Mary spent Sunday night frightened and alone in the coal bunker
She had been obsessed with my log store all day and had watched it constantly through the cat flap ( probably looking for a mouse which had scuttled away to safety from Albert clutches ) and so some time during the night she had managed to squeeze herself though, finding herself trapped outside in the cold and in the coal
She went hysterical when she saw me at 9 am yesterday, the only way dogs can do when they reunite with their Alpha owners and she hasn't left my side since .
(The vigil includes two sit down toilet stops and a bath)
I snapped these photos just now as I complete paperwork at the kitchen table.
She's not even an arm's length away and fell asleep sat up after watching me so carefully.

So sweet. Bless her.
ReplyDeleteOh bless her sweet heart .. I think I would just sit there with her, with my arms around her all day .. kiss her for me please :)
ReplyDeleteShe will be like that for a while, never more than 2 steps away. I hope she didnt hurt herself
ReplyDeleteBrilliant photo's. Such loyalty... deserves big hugs and kisses, alongside a few treats.
ReplyDeleteCarol
What an angel. That's what devotion looks like, even when it is sleeping.
ReplyDeleteOh My...I shake my head at her devotion.
ReplyDeleteOh poor baby!!! She will no doubt give in soon and sleep an entire day... the stress of it all!! I think the Alpha male needs to give his underling some extra lovin'... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteShe is such a ball of sweetness and light. Good girl! Pet her for me.
ReplyDeleteMy little weenie, Emmy has developed a few ocd scares. She is terrified now by lightning and thunder, fireworks, the door creaking by wind gusts. I hope she doesn't develop more.
ReplyDeleteAnony- I used to have the biggest best scariest German Shepherd ( if only everyone knew what a pussycat he really was) and the sound of thunder would send him dashing into the bathroom where he would hide behind the shower curtain until I told him it was safe to come out.
DeleteShe is probably picking up your vibes too John. Give her lots of extra love - good for both of you.
ReplyDeleteYou didn’t mention how you felt when she wasn’t where she belonged in the morning. You must have been beside yourself with panic, or was she barking.
ReplyDeletePoor little thing. xx
ReplyDeleteMary looks very big to get out through a cat flap. It is a wonder she didn't find herself squeezed half way in and half way out. Is she fully grown now?
ReplyDeleteYes, she hasn't done the cat flap thing for a year now so I suspect she was pretty prey driven
DeletePoor baby.
ReplyDeleteHow difficult, frightening and sad, for both of you. I hope you are free to keep her with you today for as long as she has the need to cling that closely to you.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew of a way to make the cat flap accessible to only Albert to suggest. Perhaps you or someone else has an idea that will prevent a possible repetition of her experience. My cats live only indoors because a heavily trafficked road is close to my home. They use a litter box day and night, I have no cat flap in any door, so I don't know what may help.
Hopefully, Mary will just know better than to do that again. My dogs both cornered a porcupine, and both had to have quills removed, yet both did it again. So I don't know if all dogs have the ability to remember that one specific action has painful consequences.
Aside from that, I hope you have a nice day, enjoy your adorable furry family, and whatever you do. -Mary
In the first photo you can see how upset she is, the ears back and the sad eyes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better also. That must have been a huge scare for you too.
They wrap themselves around are hearts don't they.
cheers, parsnip and badger
Through my divorce my frenchie is who kept me sane. Everyone else needed a piece of me. My strength (which didn't exist), my resources, my discernment, my comfort, my patience. My frenchie stayed with me, slept with me, made no comments when I cried or when I raged. In return, all I had to do was feed and water her.
ReplyDeleteMary sleeps with me too under my left armpit
DeleteAw poor pup. You must have been distraught for her. Lets hope she stays firmly inside next time.
ReplyDeleteHow could you feel sad or lonely when you have such love and devotion not an arm's length away. You are so lucky to have each other. Rejoice!
ReplyDeletesweet clean girl! a better companion you will never find.
ReplyDeleteShe was filthy yesterday
DeletePoor young pup! I'm glad she's ok (or will be). And, how are you?
ReplyDeleteMuch more awake today.....had a bean salad for my tea last night so am farting like the queen. Mary's hooter today
DeletePoor Mary. I suspect it is more than getting caught outside overnight. Animals are very connected to our schedules and habits and yours has suddenly changed. She is not used to you being gone overnight.
ReplyDeleteNo...I'm just grateful I put up a gate into the garden , if she had got into there she could have been lost totally
DeleteBless her furry little paws. I would feel the same if I'd been in the coal bunker all night but I wouldn't look so cute.
ReplyDeleteShe's had a bath
DeleteOh poor Mary. She looks like children and the elderly do when they nod off sitting up.
ReplyDeleteOn a different subject I can't find The walking Dead. I think I have missed the first one and can't find a repeat. Any ideas?
It's repeated on fox channel tonight
DeleteThat's great, thank you so much.
DeletePoor sleepy Mary. I hope she has recovered.
ReplyDeleteMary is such a sweetheart. She must of been so happy to be right next to you. These photos are just too wonderful. She must of had a good nights sleep after this. Thanks for the share. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWorld of Animals
How scary for sweet Mary and am glad you came to the rescue! She surely deserves lots of hugs and a warm place to nap. It's good you're not working tonight!
ReplyDeleteIs there a safe way you can block the cat door access or would that leave Albert up the proverbial watercourse without a means of locomotion?
She's obviously a brave girl to suffer your sweaty pit.
ReplyDeletePoor girl, one of my earlier dogs also got out of our cat flap when we were in work but the postman had left the gate open and she got run over on the road outside. Luckily my husband had just turned up as it happened and was able to take her to the vets but she still lost her front leg. She kept going for another 6 years after but could have been so much worse. Thank goodness at least she didn't get out of the garden. Love the photos x
ReplyDeletePoor Mary! Not a fun adventure for her. No wonder she's tired out today.
ReplyDeleteAwe poor Mary she must have been so scared I don't think she will do that again John bless you both.
ReplyDeleteHa ha - great set of photos. I like the way her eyes start to close.
ReplyDeletePoor girly xx
ReplyDeletePoor little mite.I hope she's recovered from her ordeal.
ReplyDeleteAww, poor girl.A cuddle is in order to comfort you both. X
ReplyDeleteShe looks so sweet as she gets sleepier and sleepier until she finally dozes. How scary that must have been for her when she realized that she couldn't get back inside. And now you know how dear you are to her.
ReplyDeletePoor dear . . .
ReplyDeleteMakes me smile . . .
She loves and feels safe with “papa John!”
Poor baby must have been very scared.
ReplyDeletePoor things (Mary and you, both). What I want to know is how you caught that last photo at just the critical moment! Good going on the photography. I hope Mary doesn't go for a repeat performance, ever.
ReplyDeleteCan you shut Mary in your bedroom when you are on night shift? Presumably she wouldn't be able to reach the cat flap then? Didn't she bark and wake the neighbours?
ReplyDeletePoor baby. A night in a coal bunker can do that.
ReplyDeletePoor girl.
