The View of the village this morning
I look like the wreck of the Hesperus in comparison.
Two fat lumps on a small sofa eh?
Thirty six hours after her stroke , Winnie seems to be improving slowly.
Her recuperation seems to be mirroring her recovery from pyrometra last year.
You may remember that the vet warned me that she would probably die on the operating table then...and 24 hours post op she was standing behind the vet's reception desk bumming crisps from the secretaries.
If dogs were human, they would save the NHS millions.
I'm tired today and I'm working a twelve hour shift tonight, so I'm off to bed shortly. This morning Mary and I walked up the Gop, which blew the cobwebs away, then we returned the carpet cleaner and paid the fuel bill. On the way home I bought Winnie a MacDonalds cheeseburger which she has just enjoyed whole
Hey ho
If she can enjoy a McDonalds then there's plenty of life in the old girl yet! We take dogs on knowing what the end will be like, and yet we still do it because they are creatures made of love (and slobber), and that's quite irresistible. I have my fingers crossed for her.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear about Winnie. And you --- You're having such a difficult year; I empathize with you and wish you luck and love from hereon.
ReplyDeleteI hope both of you have a good nap!
ReplyDeleteSending all sorts of good wishes to both you and the gorgeous Winnie!
ReplyDeleteShe's in good hands with you as her dad, take care of one another! X
My thoughts are with you John - and may sweet Ms. Winnie get to enjoy more sausages and McDonalds for a while longer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a loving home she and your other animals have - you are the best!
I don't understand. Instead of sleeping on the sofa with Winnie why didn't you just put her next to you on your bed?
ReplyDeleteShe wouldn't be able to walk up the stairs xx
DeleteGood news. Winnie might surprise you and be with you for longer than you think. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Winnie is slowly improving. If you sleep downstairs again have you got a single size mattress you could put downstairs? Comfier and a better sleep than squashing on the sofa.
ReplyDeleteI've been checking back for an update, glad to hear the good news.
ReplyDeleteYou and W, were made for each other, reciprocating support. You're both uppermost in our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news. Winnie will outlive us all!
ReplyDeleteCheers Peter
So touching John. You are the man Winnie deserves. Give her a big hug for me too please. Donna@Gather
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I did this morning was to check on you and Sweet Winnie. Being home is the best medicine.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip and badger
I live that dog. Well, I love all of them
ReplyDeleteAnd you always have time to blog to, your amazing John. Glad to hear she's improving a bit.
ReplyDeleteHope you manage to get a good sleep. Pleased to hear that Winnie is still with us. x
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news that Winnie is perking up a bit - at least enough to enjoy that burger. Wishing her as much recovery as is possible.
ReplyDeleteTake good care of yourself, too, and sleep well today. Perhaps put something in the slow cooker tonight so you come home after your shift to a cottage that smells lovely and a meal that is ready. Would that yummy fragrance drive the dogs nuts?
Hugs!
Keeping you both in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers are with you both....love that old girl!
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses to dear sweet Winnie. I'm glad she's perked up a bit.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that Winnie is bearing up and that she enjoyed her burger. Make sure that you too eat as well as rest.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSending love and hugs to you both
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about her John. She has become almost human to us all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. If Winnie's up for a MacDonald's cheeseburger, it sounds hopeful!
ReplyDeleteShe's a fine dog and you are both fortunate to have each other. It is so hard to be there for our pets (and other loved ones) as their mortality become apparent. I hope Winnie's final days are well into the future. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh, must have missed a post. Sorry to hear about Winnie, but also glad she enjoyed her cheeseburgers. Hope for the bestxxx
ReplyDeleteOoh Winnie. Don't worry us so. My heart was in my mouth as I was catching up with your blog John. Sending the hughest hugs to all the furries and to you and I hope that Winnie continues to fart sausages at you. xxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have each other, I'm so pleased she's a little brighter, gorgeous old gal. Try to get some rest x
ReplyDeleteBrilliant news, not you looking like the wreck of Hesperus, but Winnie's continuing improvement.
ReplyDeleteA bit of junk food will no doubt do her the world of good, although taking back the carpet cleaner might have been a bit premature if it whizzes through her system 😆😆😆
I think a good gauge of her health would be to hire a repair man of some sort to come around in full regalia and see what her interest level is.
ReplyDeleteMay the old girl come back from this incident with all of her appetites intact.
Cheeseburger for Winnie! So happy she is perking up. Our old, fat dachshund, Boober, is right now at the vet's getting a much-needed dental cleaning. We've been worried a bit about the anesthesia due to his age (12) and his corpulence. Hope to hear in about an hour that he's ready to be fetched and all went well. Old dog friends are such a comfort, aren't they. They have witnessed us at our best and worst, given us years of love and loyalty, and never asked for more than a cuddle and a cheeseburger from McDonald's. That, by the way, is The Boob's most favorite treat. Gone before we can get settled back into the car. I hope your shift tonight is without drama.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that Winnie is improving, bless her.xx
ReplyDeleteRemind me, how old is Winnie? Come on, old girl! If I can survive for now, so can you!
ReplyDeleteWe don't really know perhaps 11 which is ancient for a bulldog
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about Winnie! I'll keep reading to get the details. But I'm glad to hear she's still with us and you're getting some couch time with her.
ReplyDeleteif she ate a mc dog chow burger, she's gonna make it!
ReplyDeleteGood news and here's hoping for some good luck and joy to head your way. Big slobbery virtual kisses for Winnie. xx
ReplyDeleteThe view from the top is spectacular. The news about Winnie is even better. Have a safe, quiet shift. And a swift, hearty recovery for Winnie. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI guess loving her is all you can do. Anyway, she’s already proven to be the miracle dog.
ReplyDeleteWinnie is the most beautiful girl, has her animal friends and you to care for her. A swift recovery for dear Winnie.
ReplyDeleteLove Winnie xx
ReplyDeleteShe has Love, what more does a dog ask for, McDonald's and mini sausages aside ;) hugs to Winnie and her Fur family x
ReplyDeleteKnow we know why they call it the Bulldog Spirit. Come on Winnie, you can do it old gal xx
ReplyDeleteYou will be worrying about her while you're at work.
ReplyDeleteI am almost afraid to check the blog, but I prepared for the worst and I am so happy that she is scarfing down hamburgers!I remember sleeping downstairs on the sofa and then on the floor beside my beautiful old boy the night before he left us.Oh dear, i am crying again. Love is such heartache.
ReplyDeleteI slept on the floor beside our Bogart on his last few nights. Brought comfort to both of us I like to think. Miss him terribly but so glad he adopted us as family. And yes, love is such a heartache.
DeleteSorry for your loss, Cookiequeen.
DeleteLike Lori I was afraid to look. But look I did and I am so happy with the good news. I love that gorgeous diva! Pat
ReplyDeleteI agree with the earlier comment about the repairman--maybe one could come sit with her while you're at work. She seems to have the fighting spirit of Winston Churchill.
ReplyDeleteA cheeseburger? Oh well, give her what she really likes. To hell with NHS advice.
ReplyDeleteGood news John hope Winnie continues to thrive it's tough going hey things have got to get easier John.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Sending her my love.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of ward are you on, John? Are you enjoying work?
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm following winnies progress....
Love to you, Winnie and your entire crew.
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Barbara
Winnie is a survivor. Hang in there you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update. I hope you bought yourself a treat as well.
ReplyDeleteWinnie is stubborn.
ReplyDeleteOh Winnie. Oh John. Oh damn. It's so hard. I'm not a repairman in overalls but I like to think she'd want to kiss me.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you got to sleep with her and give her a cheeseburger. Good luck on your shift. I hope you got some rest!!
ReplyDeleteXO
MissFifi
I am keeping you and Winnie in my thoughts. There is nothing like a dog as a companion and I know this must be hard.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear! Hope your shift goes well. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteDear Winnie! May she continue to recover. And quickly, please Winnifred! Love to you and all the animals, John.
ReplyDeleteYou gave Winnie a McDonald's cheeseburger???!!! No wonder she's sick!
ReplyDeleteIt was good to read that Winnie had a better night. I hope each day is better for you both.
ReplyDeleteWinnie is a tough old girl. Hang in there, John, it will get better. Slow improvement is good. We will take it!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds promising of recovery that she enjoyed her cheeseburger. Still, I am so teary about her. I like how you wrote in the previous post she has a "valiant good nature" or words to that effect.
ReplyDeleteWinnie (and you of course) have all of us out here wrapped around you with love and support!!!
ReplyDeleteSending much love to you and Winnie, John. Yes, to love animals is to know we will lose them. I suppose that can be true of all living beings we love - and your Winnie knows she is well-loved.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well there. As well as possible, that is. It's a worry to leave an ill pet for a long shift. Take care of yourself as well as the furry friends.
