.

    Merry Christmas lucky lady.

  8. What a sad little face, almost a desperate " pick me pick me " and you did x

  9. I like the mermaid. Just my sort of decoration. I am envious of your trip to the theatre tonight. One man comic Christmas story sounds worth seeing. I just looked it up. I'm off to see a film, Shoplifters, should also be good. x

I googled the St. Kentigern mentioned on the village hall flyer, as I don’t Recollect seeing that name before. Mungo, yes; you learn something new every day (hopefully). MaggieB

    I'd have bought that mermaid.

  12. I love the mermaid with attitude! If she doesn't want to smile, good on her. It's good for girls to learn that they don't have to smile if they don't feel like it. She's adorable!

I wasn't going to bother with Christmas decorations this year as I will be away from home and spending the holiday split between my kids and their families. But this morning my son asked if he could stay for a couple of nights in mid December as he has business meetings in my part of the world. So of course the decorations will now be out in full force. He may be 46 but he's still my boy.

To me she looks frightened! Was she this way BEFORE a man in a homespun beanie carried her to checkout? Joyce

  21. Nesting is soothing.....enjoy building yours.
Some people just don't have a sense of humour, do they?
Happy you are NOT working the night of your concert. 'We' will have front and centre seats for it. Sing your lungs out!! (at least when you are supposed to that is)

  22. the poor little mermaid does look sad. guess she'd rather be in the water instead of hung up to dry.

  23. In Disney's version of "The Little Mermaid," as I recall it from watching with the grandkids, Ariel is upset because she's in love with a human and wants to have legs so she can join the people who live on land. Maybe there's another ornament of her after she gets her wish. It's a stretch, but it could work.

  24. Love the mermaid! Hopefully the girls will too.

  25. You inspire me.
I like the mermaid. Her straight mouth makes her look sad. You can change it a bit.

  26. I was thinking along the same lines as TexasTPTrash, above (that Ariel was sad for part of the movie). Besides, sometimes things speak to us and a different version would not. Being a crafter (often of felt ornaments) I like the way the sequins are used to represent scales on her tail. Also as a crafter I am forever wondering what will appeal to people. The answer is different things for different folks and you just have to create and put your stuff out there for people to find.

Glad you're getting out with the thoughtful Jason, and happy that you're off the night of the concert and we will hopefully get to see your choir in action.

  31. My first thought on seeing your mermaid was that she was desperate for a pee, fins crossed, anxious face...the kind of decoration I'd buy...I love her! Glad you enjoyed indulging in a little retail therapy for your home. It's good to make a few changes now and then.

  32. Sorry, but that mermaid isn't depressed... she's ugly.
